  1. Hi Kevo, the manual for the Acro Wot is on the Ripmax website and can be downloaded and viewed from there. All the info is in there including C of G and control throws etc. try copying this link and pasting it into your browsers address box. The aircraft is a fantastic flyer, hope you enjoy it. ... 2. Hi Guys, Just thought Id let you know that I have now fitted an on board glowplug unit on my Acrowot now so that I can get the tickover very low and reliable. This has reduced the landing speed so that it doesn`t want to keep on flying due to excessive thrust from the engine (SC52 four stroke / 12 x 6 prop). I had a couple of excellent flights today and am very pleased with the results. As long as the nose is kept up a bit and throttle at tickover it will settle nicely onto the runway. I have used a 2500 mah Cyclon sealed lead battery for the glowplug and mounted it as far forward as poss in the radio bay. This has also meant that I have been able to remove the lead that I had on the engine bearers as the battery has made the CG come out spot on, so it is useful weight instyead of dead weight. The plane doesn`t even seem to notice the weight of the battery and still floats and handles beautifully.

  4. Hi Chris, My Aceowot needed some lead too, but cant remember how much weight. I used an SC52 four stroke engine in mine. What I did was to put two longer bolts in the front engine mounts and tighten up fully. Then I used some offcuts of flat lead sheet which you just drill two holes in and slip over the bit of bolt that sticks out and secure with another nyloc nut on each bolt. That way the lead is as far forward as possible which means slightly less weight of lead is needed. The lead can be shaped to bend round the mount so that it fits snugly. I also used a 5 cell RX pack(6v) which I put under the tank right up against the inside of the firewall, which is makes it useful weight. By the way, mine also still nips along on tickover with a 6 inch pitch prop, so I might try a 5 or 4 inch pitch prop when I get round to getting one. Im trying to set up an on board glow at the moment to try and get the tickover as low as possible. One of my flights went deadstick recently and the plane comes in beautifully slow and perfect for landing, so it is definitely the thrust from the engine that is stopping it slowing down enough. 5. My subscription also expires on 30/11/13, but Ive just received an email stating that my subscription is about to expire shortly !! Still cannot access subscriber only content, is there a link anywhere on this site to message them ? I can access mags on my iphone but not on pc
  6. Yes there is a vast increase in subscription rates. Last year my digital subscription was £19.99. This year it has gone up to £36.00. Thats an increase of 80% !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guess I wont be renewing that then. Also the people who had a paper subscription no longer get the digital editions as well, you have to pay extra now. I am also getting probs with the website saying I cannot access subscriber only content, still trying to sort that one out.
  7. My Acrowot had maiden flight at the weekend. It flies beautifully on an SC 52 four stroke. it took off dead straight and only meeded one click of right aileron and two clicks of down to fly hands off. The 52 engine is plenty for the type of aerobatics that I fly i.e. nice gentle loops, rolls, stall turns and other smooth aero's. it doesnt have a fantastic vertical performance or prop hanging / mental performance, but if I wanted that then this wouldnt have been my choice of aircraft or engine. it flies fantastic though. Well pleased. Definitely worth every penny.
  8. That advert made me smile too. I reckon it`s a dead cert that it was written by Private Fraser. He`s probably got a hoard of gold coins just like on Dad`s Army too.
  9. Really like the in-cockpit view. Also like the underneath view with the uc operating. Fantastic model. The camera shots could easily be of the full size.
  10. re : wing bolts I`ve now replaced the dodgy wing bolts / captive nuts with 6mm ones and they are now much better. Feels like the wings would definitely stay on now. Apart from the above items and the iffy control rods, this kit is superb. Got it for £118 in TJD Models and am really pleased with the contents, absolutely everything you need apart from radio / engine. The model seems so much more sturdy than other ARTF`s that I have had and has been built with proper size balse and ply, not the ultra thin and bendy stuff that seems to prevail in so many other planes. I think it seems more like a ready made proper kit rather than a totally ARTF design. Plane is now ready for test flight, pity the weather isn`t.
  11. WARNING - check the metal aileron pushrods after you have bent them up to connect onto the servos. I bent one of mine and it just snapped in half, it seems that the metal is really quite brittle, which is not really ideal for a rod that is meant to be bent. I have reaplaced one of them with a different rod, but would advise just having a look perhaps with a magnifying glass to check there are no cracks on the bend. Another problem I have found is that the wing bolts and captive nuts are absolute rubbish. I only nipped them up when I wanted to check the c of g and one of them kept on turning ! I have no idea what thread they are, but I am going to knock them out and replace with normal 6mm captive nuts and wing bolts. Just be vigilant, as either of these faults could cause the loss of the aircraft and potentially endanger someone.
