Witterings started following Servo gone slow & stiff , Parallel charge board - one side not working , How do you mark your operator ID on planes? and 1 other

I'm using oen of the XT 30 parallel charge boards as per the link below, on one side of the board if I piug a 3s balance lead in it only shows a reading for 2 of the cells ... has anyone had similar? I was wondering if changinging the fuses would make any difference but as it's all teh way down one side I'm guessing it's nothing to do with them. Any thoughts or anyone experienced the same be interested to hear https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/167151283128?chn=ps&_ul=GB&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1PtXBNBAxRtmxOdHsNE3v8A36&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=167151283128&targetid=2425733423477&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9193972&poi=&campaignid=21697391927&mkgroupid=162558106770&rlsatarget=pla-2425733423477&abcId=10027104&merchantid=5068429208&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA-5a9BhCBARIsACwMkJ6EJmqMmyoH5RqDDy4DTRGxnQR3H-bG2NLKRleqz8hPtk4HxmqARNwaAj4rEALw_wcB

How do you mark your operator ID on planes?
Witterings replied to Witterings's topic in All Things Model Flying
If you'd seen my writing you'd know why 😅 on a slightly more serioues note, in case I ever decided to sell some which may happen in the near future and I don't think anybody else will want my spiders crawl all over them. I've never done it before in my life but I have now worked out how to print onto labels which I have 2 boxes of here from the days when I had an office and people used to post things, I downloaded a template that lays it out for you and typed into that and bingo. Pre posting this, I also didn't realise you could put them inside the canopy so will do that where I can and just stick them on the profile foamies. Cheers for eveyone's help, much appreciated !!! 👍 -
How do you mark your operator ID on planes?

Cheers for all the replies ... hadn't though about putting them inside so that's a few of them covered .... I am flying a few pofile foamies as well, not sure if my printer even prints labels and wouldn't have a clue how to if it does or if the labels I have would work or if you need special ones. Might have a look in the classifieds for £5 for 20 ... if I've done the ones with a canopy, that'd be enough for the foamies. Cheers everyone!! 👍 -
As per title .... I don't really want to permanently put my Operator ID on the plane and was thinking about Blenderm Tape and using a permanent marker but was wondering if that'd get rubbed off or using Masking Tape or similar. Interested to hear what others have done, maybe just a marker straight onto the plane and I'm overthinking it as I can't see I'll be selling any .... although that as crosed my mind recently.

Certainly I'm in a monitor very closely situation at the moment but it's only 1 model so far but will keep a very careful eye on it and also see if it does it with any of the others ... I may copy the "problem one" to another position, leave it a few days and see if it does it again. Some devices, even a computer has a small battery that remembers things like date / time and gives something like a TX just enough power to remember settings, is there one inside a TX do you know.
-
It's where the ESC was glued to the top of the wing so I'm not concerned about it being seen so maybe just best done as you say with the servo "firming" the area up. More general question for gluing servos on foamy's, if I'd just glued it round the edges it wouldn't have happened as a craft knife down the sides and I was able to free those areas up and would have been able to remove it with taking part of the wing with it. Is it best practice to just do the edges and not the bigger area that I glued to the underside of the wing, guess I did it looking for a more secure fit but maye it's not best in case one ever needs to come out.
-
I used to do this religiously but several years of not flying and I've got out of the habit which I need to get back into .... My TX, whilst I hadn't used it for ages seems to have a problem remembering settings and direction of control surfaces at the moment on some models which is a bit scary but even more reason for doing this.

I removed a servo from a foamy's wing but where it was glued in it's taken all the this layer of foam that's the top part of the wing with it leaving a servo size hole. I used a craft knife and as cleanly as I could managed to get the layer of foam off and glued back in but where the edges were rough / bits missing there are holes and you easily push it out with a finger. I was thinking of putting a piece of Carbon Tissue just bigger than the servo hole (as per link) on top of the wing and CA'ing it to give some reinforcement, unless anyone doesn't think that's a good idea or has any better ones? https://www.modelshopleeds.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?keywords=carbon fibre mat&sort=1a&products_id=18847

Yes, you're right, it was faster in one direction than the other. Because I've never had anything similar happen before despite thousands of flights (apart from a complete failure mid flight), I've never thought about a servo's components but I guess they must have a motor inside and unless the gears did get some glue or something in them, then it's probably the motor itself which is failing? Hopefully the new one should be here today and will fit that but may take the old one apart later anyway as I've never done it before.

Fitting tiny E / Circlips???
Witterings replied to Witterings's topic in General Electric Flight Chat
Just thought I'd give a quick update .... but a pair if these mini pliers from a shop in the village for £2.49 and used a Dremel and they work just fine for the once every couple of years I need them. Cheers to everyone for their suggestions!! -
I was checking the control surface movements on a model and noticed one aileron servo was much slower to respond than the other. Initially I thought maybe something was binding but on further investigation and disconnectin the pushrods realise it's the servo itself. I've ordered another anyway but what would most people do with it, it's a Hitec HS 65 MG and you can buy spare gears for them so am wondering whether to do that and keep a spare, it's 2/3 rds of the cost of a new on though. Just gererally is this typical behaviour of a servo starting to fail, I wonder if maybe some glue managed to get into it when building / fixing it to the plane but it was hot glue so not runny like thin CA so would have thought it unlikely. Just interested to hear people's general comments on what it may be and whether to try and repair with a new set of gears or not bother.

There are several variants .. do you happen to know which you've got, assuming you've got some and if they definitely do the tiny circlips, I#ve linked to a couple that I think are probably most likely to fit https://www.amazon.co.uk/Circlip-external-circlips-atramentized-plastic/dp/B0002YYM9O/ref=sr_1_5?adgrpid=50746393182&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Ysj2fWvu-OaxMhHUl9rnBS74JVgTeybaKMf5IydeutnkbEMfUBmIZmkE10wm9DLirusQv6o6TMNZteMB59nRJ8G66I9RdC2KSdMMiEGlqgnU79iQP5q-7kCrMd7_mRBlSO5FR58MaobFYt4tzL8bQlDXIc9EcjSk0hu9fSpAEp6WCU93wORhOjetgFmHVweG-T2hBRVAoF0xivH5mQ1X2_qudd4Zlm3EjHYVb-SJNRHyk29PtqHhbdn9O3aYHQez18-ctXxp6KVAM8iFAySNaaG1Ehrv274_wa2_rVlmTBq6sATSd6cvNxZ4FZOyXvLO3SnLE-3xrp8OE9-w_xgTOFs8YGBSrn6c-YlJFVN9Y-noVfnjjiRFPfUMD8SyPxDxnbWWkv_BU5o460g6E04dX0pnKpRjZimwtGMjsqkd_iLNLiupHJBfKzox6RdPLXMs.YEriog1wVNpJDGkcoVylbD-ikcmMrmjBeQ4C0zNZCL0&dib_tag=se&hvadid=606048061608&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9193972&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=3858839563335307039&hvtargid=kwd-317580954948&hydadcr=27290_2307934&keywords=knipex%2Bexternal%2Bcirclip%2Bpliers&mcid=bd247942d8d1349d836bb3eac47fd0e9&qid=1738243242&sr=8-5&th=1 These they call precision so I#m guessing are smaller although it infers 10mm circlips + https://www.zoro.co.uk/shop/tools-and-machining/circlip-and-automotive-pliers/49-21-series-precision-bent-circlip-pliers/f/P_TBGRPKPX4921A01?brand=Knipex&topProduct=ZT1286192P&sku=ZT1286190P -
Fitting tiny E / Circlips???
Witterings replied to Witterings's topic in General Electric Flight Chat
I've got both of those in the picture and ideally was trying the smaller circlip at the bottom, I tried something with a tapered shaft but there's a 2nd slot at the end you'd put it on, I thought I'd then be able to slightly open it further to slide it all the way down to the motor housing but no chance 🙂 I've ordered / returned 2 different types of pliers neither of which are small enough. Because I can't get the circlip on I've resorted to an e-clip and did manage to get it on the way you suggested, it's not nearly as secure as the circlip was on the slot I needed to slide it down from. -

I was thinking the same and was looking at some jewellry making tools as starting point as they sem to be smaller to allow for more delicate / precise work. Good advice on the see through bag as well as I've certainly lost a few 😄
