  1. The Sea Vixen took off from Bournemouth (Hurn) Airport yesterday (3/6/14) at about 2.55pm and headed due west towards Dorchester so you saw it just after I did in Bournemouth! I did notice the noise was not so great as it was in the past.

  2. I've had one of these for about 4 years and it flies very well, but as you say the approach must be set up carefully. It is not the U/C doors causing the drag it is definitely the props wind milling causing the drag as there is 3 either side moving slowly almost causing a solid disc of that size. take the doors off no change, put two blades on and it improves a lot not perfect but better, we've experimented at our club in this way and all now fly with doors on and with 3 blade props but have a fast tick over for approach. So your on the right route with giving it a bit of throttle on approach, have fun, Brian

  3. Thank you everyone who answered my original question I feel better now! Got it of my chest. As you say negotiate on a price of what's for sale according to condition etc, but delivery/pickup is down to the buyer to provide. Haggling is part of everyday life now, I accept that as fair game (couldn't do it once upon a time!) I have just updated two ads I had elsewhere and have put 'If you live a fair distance from Bournemouth don't ask for help with Petrol/diesel costs', we'll see if that does the trick!!

  4. Why is that lately every time I try to sell something on whatever site, this site, BMFA, Gumtree people expect me to give them a discount because they have to come a fair distance? If you buy from a retailer, 200 miles away these people never ask then. It is tough that something you want is 200 miles away the seller cannot be responsible for geographic location of the buyer. If this is taken to its logical end the buyer lives 1000 miles away you send it to them free of charge! I will drive a certain distance for something i want if it is further away I just do not have it, I would not consider asking for petrol/diesel money just to pick up something I want. I would on the other hand negotiate a price I think would be fair, for the condition , age etc of the article, but that is down to the seller to accept. Without being rude how do you tell these people geographic location does not come into the equation?

Thats good i got it of my chest!!!

  5. Hi there, yes I had a vibrating out runner in a boat. I ground away the heavy side until it ran sweet. U-Tube has many videos on how to balance an out runner. Just type in:- balancing an out runner. I also downloaded an app for my phone which measures vibration, that is useful as well. Hope this helps, Brian.

  6. Bought an UDI816a for g'son for Xmas it had a dry joint or something and wouldn't work correctly. explained the problem bearing in mind it was the day before Xmas eve, they were very sympathetic said they would send a replacement circuit board, which they did, and within 24hrs the UDI was mended and working correctly due to their good service. Plus of course the Royal Mail's quick delivery.

Thank you Ripmax may you all have happy Christmas and a prosperous 2014

  7. Hi saw this topic and thought I'd put my observations in. I am interested in buying a DJI quadcopter after flying the G.Childrens UDI. I have phoned 5 retailers from the web to get a package of a Gopro + Quad. Very interesting conversations with all of them, BUT only one asked my previous experience and said I needed Insurance. I pointed out I already fly RC models and had to have it anyway and he was quite happy to go ahead and give more info. I was impressed by his moral duty to point out this which I feel is V.Important. If as you say in the very first posting this is getting bigger and the uninitiated are coming into the sport it is important that we all have insurance before a disaster occurs. I am looking on the negative side, that I know, but we would all be affected should anything happen. Brian

  8. Hi I have built and flown one of these with V-tail and retracts. Flies very nicely must keep up speed on landing though. I fly with an AXI 282012, 3cells lipo, 3000MAh. When the wheels are up it looks very realistic. I used Hobby King retracts to keep price down, with no problems. The kit is up to E-Flite's usual high standard. I also used a separate battery for the retracts 4 cell NMH 1000MAh. Hope this helps, I would recommend this kit for the intermediate flyer, good luck.

  9. Hi, one draw back with cash is that the buyer arrives looks at the item and try's to bid down by say things like its not as described/he though how it should be/looks for damage or wear. Stick to your guns and send him home, he's got the journey not you! If on the other hand you agree to meet halfway your at a big a disavantage as he is so again be aware. It happens a lot with full size cars.

  10. Hi there I fear that this might be a short thread!! I went flying last Thursday and found a battery was not performing well. Brought it home checked it and found a cell had died on it, the battery was less than a month old. I e-mailed HK on Fri 9/8/13 and had a reply almost immediately to take photos of said battery being tested. Which i sent off Fri afternoon. Sunday received an email saying battery was U/S and did I wish a replacement or credit. Sent back straight away to say a replacement battery please and on Monday was told it was all in hand. This morning14/08/13 the Royal Mail delivered a new replacement battery. That is what I called good service and feel when this happens it deserves recognition, thank you Hobby King.

  11. hi Craig I think you'll find it is the propellers windmilling at zero throttle that cause the drag. I've flown mine now for three years and found out the hard way I always land with some throttle so that they just bite the air so as not to cause drag. I did try brake on the set up but it wouldn't work any better. My front centre door has been missing for a year or so and it makes no difference except in looks when retracted, hope this helps

  12. Hi all, on a slightly more serious note, when I have found the correct CofG, I place a small kitchen cabinet door buffer on the spot, they can be bought from B&Q for a sheet of 100 for about £2.00. If i've not made myself plain they are about 5mm dia half a sphere and are self adhesive. So all you have to do is place your fingers on the spot and job done!

  13. hi there, my son has one and yes the wiring is a bit of a mess to say the least. I built the Canadair first and he did the same as me and cut a fine groove in the underside of the wing and then pushed the wires into it and covered with self adhesive tape. I don't think he had a problem with engines but I do know like me he slung the spinners away. After all that they are both superb fliers, very stable and a 2200 3cell lipo lasts for about 12-15 minutes, they both take off from grass and land at a very slow speed. We've flown of off water as well and they are truly in their element there, they both have lots of presence. Hope you enjoy it. Brian ps we've have epoxyied the underside of them.

  14. Hi there , I have dealt with Westbourne Models since Noah built his ark! They are a one off the more helpful model shops I have dealt with, as they are very knowledgeable on all aspects of RC, but especially boats. Yes sometimes they are busy on the phone or net and there is only two full time and one part time there, so patience sometimes is the order of the day. They certainly would not recommend a Spitfire for a first time buyer just to get the sale, (and that means a lot to me) they would instead point you in the right direction and get you flying/boating. As far as delivery I live near them, so pick up, but whenever I have ordered something they havn't in stock they get right on to it and keep in touch with delivery/ cost etc.

    Hope this helps

  15. hi there, Yes i have built and flown one since April of this year. Mine has the retracts the wrong way around but this makes for great ground handling. It was one of the only planes that i flew and did aerobatics with it on its first flight, I had that much confidence in it!! I have an OS90surpass mkII in which it fits a treat, even if it overpowers it, I tend to fly it on quarter to half throttle to make it a scale speed. The landings with and without flaps are great just line it up use throttle to stretch the approach and keep the wings level and there are no problems. I set the C of G as the instructions. I was going to use electric retracts but oppted for the supplied mechanical ones because they are so smooth, I used a spectrum retract servo as you can set the throw. Looking at the kit I would think it came out of the Seagull factory as there are a few telltale signs. Aerial tube, number on parts, fuel tank all seagull trademarks. I would have no hesitation of recommending this plane to low wing experience pilot, second or third maybe. At the moment it is my prefered plane out of my airforce (23 planes). hope this helps.
