  1. Peter   Most interesting.  I am progressing on mine but am interstate with work a lot at the moment (just last week I was both in Darwin which is about as far north that you can go and in Melbourne which is about as far south) so have not had time to make any postings.  I've done both the wings now, ready to set up the washout wedges and get the top sheeting on.  From then on it should be down hill to preparation and covering.  I'm a bit of a luddite and still prefer a doped finish - will be using Sig Koverall on the open areas and tissue / dope on the sheeted areas.   Cheers
  2. Hi - back again.  I've been pretty busy with work - had to go up to Brisbane for a while so I haven't had time to make any posts on my Luciole's progress.  I got a fair bit done last weekend - elevator, rudder and the first wing almost ready fro the top sheeting.  I must say I am enjoying the build - it's very straightforward if a little different.  More photos in my Luciole album.   Rob from Sydney
  3. Ken Not sure you'd really want it - we had 42C here last Sunday   .  By general consensus we gave the flying a miss - everyone stayed home and cranked the aircon up .  Cheers, Rob
  4. Hi all. I've been browsing the website for quite some time after returning to modelling about 3 yrs ago after a 35 yr absence.  I enjoy building as well as flying - only kit builds so far, a Topflight Elder (below) and have just finished a 1970s Sig 72" J3 Cub kit. Being between models, I decided on a whim last week to build Peter Miller's Luciole from last months magazine free plan .  I decided to try dip my toe in the forums and post details of my efforts so far (see the Luciole thread) and as the results were positive will continue to post photos of my build. Once the Luciole is finished I intend building the Tony Nijhuis Hurricane. I have gathered together plans, balsa, engine (Saito 82) and retracts so am ready to go - thought the stringer turtle deck on the Luciole would be good practice for the Hurricane fuselage. I belong to the Werrington Park Model Aero Club west of Sydney and mange our website. Hope the above is of interest Rob, Sydney Aust.
  5. Good to hear from you Peter.  I was given the Wankel by my father about 5 or 6 years ago and it has been waiting for a home ever since - runs like a dream.  Probably not appropriate but I wanted to build the Luciole and I don't have anything else.   It weighs pretty much the same as an old OS19 I have (no longer runs) so I thoght I would get away with it - might go without cowling or spinner just to show it off and save a bit of weight there.  My flying instructor always used to say "you don't have to put the throttle to the wall".   This is my first dabble in forums - all new to me.  Is it appropriate to keep posting build photos here or should I start a new topic?   Rgds, Rob   BTW that's my back porch, not the workshop.  You wouldn't want to see that!!
  6. Hi Peter, I've just completed a 72" Sig Cub and decided on a whim to build a Luciole - my first plan built model.  Was planning to start on the Tony Nijhuis Hurricane (I have all the hardware but was planning on doing my own cutting) but thought with the stringers the Luciole would be good practice. It's coming along very quickly - the plans are very easy to follow, thanks for your efforts Rgds, Rob - Sydney
