All things SAS wildthing
Oliver Beams replied to David Martin 2's topic in Gliders and Gliding - General Discussion
When I tried to discus launch my Zaggi it was just because me and a friend of mine were bored and wanted to see if it was possible. Of course as you say Timbo under normal circumstances there is no point as these type of models are not particularly suited to light conditions anyway. Ollie -
All things SAS wildthing

On the couple of occasions that I have tried to discus launch my zaggi I have had much the same problem. I think that it may be due to the characteristic of a flying wing and the fact that there is no tail plane to stabilise it. Ollie -
DIY hi-start

Thanks Pete and all others for your help, it sounds as though I will have to use surgical tubing after all. -

I have a Ripmax Stargazer 2 and it is a great model especially when you consider the price. It seems very well built and it makes a really nice change to see proper iron on covering used as opposed to the more common 'sticky back' covering which is often used on ARTFs, this makes repairs a lot easier, incidentally in case you ever need to repair one profilm is a perfect colour match. A friend of mine has just finished a Middle Phase so it will be interesting to compare the two and see how they compare. -
DIY hi-start
Oliver Beams replied to Oliver Beams's topic in Gliders and Gliding - General Discussion
Thanks for the advice guys. As a cheaper alternative to surgical rubber tubing would it be possible to use the round, stranded, cotton covered bungee available off the roll from DIY stores? Oliver -
I have a 2 meter span thermal glider which weighs about 2 ¼ pounds and I am interested in launching this using a hi-start, although all of the ones that I have looked at seem quite expensive. So my question is it possible to make ones own hi-start and if so what type of materials and sizes should I be looking at? Alternatively does anyone know of a cheep source of a hi-start? Thanks, Oliver

Cleaning off fuel from my plane
Oliver Beams replied to Craig Spence's topic in All Things Model Flying
I have always used furniture polish to clean my IC models, I wipe off the worst of the oil first with some kitchen roll and then spray on some polish which is finally wiped off with more kitchen roll. A word of warning though, once you have cleaned your models in this way it may make any further film/tape or covering edges reluctant to stick down although I guess you could always clean any surfaces that covering needs to be adhered to with meths first. Brushless Motor For Wattage Tangent
Oliver Beams replied to Oliver Beams's topic in General Electric Flight Chat
Thanks for the advice guys, I will hopefully order one in the next few days. Oliver -
I recently acquired an un-started kit for a Wattage Tangent and I am looking at possible brushless motor options, it comes with a brushed geared 370 motor, although I would rather go brushless really. The stated all up weight of the model 15-17 ounces with the brushed motor/gearbox and nickel cells. I would like it to have quite a sprightly performance and I have been looking at this, http://www.brchobbies.com/?page=shop&action=additem&item=184 Any experiences/suggestions? Oliver

I definitely preferred the old forum style/layout, it just seemed a lot easier on the eyes than the new one does.
