  1. I most certainly will let them know. Put it this way Gemma, If I or anybody I know come across a good product or interesting site we tend to talk about them "hey guys there's this site etc. etc". I'm actually a bit puzzled why your reply is so smart,I merely asked what the problem is with spreading the word about what seems to be an interesting site, I have no problem whatsoever with you giving feedback some of which I agree with......... if not all..... what's the problem here????????????????????????????????????????     There isn't a problem. If I can see the email as unwanted so can others. As it is Geoff has been in contact via PM to reassure me the problems have been addressed, what more could I ask for?   I really do think Geoff would get far more mileage placing an add in the BMFA News for many reasons, though I can't blame him either for wanting to get the ball rolling as quickly as possible.   At the end of the day if the mails had be presented with an 'unsubscribe' link I wouldn't have posted, I did actually log into my account to look for a way to unsubscribe and at the time found none.   Both these issues have been addressed now so no problems at all.   PS liked your advice regarding Hotmail accounts, perhaps something I should have done ages ago too!
  2. I went from co-axials  to a Buzzfly... the Buzzfly is amazing but as GG says it's a terror to get to grips with, perhaps something else would be best.
  3. OK Aslan I'll be producing foams products for the hobby in September, can you let all your club members know please or better still give me their emails?   I actually saw the emails just like junk in my mail box to me it was unsolicited mail, the point being if I had contacted Geoff's ISP they would have probably agreed too, particularly as the all important legal disclaimer is missing. Geoff asked us to comment here on our thoughts, that's just what I did. Now I support what Geoff is doing, have taken the time to give feedback, those that perhaps don't support the idea, and we all know any commercial interest can cause sour grapes on forums, might have taken a different action.
  4. Well watching it again I guess the only advice is to keep the bank angle really shallow in the turns to avoid a stall if it dead sticks again Phil or as said just turn as needed into wind and land straight ahead. Making me wonder if a Wot4 would be a better bet for me for my first go at IC.
  5. As BEB says standing on the field at the time is very different to watching a vid. Makes me wonder though as I always thought a reasonable nose down attitude with a model would be enough to be safe, has been so far for me, seems the conditions on the day might have caught a lot of people out?
  6. OK Bruce I was moaning too, I have enough spam as it is and was a little surprised by the emails to say the least.
  7. Ah well glad it's all cleared up, shows what I know eh!   Wish someone would offer me some work, it's been 2  years now...
  8. OK Geoff, but if is club members you want to promote to, the BMFA News is received by just about all of us.   I still think an 'unsubscribe' button is a requirement for such emails not a luxury, you also need a certain amount of legal blurb that is missing to cover yourself.   I'm not really moaning, just trying to help you get through the early stages. Trust me been there, got the T-Shirt regarding new web concepts and promotion of them.
  9. My first flight was in a Dakota, my second flight and the first where I took the controls was in a Harvard, the third in a Moth - I'm still paying through the nose for the resulting addiction.   Have to agree the Harvard just puts itself where you want it and stays there in a bank, not like a soggy PA-28 at all, just a world apart. Peter where is your nearest airfield? Planes can usually cover distances pretty quickly if you want to have a go.
  10. Geoff, not sure I agreed when I signed up to receive spam emails regarding promotion of the new site?   Perhaps you ought to contact my club regarding the site rather than asking me to! Good try though. Club details can generally be found on the web, mine is AMFC.   A half page add in the BMFA news is very reasonable too.    If I did inadvertently agree to receive mail then please add an unsubscribe option to the emails as I do not want to continue to receive them.
  11. OK guys being a girlie I know nothing about football, you think you had it bad Bruce, I was only ever picked to be a goal post. All I can say is I now support Argentina and hope they give Germany a good beating (and that's only because I fancy Tevez).
  12. Have to say overall I've found Paypal safer than using a credit card on many sites. I've had three occasions where I've used a CC on what I thought was a secure site only to have unauthorised transactions take place (sadly all model related sites and no way to follow up how the details were stolen), never had that problem with Paypal as the details are not passed to the third party and use it now if the option is available.
  13. I've never experienced a glitch on 2.4 either, let alone total failure. Could be it was just the wind giving a false impression of airspeed and a resulting stall/spin, it's just it all 'looks' good from the vid but we have to factor in also that the camera would be panning along with the model so judging the airspeed or ground speed is subjective but the attitude did look healthy. We ought to fit black boxes to our models so we can carry out proper accident investigations!
  14. Not yet Doug, still on the do soon list! I did the Night Qualification then didn't fly for 15 months due to a sinus problem, concentrating on SEP renewal at the moment, test is tomorrow, fingers crossed for good weather.
  15. PS I should have said what a great film before going completely off topic!   I only noticed the QNH/QFE thing because I came back to watch the film for a second time having really enjoyed it.
  16. Yep Doug, that's a practice I adopted after my little excursion around the circuit at 400' instead 700'. One of those I learnt about flying from that days for me, an aborted departure had never come up in training. As a newly qualified PPL I had a PAX that turned a bit green looking on the climb out  whilst I had the QHN set on the main altimeter, I immediately offered to land - forgetting that I should switch to QFE, I won't get caught by it again though.
  17. Yep understood Phil it's not like I haven't done the same thing more than once, I bet we all have, it happens so quick with models, but usually when I stall a model at a vital moment I kind of sense it, I know the attitude is a little nose high and I sense the the model has slowed too much. Not that I can do much about it mind you other than picking up the bits.   Wish I could be clear cut about it but it seems your memory of the event goes along with my thoughts of watching the video. The main thing is to rule out any potential causes and be confident when getting back on the horse as they say. In a way I find it easier when I know it was just me that goofed it up!
  18. It's standard practice at our field to set QNH on the ground for local flights and departures as we have Stansted CTR restricting ops to 1500ft over one part of the ATZ and Stansted CTA at 2000ft over the other part and nobody wants to be fiddling with the altimeter settings on the climb out to the overhead.   We only set QFE for circuits and on rejoin   Perhaps he has controlled airspace over the field like we do so needed to set the QNH for the climb out to know he is in the clear during a departure?   Of course it can cause fun, especially when one forgets one is on the QNH after aborting a departure  to return to the circuit, all the students look too high in the circuit and all the houses look too big... yes I've done it and I wasn't the first.    Edited By Gemma Jane on 27/06/2010 23:20:46
  19. Phil, just watched the video, I don't think the model stalled at all. It 'looks' nose down when it went of  control a pretty unlikely attitude for a stall and that is no spin on the way towards the ground, the model accelerated all the way..   What it looks like is a spiral dive. Strange as they usually result from duff control inputs or loss of concentration.   I'm wondering if you had a radio failure?   It's just a gut feeling to me, it is just a video and if from the ground you thought you had slowed the model and it stalled than fair enough, but from the references on the video it really look like it was nose down and doing fine before entering the spiral dive.
  20. It'll always be the final turn that bites, a few clicks of down trim can help keep the airspeed up whilst concentrating during a dead stick, when I practice them I find it makes all the difference.   Hope she's up and running again soon Phil, been watching your posts on this model for a while as it is at the top of my wish list.
  21. Great news James hope you enjoy!   Into wind aileron in a crosswind take-off is a good example of the fact full size pilots do use aileron during take-off and it is perfectly normal and safe to do so.
