1. The build photos show an electric motor; will it take an IC?
2. Their website is www.wingsnwheelsspectacular.com  but it is not working at the moment giving the message       "This account has exceeded it's bandwidth quota and has been temporarily disabled" I was looking for directions etc but I suspect that if I just head for North Weald it will be sign-posted.
3. Thats a great picture! Recreating all those curves in the scale model is clearly going to be a challenge but I'm sure it can be done. The biggest problem remains choosing the right scale to match up with the appropriately powered EDF. It might be necessary to accept a small compromise on scale by having slightly oversize engine bays/ ducts; I reckon around 5% over should not be too noticeable.
4. David,  Thanks for the picture; it doesn't look too encouraging but as it seems to be the only plan available I might have a go at making it up.  I'm not sure if I like the sound of the foam tube fuz and Eric's experiences with it sound most off-putting! Richard, I 'd always thought that I'd need to make a number of models before attempting the Concorde, but hadn't thought of it as a number of Concorde versions. I'll give that idea some thought. I'm encouraged that you think EDF is feasible as I was begining to get the view that that it was not going to be possible.  Perhaps there will be better EDF's available in a couple of years, or maybe jet might become more affordable. Eric,   From your experience, did you think that there was anything that could have been done to make it fly better? I always saw my Concorde  as a long term project and need to accomplish a number of things before I tackle it including, finishing learning to fly, getting more flying experience with something more advanced than my current ARTF trainer.  In the meantime I will continue to pull together ideas and information to ready myself for the Concorde.
5. I am looking ahead with a view of turning my dream project into a reality. It is beginning to look like a difficult task but my aim is to build a fully functional scale Concorde.  This will be a long term project and I will probably build at least a couple of other planes first. These other builds will be selected to develop my skills and experience ready for tackling the complexity of Concorde. Current planning considerations include: Probably around 1/25th scale; expect to develop my own plansAs realisitic and true to scale as possibleFully functioning retractable undercarriageOperational "Droop Nose"Power probably Electric Ducted Fanand it goes without saying, it must flyI am sure that there will be many complex obstacles to overcome and am already aware that EDF might not provide enough power to get it in the air considering the amount of lift provided by the Concorde wing design coupled with the necessary weight resulting from including retracts. I will post updates as the project develops. Any comments would be welcome!
6. I've found all the debate on EDF in this thread quite fascinating and illuminating as I have a lot to learn if I am to use EDF in my Concorde project. I am a little concerned about the comments on keeping the weight down as I want my Concorde to have a fully functioning undercarriage!   Much more to learn I suspect!
7. Thanks for your suggestions Rob and Eric; gives me a couple of options to follow up.  One of the things I wanted in my dream project was an element of uniqueness and I suspect that if it comes to fruition it will be on the rare side if not totally unique.   Where were you suggesting I put the wanted ad, Eric?
8. My dream project is a Concorde!  It will be a while before I am ready to give it a go and will need to develop my flying skills in the meantime.  I have started researching the project but so far have found no trace of any suitable scale plans; I am begining to think I'll have to create my own!   I am thinking of something in the area of 1/25 th scale which would come out at around 8ft long with 3ft wing span. As I cannot afford real jets I am assuming that ducted fans will be the solution. I do hope to turn this dream to reality in the not too distant future but will work up to it with a couple of simpler models first.  If anyone has any ideas on source of plans I'd be glad to hear.
9. Rob, Thanks for the information. Unfortunately that company's website has big red message saying "Sorry we can no longer accept any new orders all previous orders will be honoured". I had actually got hold an appropriate steering arm from a kind member of this forum and had fitted it before others here advised not to bother. After much delay in getting together with my club instructor, I finally met him at the flying field only yesterday for my first flight. After checking the plane all over and making sure it was all set up OK, the instructor took it up (it taxied nicely with the steerable nosewheel). He flew it around and trimmed it and then got another experienced flyer to trim the buddy box. All was OK and ready for me to have a go when distaster struck!  The wing decided to separate itself into it's two parts leaving the fuselage to power itself straight down burying itself 6 inches in the ground. The engine case was split but the radio gear was all salvageable. Examination of the wing showed that it had not been assembled correctly with insufficient glue joining the wing sections together. Obviously this was not visible in its assembled state. So the job lot that I bought on Ebay did not turn out to be the good deal I thought it was. I'd been warned to expect the write a plane of sooner or later, but did not expect it would be before I'd even had a go myself! I've ordered myself a new Arising Star and a new engine and I will be ultra careful when I glue the wing together. Hope to be ready for my first flight pretty soon.
10. I'm just starting out with radio controlled model aircraft and probably have a lot to learn. I was lucky enough to retire early nearly 3 years ago. Initially, I decided to build a kit car and then got involved in racing it, but after 2 years came to the conclusion that I was never going to be the next Michael Schumacer!  I've always enjoyed making things and have resurected a model ship build that I started 8 or more years ago.  I decided I would now like to build a model plane and eventually fly it. So to get started I have acquired a Seagull Arsing Start trainer and all the gubbings from Ebay so I am ready to start. Have joined Chelmsford Model Flying Association and will soon get started on learning to fly. I'm already looking at what kit to buy to develop my model making skills; the Top Flite Cessna 182 is looking favorite at the moment but I'd be open to suggestions. After that I'd be looking at an interesting scale model (probably not a Spitfire as everyone does them!).
11. Ron, Sorry to hear that you've trashed your Arising Star, but I guess that happens all the time when you're learning. I've just acquired a 2nd hand one but it needs a couple of parts.  Do you have anything salvageable from your trash?  In particular,  I'm looking for a nose wheel steering arm. Richard
12. Timbo,  Thanks for the advice. I didn't realise that the rudder would turn it sufficiently when taxiing. I'm not sure if my modelling skills would run to "just making one up" but I'll give it some thought.
13. I'm just starting out on flying and had more or less decided to get a Seagull Arising Star as my first trainer. I was going to buy new until I spotted a full set up (plane, engine, radio, starter etc) on Ebay and bunged in a tentative bid and won!  Having got the plane etc I find that the nose wheel has the wrong steering arm so it does not turn and the pushrod has been removed.  Whilst I suspect that the plane will operate fine without a steerable nose wheel it will obviously not taxi.  I've been looking around for a source for the necessary parts but drawn a blank so far - any suggestions?
14. As someone just thinking about starting out, it seems obvious to buy the latest technology.  However, I am concerned that whatever club I join, the majority of members will still be running 35 Mhz and if I get 2.4 G I may be limited to who I can buddy with to learn. Any thoughts?
