  1. We had a discussion at the field the other day about the correct way to do a flick roll or snap roll.

The were several thoughts on the matter, so I was wondering....

Is there a "trusted" combination in moving the sticks?

Is there a right or wrong way to flick?

  2. I can't advise on the Cambrian Spit I'm afraid, as I've no experience of it.

But, have you considered retracts from Hobbyking? They're much cheaper and there are multiple sizes/types available: Retract

BTW. On the video of the full size Spit, I thought it was interesting that she landed without deploying flaps, is this common?

Wonder why it had no markings? Or maybe they were just too difficult to spot at speed?

Edited By Devon Flyer on 22/04/2013 20:23:20

Could've been difficult to see because of the light and speed.

Although I think there's a 4th aircraft being refurbished for the team and it possibly may have been that one that hadn't had the markings applied yet.

  4. I've always had great success with Tamiya "smoke" spray, gives great tinted canopies, and a can will do a few canopies.

Spray it using light "dusting" coats, 2 or 3 coats will give a good tint that can still be seen through (I use a Voltspy inside the cockpit).

  5. A friend has suggested that it's available on ebay (the velcro not the used nappies!).

But how can you tell if it's the smaller hook & loop?

So many sellers use a "generic" type photo, and the descriptions measurements don't always give much away. I already have way too much of the bigger heavier duty velcro (great for securing bigger lipo packs, but not much use for the little E-flite cells.

    Hi Andy

The digital version works on my Android based Samsung Galaxy S3 phone with a small screen (4.5" so I would think it is much better on a Nexus7.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks WF, I've now ordered one, so I hope it's readable on the 7" screen. Thanks for the help. teeth 2

  7. I've subscribed to the digital issue due to tightening purse strings because of disability and coming out of work, (but that's another story).

It's great to view on my PC in the dining room but I prefer to read in the lounge or in bed, so I'm thinking of trying a tablet computer along the lines of a Google Nexus 7 (if funds allow). The bigger iPad is much too expensive for my budget, sad so I'm hoping the 7" Nexus screen will suffice.

Does anybody here view the digital RCM&E on a tablet?

    What's your verdict?

Are there any issues/problems to look out for?

    All the best

    Andy

  8. Sorry to dig up this old thread, but I've just read it with interest, there's some great input. I've had my DX8 just a couple of weeks and so far generally I'm very happy with it.

The lipo is tempting, but until this 2 week old NiMh is a year or 2 older I'll hold off.

I must admit no not being impressed by the lack of charging cut off for the NiMh pack, so I thought I'd take it out and charge it externally on a delta peak charger. But... what's with that connector??? I haven't got anything like that amongst my many charge leads, is a lead with that connector available?

  9. As long as the hole in the wheel is about the same size as the bolt/axle it'll be fine. Use a small piece of fuel tube as a spacer on the axle to stop any sideways movement of the wheel on the bolt/axle.

    Hope this helps.

Got an unassembled kit from Wings and Wheels about 10 years ago when they were selling them for about a tenner and was thinking about getting it flying.

Me too, it still sits untouched in the back of my shed, I hope it hasn't warped or anything similar. I really must pull my finger out and get it airborne.

  11. I was aware that my 2.4gig Tx had a failsafe and always bound the model with the throttle at minimum and controls set neutral.
However, after reading through this thread I'm now a lot wiser. I'll now re-bind after the initial set-up, and again after the maiden flight when the model has been trimmed. I'll admit to not knowing all the ins and outs, but feel a little more educated on the subject.
  12. I'm not familiar with the ESC in the Wot-E, but try reversing the throttle channel, some ESCs won't arm with the throttle up, and yours is possibly on full throttle when the stick's down, reversing the throttle channel may solve this.
  13. Thanks Tony, it's good to know that she'll fly ok on 160w, some planes seem to need more watts per lb to fly, but the Fun Cub doesn't seem to be one of those judging by what I've read.

I'll just get it built and in the air now to see how she goes.
  14. I picked up a universal motor mount from my local today so now I can bolt the motor to the bench.
    On the bench I'm getting 11.3v, 22.2a, 251 watts @ 7700rpm on the APC 13x4e.

The battery is a 3 cell FlightPower Evo30 3200 mAh that I use in my Angel, but I'll get a couple of 2200 mAh packs for the Fun Cub to get started.

This should give me about 100 watts per lb, I'd like more but I'll see how she flies on this setup.

At the very best, you will only see around 10.5V under load on a 3s lipo.
    10.5 X 26 = 273
Still a long way short of 350 though, so sounds like you need a bigger prop.
Thanks for the info Tim, I just put my Watt meter on my Sebart Angel and the three cell pack was giving 10.3v, 43.5a and 449 watts. My Flightpower batteries are about 2½ yrs old now. I assumed that a freshly charged pack would be 12v plus and would drop a bit during the flight as the power was used.

I'm just making a test rig for this Multiplex Power-set motor to give that a test.
