  1. Thanks Timbo. Are you saying I can get away with a repair of the exisitng bulkhead?
  2. Hi guys My lessons have been going very well and the last couple of weeks have been practising my approaches and even managed a couple of landings!  No major mishaps (my plane is still in one piece!) but my last landing was a bit heavy on the front wheel. This caused the front undercarriage mounting (which is against the bulkhead) to push back into the fuselage and crack the bulkhead. I have attached a couple of pics to help describe what I mean. What I need help on is where to start the repair I haven't had to undertake any yet on my ARTF and was wondering where you guys would start? Do I need to strip back the covering and replace the whole bulkhead or can I just make good and replace the balsa? You can just about see the crinkled film from the compressed balsa skin ans the bulkhead damage. Don't be startled by the lack of screws for the undercarriage mount, I removed these to assess the damage. (Apologies for the out of focus shot) In this one you can see the cracks to the bulkhead easier. You can just make out the crack to the left of the bulkhead Here it is from a distance although it doesn't look like there isn't any. But you should be able to see undercarriage mount (I have removed the leg) angled backwards from the crash. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks Tim

  6. Thanks guys! A little confession – I am really inexperienced with Windows! I am a (wait for it) Mac user! Colin, when you say that you have to set it up in Windows as a controller is that in FMS itself or is it in the Windows control panel? Sorry to sound really dumb.  Hamish – is the driver readily available? TIA
  7. Hi guys I quite fancy the look of FMS as an RC flight sim (with the added bonus it's free) but was wondering whether I could use my own radio to control the planes. I have a Futaba 6EXA 2.4 set and I have seen a USB cable on Ebay for about a fiver to connect up to my PC laptop. But looking on the FMS website it says I can't without difficulty but other opinions I have seen on the web says I can but I can't find any definite instructions on how to do it. I have a PC laptop with Windows Vista (is that going to be a problem?) running quite a powerful graphics card but I don't know which one it is off the top of my head.  What's the general consensus on connecting a radio to FMS? TIA
  8. Thanks Shaun I have contacted George Worley at 4max and he has been a great help. They look like really good motors for very reasonable prices. They must be good if Tony Nijhuis use them.
  9. Here are my suggestions to throw into the mix; 1. EE Canberra (would love to see Tony do something EDF) 2. F86 Sabre 3. Hawker Sea Fury Would be nice to see something later than WWII as these are very common.
  10. Hi Guys Hope you are all okay. I need your help on a minor matter. I am currently building a 36" span Adrian Britton Spitfire from Fellside and have got to the stage of buying and installing the motor. The motor that they recommend is a Typhoon 15/10. They were selling them on the Fellside website but now Fellside seem to be no more!   So my problem is that I can't seem to find anywhere that sells this particular motor as in the kit the firewall was supplied with the holes pre-cut for the Typhoon. I am open to a replacement but can't seem to find much info about the motor and I had a look on Giantcod and BRC but was confused with the Kv ratings.  A little info about the Spitfire I am building – as I said it is 36" wingspan, has a target AUW of 22oz. The other equipment that they recommend is a Tornado 20 ESC, 1700mah 3S lipo and an 8x6 prop. Is there any info I have missed off? I plan to cover it with glass so I don't know if that will affect the weight. Could anyone help me with either finding this particular motor or finding me a replacement? I don't have lots of money to spend so wasn't looking at Hacker and quite liked the price range of Giantcod's motors. What do you guys think?
  11. Hi guys Thanks again for all the time you have spent answering my noobie questions - even if it has been trying your patience Timbo, that explanation about the capacity and voltage has helped me - it is so obvious once you start to understand you feel like kicking yourself! I have been doing a bit of research and think I will plump with a Loong Max 3000mah (when they get them in stock!) and if I manage to get my maiden in before yours Birdy I'll let you know. Tim
  12. Sorry Timbo, meant 10 not 30! Doh! Just got RCM&E and saw your article 'Electrickery Demystified'. Think I will immerse myself in that article. Hi Birdy That's really interesting about recommended LiPo. In my instruction booklet the maximum it has is 3100mah but doing a little research on the net has found, as you say, model shops recommending 3300mah! Who's right who's wrong? Would I not damage the motor/esc with 3300-3700mah packs? You will have to report back and let us know what flight times you are getting with your 2600mah pack. Mine is still a few weeks off from it's maiden, I am taking my time over the build to make sure everything is correct. Just as a point of interest, and trying not to change the subject on this thread, what did you attach your receiver with? Thanks again guys!
  13. That's great Eric. Easier once it is a visual thing, many thanks. Timbo, try this link http://www.ultraflymodel.com/product_motorFseries.html I have the F/18/10 Thanks again guys
