  1. Could anyone suggest a nitro proof clear coat spray that I could use over gloss oracover to make it Matt?? I have a seagull model, it comes built from the factory covered in oracover and then sprayed in their own (from Thailand) clear coat Matt , so it seals the decals and gives an authentic Matt finish. Trouble is some of it was applied thinly and/or wearing thin and could do with reapplying. They don't resell or supply it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
  2. Yes I've tried the linked pepper pot. It helped a little but nothing dramatic. Re canisters there are plenty available with manifold, clips etc but they are mainly for the dle manifold hole spacing and not the shorter 30mm spacing for the rcgf 20cc. So it seems like the custom route is the way to go.
  3. Thanks for the responses so far Just engines said they would modify their wrap around for £78 but couldn't guarantee meeting 82db, but not even sure its possible anyway to get below that anyway.. They did mention they are developing a canister system but that's a way off yet. Happy to invest in any of the solutions but, would love to hear from someone who's had this engine and improved the noise reduction.
  4. I've got a great running RCGF 20cc petrol in a Wot4XL airframe, very happy with it except the bark it makes out of the stock exhaust, it's very noisy. Engine is inverted, stock exhaust is small circular can with single outlet, by the looks of it there is no baffling present. To date I've installed a pepper pot in the exhaust outlet, balanced prop APC (large), installed foam/sponge in all voids, and de-rattled everything. All these have helped up to a point, but still very loud. Does anyone been down this path of taming the RCGF. I'm looking at following options: HobbyKing 20cc Pitts Style wrap around muffler - which includes baffles on the output £28 Just Engines - own brand wrap around muffler - which include input and output baffles - customised to fit rcgf £78 Weston - Canister £51, custom manifold £40, Teflon joiner £10 Any advice would be appreciated
  5. Thanks for your help guys. I'm going to take the engine to our club's resident expert tonight, hopefully he will take a look at it. I know some club members have access to machinery mentioned above and can put in a lathe and clock it up etc. This way they can check the extent of the damage. I'll come back with an update. I didn't consider the damage to the prop driver. I did think the face of that seemed off, so that may need to go on the shopping list too. I'm at work so cannot check. I would prefer to have trouble free running, but having forked out for a replacement fuselage I'm running out of £ quickly. Also with parts shortage, the shipping is look like what I've been quoted from uK shops 6-8 weeks from the US. With lack of parts support, in the future I'm going to stay with brands with more readily available parts. (Jon - I would love to own a Laser at some point, our club chairman swears by them).
  6. Hi Denis, thanks. I've been in touch with John from TJDModels, he's spoken to HH on my behalf, and gave me the above info. He's suggested ordering it, then that puts pressure on distributor to get stock.
  7. Thanks Jon. It doesn't look very promising on the repair then. Also no replacement shelf stock from uk retailers, distributors Horizon Hobby UK & Germany have no stock. Awaiting to see if Horizon Hobby have any in the US. The replacement crankshaft retail at £53, new engine £250 so it's still worth repairing (just), as long as nothing else is wrong.
  8. After a bad crash, I've noticed the crankshaft has bent in my Evolution 20GX petrol engine. It wasn't noticeable initially, but on closer inspection its about 3-4mm difference on the prop tips. No other damage noticeable to the engine, bearing sound quiet and smooth etc. Having trawled the internet, I've not found one shop that holds stock, and doesn't look like distributors have them readily available. Instead, does anyone know anyone who does engine repairs who can straighten a bent crankshafts? Thanks in advance.

The best twenty quid I ever spent . I never go to the field without mine. Another vote from me for the Hummer. Steve. Edited By Steve Colman on 20/06/2015 06:57:56 Looks interesting. What electronic do you guys use in the hummer? Motor/prop/esc/servos/lipos?
  10. Thanks guys will look at the hummer. What motor/esc/prop/servos/lipo do you guys run on these? 12. I keep on going around in circles (no flying pun intended) trying to decide upon my next plane. I fly solo in a large private field. The field has vey long grass at the moment so belly landing is in order, once it's cut the ground will still be quite rough so tough large wheel landing gear or belly landing is going to be required. I've presently got some helis, small quads and champ and the delta ray. The DR is good fun but a bit slow and I'm looking forward to moving to the next stage and progress into more aerobatic fun! Have a programmable tx, so just need bnf dsmx etc. I've not got space for a massive collection of planes, so looking for something that will be a challenge and something to grow into. I'm looking at Parkzone t-28 or p51 Artizan Night visionaire Eflite sukhoi su29 Hobbyzone 4fu corsair s Hobbyking Bixler 3 PNP or kit Hobbyking EFX racer ripmax chris foss Wok 4 foam-e Mk2+ Hobbyking AXN Floater-Jet Apprentice S (probably not that much improvement on DR) Any advice would be really appreciated.
  13. Yes your probably right. I'm up to page 78 on a bixler 3 forum post (different forum), every page seems to have more than one different combination of motor, esc, prop, even thrust angle. Issues with the stock elevtronics. To be honest its all putting me off a little. Might go back to my Wot 4 foam-e idea. Anyway I'm enjoying the investigation.
  14. Im quite keen on the hobbyking bixler3. Am I better sticking with stock kit with the PNP or get the kit and order electronics separately? Initially it would be used as a learning platform after my delta ray. I may attach my gopro on in the future. Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated. Applewood
  15. I have had a look at hk website and there is a Bixler3 how does that compare. Is that the one to go for out of the bix range? Looking over the forums there is quite a lot of love for the Bixler range. Too many choices. I like the flexibility of the bixler2/3 and looks like a good step up from the delta ray. It might be possible I could use this for the a test. 890g + 190g battery would take it over the 1kg threshold.
  16. Posted by Graham Biddulph on 16/06/2015 16:40:41: Like you I am teaching myself to fly, and like you I am flying from a silage field, I started with a firebird stratos, (without the wheels) now I fly the Apprentice s when the field is cut, and a Bixler when the grass is long. The Apprentice is an absolute joy to fly very sedate and manageable, the bixler is a little more demanding (no safe technology) but still manageable. Different planes for different lengths of grass. I like the idea of a plane for every length of grass. The bixler looks interesting and cost effective. Can you take the wing off during transport? Which type of bixler have you got 1, 2 or 3? It's about 1\3 of the cost of the apprentice bnf. Thanks to Jim and Dave for the feedback. I haven't ruled out joining a club, its just the convieience of the local farmers field that I like at the moment. The club guy said that I would need to change the apprentice rx, not sure if this is true or was trying to persuade me to get the wottie. Applewood
  17. Hi all, This is my first post on this forum so go easy on me. I've taught myself to fly with a Hobbyzone Champ and more recently Hobbyzone delta ray. Both planes are great fun but im always wondering what's next. Should I upgrade delta ray to brushless, removing the safe receiver etc. Or just move onto the next plane. The LHS recommended a) the apprentice 15e with safe but explained I would have to remove the safe RX if I joined a club and went for A certification. B) the ripmax Wot 4 mk2+ foam-e, which local club uses as a trainer. I have a full range devo tx (yes bad choice i know but it does work). It's got deviation software and supports full range dsmx protocol. I also have a couple of 2200 3s lipos from my trex heli which would be right for the Wot 4. The other issue I have with plane choice is with landing and taking off in the field that I have farmers permission to fly on. Its currently stocked with long grass 2feet, to be cut soon. This is great for belly landing the delta ray and champ. However not sure it will be OK to land the Wot 4? Not sure if you can fly the wottie slow enough to land on long grass without doing damage, or rough ground when it gets cut. Is there any other option I should be looking at? Thanks in advance
