  1. I tested this with a foam twister edf, first test was rx inside model drove of in the car and stopped using mobile kept walking away till max range was found. I took the rx out and tried with the ariel sticking out of the convenient hole under the fug. It now increased its range quite a distance.

Main point here was the max range with the rx inside was more than you could see the model anyway so no advantage unless you have a telescope taped on one eye Ha Ha or a camera and real time video.

  2. I tried charging from the lighter socket and found the charger cut out (low level protection) I had to run the engine to obtain enough power to run the charger, price of fuel these days not an option for me. It was ok on croc clips straight to terminal though.
  3. Motor Type Brushless outrunner motor D2217

    Shaft size3.175mm

    KV3500kv

    Max drain current35A

    voltage11.1v ~ 14.8v(3s ~ 4s lipo)

I intended to try it on a 3s 2200 25c. What connectors are you using for fan to esc?  I could fit 3mm gold (male or female)

  4. its on its way from China the country of cheap and sometimes nasty, email me the address to send it to. Will just the fan and motor do or would you like esc and batteries? Will laugh if it performs as well as dearer models.

  5. I agree the testing you are doing is beneficial I was referring to afterburners and such like. I found a cheapo fan unit last night at a grand cost of 10 quid, would you like to run it on your rig?
  6. Have you extended the battery wires to reach the esc? If so this could be your problem. I fly one on 2.4 with no problems. you could try putting the esc in the front and extending the motor wires read Timbo's answer to my last thread extending wires to esc.

    hope this helps

  7. Thanks guys,

I agree the jet works well, but if its capable of being 30% better with no extra cost !!!!!

looking at the model its seems to me maybe the front inlet is not fitted due to the position of the esc. It would be difficuilt to fit the ring without seating the esc lower into the foam will this then disrupt the airflow and counteract the effect? Or worse still make the construction to weak. I could mill a slot into the ring so it fits around the esc without seating it deeper. I will email Multiplex for their views anyone know the address?

Timbo, do your think your tests showing inprovement with ring fitted would still come to the same result if the fan was tested installed in model? Am I trying to inprove whats best anyway? While your not doing any thing just adapt your rig to hold the jet mate HA HA. Wil expect the result before fly time tomorrow.

Seriously keep up the good work I am looking to design a twin unit with large wing span so I can see the b******* thing with my eye sight. Your testing is helping my thinking one large fan or two small ones??

Would you like to have a look at the above fan unit, I am considering this for my hawk.

I stayed up very late reading your thoughts and theories and although very interesting I cant help but think why? I purchased a multiplex twister the other day for a grand total of £110 wired up 2 x 3s 2200mah 20c (cheap brand) in parallel and got 20mins plus flight time. The jet takes me as a moderate pilot to my limits, its fast, cheap, simple, light, works great and is clean enough to put on the back seat of my car. If it aint broke why fix it.

thanks for your answer on the extended wires to esc. I see your point but mounted in front of the fan (short wires to motor) gives the benefit of excellent cooling. I wonder if this is the reason they have designed it this way?

Are you saying I would get a better performance if I adapted the model to fit the inlet ring on the fan?

  9. Ok now I am confused, just finshed my multiplex twister and as per instruction book extended the battery wires to reach the esc parked in front of fan. Just read the article on electric flight and he says never extend batt wires if any thing extend wires from esc to motor. Which one is right? Using 2.4gh some not much worried about spikes and noise.

while I'm here the twister does not have cut out for front ring on fan, so fitted it without some one said this is a big no-no any advice on this one

    Cheers guys

  10. Hi Guys,

very new to all this, having read your threads I wonder weather you could advise? I just finished a muiltiplex twister I was bench testing and found the fan unit amps start to drop off at around 80% throttle. It runs up to 18amps then drops to 14 at full. I noted your comments on the induction ring the model as standard does not have cut outs for the ring so I just fitted it without. Could this be the problem? I have ample power 25c 2500mah 3s batteries and the esc should handle 45amp constant. its giving 680g of thrust at 80% with no improvement to full. Its a 5 blade set up with a 3600kv motor I cant measure the rpm though.
