Dusty
Hi guys, Just finnishig up my big Yak 55 with a DLE 55 petrol engine and just wondering which way to go with battery choices on the radio gear and ignition system (4.8 - 6v). Nature tell me faster charges with lipo but also the added expense of UBEC's etc to lower the voltages of 2s or 3s packs to run the required. Running 10 and 15kg torque servos means they going to be busy pulling Amps in a model like this... Is it worth getting a powerbox (which one)? Contributers are welcome! Chris Card
Hi Dusty, I'm a big fan of A123 cells for RX packs in large models. They have loads of advantages, eg. no need for a regulator if your servos will handle 6.6V (2S A123), longer service life and none of the safety concerns of lipos, more or less zero self-discharge (often cited as an advantage of lipos but in my experience they do self-drain). I think Puffin Models sell a ready to go 2S pack.
