Adding colour

Hi guy's, I have bought another airframe, It is already covered in white solar film all over both top and bottom, The question is what can i use to add coulor to it, I would like to put some blue chequre on the underside and some form of star burst  effect to the top side of the wing's, Do i need to strip the covering or what??

Can i use coulored solar film or some kind of low weight viynl (i think thats how to spell it LOL!!)

you can use solarfilm ironed on top of the original film but you need to do a few things first totally clean the original film and then go buy some etch primer from your local model shop solarfilm do one its called prymol paint that on the areas you are going to cover only and then with a cool iron apply your trim, solar film also do self adhesive trim for smaller areas

solarfilm of vynal sticker are ok but large areas are difficult as you can get air bubbles under the sheet that are hard to remove. solartrin is very easy to use

Yes, I find the best way to use Solartrim is to apply it wet with

warm soapy water. Also put soapy water onto the surface being covered.

It gives you time to slide the piece around for alignment.

Press down from the centre with a tissue & then leave to dry.

You can use a low iron to seal further,although this isn't often necessary.

It sticks very well.

I put profilm ( low heat ) over solarfilm ( high heat shrunk ) and all was well until a strip peeled off in flight and blanked one aileron resulting in a rekitting as the plane rolled into the ground.  

 

  I believe the adhesion of the trim films are better

For smaller areas, I have had success using windex on the back of the solarfilm, which ativates the adhesive, then slides into place. Leave it a few minutes and its there for good. If you miss any bits, a low heat iron will get it. This method helps to avoid the 'air bubble' effect.
