Futaba 10CG (well used) working into a FRSKY TFR8 Rx (new), 50 size Helicopter.

Had flown five sessions previously with no issues at all.

Session 6 - Passed Power down Range Check, so flew.

After OK several circuits on next circuit as I turned away from me the controls froze, then returned, and as I attempted to turn back towards the patch it froze again, and recovered.

Landed safely angled away from me and property.

Clearly Rx had rebooted at least twice, luckily very fast with this Rx. (I have ten of these in use, some for quite a long time, with no issues).

Power Down range check - passed again.

FULL range check gave only SAME range!!!! DOH!!!!

OK, so rest of checks proved Rx faulty........not helped possibly as I had just added a carbon fibre fan duct upgrade, which may or may not have reduced aerial effectiveness...

Heli has now full range checked OK and been flown OK with another TFR8 and again with a Futaba 617, but ongoing now have great suspicion of the value of doing a power down range check!!!
