Gerald Macartney
Have just started on the build but have come acrossa problem in relation to formers F2 & F3. On the plan and in the article in July 2007 RCM&E it states that these formers are cut from 3/32" balsa. Surely this is a mistake. 3/32" balsa would be far to light for these main formers. On measuring the plans it would appear that the correct dimension should be 3/16" balsa. Seems more logical to me. Can this be verified please? Allan Jordan
Hi Gerald, When I looked at the Bushwacker plan I thought that the fomers were just a little thin so I made mine from 1/8 ins. balsa, now that the fuselarge is more or less finished it looks and feels pretty robust to me. Is this any help?
Gerald Macartney
Allan thank you for your reply. Yes this is helpful. Glad to see that I was not the only one who noticed this. I was beginning to think I was reading the plan and article wrong. Glad to see I wasn't. Happy building.
Allan Jordan
Hi Gerald, Hope you had a good xmas! on my previous posting I forgot to mention that we have a thread dedicated to the Bushwacker build, have you seen it yet? Do check it out as there is an issue with mounting the tailplane. OH AND BY THE WAY ... HAPPY NEW YEAR. Regards Allan J...
Gerald Macartney
Happy New Year Allan. Thanks for your best wishes. Christmas was quiet but peaceful. Have started on the build. Fusalage is coming along fine. Have not seen the thread you mention but will look it up now. How is your build coming along? Happy New Year and safe landings. Gerald. Allan Jordan
Hi Gerald, I couldn't find the thread either, no problem though. In the build article you will find mention of a platform for mounting the tailplane but no sign of it on the drawing, it is in fact just a piece of 1/16 balsa sheet that covers the under section of the fuselage to which the tailplan is glued. Also note that the hardwood eng. bearers need to be drilled to accept the engine bearer plate screws, do this BEFORE you glue them in place! As to my Bushwacker build, I'm afraid I've only built the tailplane and fuselage so far, I'm hoping to make more progress this year( must spend a little less time on this forum) All the best for the new year to you and yours. Peter Burry
Gerald I built mine according to the plan. I'm just learning to fly, so I've crashed a few times. The fuselage former is one piece that hasn't broken yet! Give it time............
Gerald Macartney
A further question in relation to the Bushwacker - In the February 2008 issue of RCM&E Alex Whittaher gives some ideas about lettering and logo's. I like the one of 'Wee MacGregor in control' has anyone any idea where this loge can be found?
Allan Jordan
Hi Gerald, If memory serves the lettering was downloaded by Alex from the following web site www.adfonts.co I think Alex might have photographed the "wee macgegor from a piece of radio gear and put it in to his computer. If Alex reads these postings he might just " spill the beans" Best of luck with your building. Regards Allan
Gerald Macartney
Thanks for the reply. I have the font sorted for the wing. It was the 'Wee MacGregor' logo that grabbed my fancy. Hopefully he will read this and let us know. Thanks again.Gerald
Allan Jordan
Hi Gerald, Just had a thought, if you have a scanner you could always scan one of the JR radio adverts. and work from there. Is this any help ?
