Spice Cat
The mere mention of the name sends shivers down my spine as this was where I did my basic training. My mate, who lives in them parts has applied to join a flying club situated just up the road from the barracks and whilst perusing the site on Google Earth, I came across Bassingbourn and saw something a bit odd. To the west of the main runway are four circular roads linked to each other. Any idea what these are??? Also to the north of the main runway are the remains of what appears to be earthworks the sort of which would keep the Time Team happy for a month. Just across the road to the east is a long dead straight green strip with what looks like a roundabout half way up. It's about two miles long and appear fringed by trees. What's going on up there?? Turbycat
I would think the bits or road are some sort of hardstanding. The long grass bit looks like it's connected with Wimpole hall to the north end, ornamental garden? Andy
Chris Bott - Moderator
It's huge isn't it that long tree lined lawn, a lovely long southerly view from the house I would think, but it's crossed by a couple of roads. Seems very odd, I bet there's a story.
