Robert Bromwich Posted September 1, 2013 Share Posted September 1, 2013 Hi all I have i question, i am selling an item on the classifieds on this site and have had someone email me about it asking questions which i have answered. Then i got an email from him saying he would like to pay by cheque and to send the info to him, address etc. I had nothing then yesterday i got a letter with a cheque in for over a £1000 with no letter, nothing addressed to me. i took it to the bank as i knew there was something dodge about it and as i thought it was fake and the lady in the bank said i would most likely get a letter in the next week or so saying they had sent it by mistake and asking for the money back. just would like to no if there has been anyone else on here that has happened to. please be very carefull of things like this as its very easy to get roped in Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Pete B Posted September 1, 2013 Share Posted September 1, 2013 Unquestionably this is a scam, Robert. It was discussed in this this thread just a few days ago. They send you a cheque for far more than the value of the item, you are asked to send the balance to them. They take your money and their cheque subsequently bounces, in a nutshell. If you have disclosed any sensitive information, change it as soon as possible if you can and take advice from your bank if necessary.
