Magnatilla build

It was suggested I combine my posts as I have posted earlier probs on the Magnatilla and it was a bit disjointed.

The build came about quickly, fancied trying and thought I might find something on flea bay cheap.Got a early Magnatilla (mag from now on) kit which I thought was cheap.until I realised the wire landing gear was missing and the plans are tracing paper? and very creased/wavey ,so much so nothing would lay flat when pinned.because no full size drawing of the wire parts are on the plan.I thought I might as well get the new version.I would have spares if I go wrong at some point.I would like to add that the part cutting in the earlier kit is much better than the mk2 kit! And the latter ribs are very warpped.not using the new kit yet just the plans and wire landing gear.

Sorry to go on but I would like to let you know the sequence of the build and the things I have done wrong and stuck on so I can ask for help and advice.I will add pictures I have just started to take.I had started fuse befor this so no early pics there.

I started with the fuse main body which went ok then the rear lattice part,i was pleased with that to,the joine are ok but the pics do not really show. The first prob here is that I started building with no idea of the power set up. I have now decided on elec but I have not cut any holes etc for batt access or any hatch work ideas.I am totally to new to building.dscf1581.jpg

Had so start again! The pictures did not insert in the palces I wanted them and after the last picture I could not start a new text line.will try and find that out.

While I posted for ideas on power train I started the wings, first prob was understanding the trailing edge,i have 3 wing sections on 2 plans now and all are different sizes.the gap after the rib to trailing edge tip varies greatly,i asked in a post if this was as should be

Still can get text to start after picture!!!!

Think I have sorted the trailing edge,i have but a sanded edge on the upper piece at the rear to it lays againt the bottom sheet, makes the trailing edge a bit thinner?

Next question I have is regaring the fire wall mounting,i have no holes done as yet but it just butt mounts to the front of fuse.so I can get a more positive connection is is ok to use triangle strip glued to the firewall to aid connetion and alignment, picture shows the idea with old dtrip at present.dscf1590.jpg

dscf1593.jpgSorry chaps, last post for today, this shows my last mistake.I cut the ribs for the ailerons in the wrong place! I have have salvage d them to use at the root area because these need to be cut for ply barces and are stuck onto lower sheeting so I presume that will strengthen them, the picture shows my invisible mend.

I would like to add that in the wing build I m building the ailerons separate.i did not understand the method andcan not read the plans properly as yet.I will add more pics as I go.

I think my building level is ok its just the sequence and methods I do not know as yet.dscf1591.jpg

There are a couple of things just seen that I am not sure of.

The ailerons have a very steep face and going by plan attach at the top only and shown attached by film.Is there any way other than film to attach.would like to use some form of hinge.

Secondly is shows the wing being joined with one tip raised.does that mean I can build one wing section with a sloping root rib and the next section when built onto the first the root rib butts up to that? the plan says 47mm +/- 3mm.

It gives no amount of height at each tip,so I do not know if 47mm is one wing or split between 2.

Hinges - there has to be clearance for the control surface to move unhindered, so a top film hinge has to have the from of the moving surface angled away from the fixed face so then when the surface is moved down it doesnt bind

Robart or pin hinges go in the centre and have a rounded edge to the moving surface (and ideally a concave face to the fixed surface

The idea is to have as little gap visible between the moving and fixed surfaces as possible

===========

Without seeing the plan, 2" diahedral sounds about right, the 47mm will be measured with one wing flat on the work surface the other tip raised up 47mm - ie each wing tip being 22.5mm above the centre line
