Martin Whybrow
We're on holiday in the Lake District and are staying at Ullswater. I discovered there's a waterbird fly in on Saturday, so would like to come along to watch. Does anyone know the location of the fly in at Ullswater? Alan Gorham_
Martin, it's on both Saturday AND Sunday.... The flying site is within Waterside Farm Campsite near Pooley Bridge. You can walk down the lakeside public footpath from Pooley Bridge village past the flying site. May see you there, where are you staying? Martin Whybrow
We're staying at Sandwick, just along from Howtown. We're leaving on Saturday, but would love to come along to watch and chat before we head home.
Alan Gorham_
It's simple to find for you then... Driving from Howtown towards Pooley Bridge, Waterside Farm campsite is on your left. If you are driving to watch the flying then the campsite charge for day parking and the shop is just inside the entrance to the farmyard. Once you've paid you can drive straight on into a camping field, then through into another field with a hill. Drive over the hill and you will see the flying site dead ahead. These are the co-ordinates I took from Google maps: 54°36'12.0"N 2°49'49.2"W
Martin Whybrow
Popped along for a few hours until we had to leave to head down south. Nice to meet the guys and see a side of model flying I hadn't seen before. Thanks to Alan for making me feel welcome and for the technical chat; I plan to have something with floats next time we visit the Lakes.
