Coincidently he passed away on the anniversary of Einstein's birth.

And another coincidence he was born on the anniversary of the death of Galileo Galilei. spooky!

Surely 'the coincidence' is that Einstein was born on the anniversary of the death of Galileo? Given Stephen passed on the Einstein anniversary, the Galileo 'coincidence' is inevitable! cheeky

But more seriously, Hawking certainly lived life to the full, and left a lasting legacy.

I regret I have very little in common with them sad

Hmm....cherrypicked from many others, I share a birthday with:

and

Powered Flight

as well as the deaths of:

Rumi

Simon Bolivar

Viktor Hess

Dieter Grau

Some of which have flying/engineering connections, interestingly.

On the other hand, those who spend too much time looking up at the stars often ignore responsibilities around them, frequently with devastating consequences.

At least he didn't look down with his eyes closed and get run over by a "bus". He had his eyes open and looked up and survived to a reasonably old age.

Also he didn't have the fear of the church burning him at the stake for thinking.

Arhh yes, the technicians will inherit the earth as said in the film "Life of Brian" (cheese makers are food technicians).

There is a cartoon I have a liking for - one character says, "Question everything." The other character asks, "Why?"

Think about it if you can't see the recursive thinking there.

Hawking asked "Why?"
