Great you like the My-Lord.

On the original drawing from Robbe I did draw some ailerons but never used that.

And to be honest Iam happy with the way the My-Lord turned out it has a good Respons to rudder and don't Need ailerons.

It won't be difficult to modify the wing to ailerons but for me I wanted to keep the Lord as original as possible.

Hi Ton,

I have built the model generally as per the RCM&E plans. Unfortunately balsa sizes in NZ are generally imperial which was a bit of a problem with the fin, rudder, tail plane and elevators. Had to laminate imperial sizes.

However I would like to incorporate ailerons.

What size should they be? Are there any structural changes that need to be made to avoid the wing twisting under load?

From my investigations on line it looks like the ailerons would probably be about 275mm long and 50mm chord to match the existing wing structure.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Best regards,

Roger Mason

Hi Ton,

Thanks for your prompt response.

There are some pictures taken during construction which I will forward to you when I upload them to the computer. I had hoped to have the model complete by this time but Christmas and holidays got in the way.

Regarding the reasons for wanting ailerons -

1. The motor for the model is from a Scale Extra 330SC aerobatic model and is rated up to 350 watts. For the Lord I will fit a prop that will drop the power to around 275 watts which is still over 100 watts per pound. This will provide plenty of power and I want to be able to control the model.

2. After 17 hours of air time my Red Eagle powered glider has suffered a broken fuselage following an unintended half roll and subsequent crash from about 5 metres height. The half roll occurred when powering up to climb. The model was turning into the wind, but I suspect a gust of wind hit the model from the side. The wind direction on the day was varying up to 180 degrees. However without aileron control I could not stop the roll until too late.

Regards,

Roger

Hi Ton,

Photos of My Lord as promised.

Build was straight forward but finishing took longer than I expected because of the good flying weather.

The colour scheme is based on my stock of Solarfilm (now all used), and trying to get a contrast with the countryside around the flying strip.

Maiden flight due this week if weather allows.

Corby is out of action at moment.
