jonathan broadhurst
I've started glueing my Goldgerg Gentle Lady. I have built stab, fin and rudder. The plan says that i can hinge the rudder and elevator using two methods. Centre bevel technique or hinged covering. Can anyone advise me as to which is best method (bearing in mind i'm a new builder). Thanks
Tim Mackey
For ease, probably the centre line using mylar / pinned hinge is best. Hinge covering systems do tend to provide a better control surface due to no air gap, and look neater if done well - but on a gentle lady - your unlikely to notice. jonathan broadhurst
Thanks for that Timbo. Not done any covering before so i was edging towards a centre bevel hinge.
birdy
Sorry to but in, but how do you do the hinges. I have some weird polpropoprolene (or something like that) hinges, which have hard tabs and a thin plastic central bit. How do you go about putting those in? Thanks,Birdy
Tim Mackey
same as regular mylar hinges really. Fit dry, then very carefully and sparsely drop a little thin cyano into the slot where they fit. I also always pin all my hinges. I drill a 1 mm hole throught the trailing edge / surface straight through the hinge and out 'tother side. Then I insert a single drop of thin cyano and quickly push home a cocktail stick, cut off flush with sharp scalpel and then hide the job with a tab of covering film / paint . Tim Mackey
I successfully use cut up floppy disks on smaller models.
