Jason Hopson
It has been a long time since I have built a glider and I wanted to know what is a good glider.I live by the ocean and we have cliffs where people fly gliders.I know there is 2 types of gliding you can do one is Thermal soaring and the other is Slope soaring. I guess I am looking for more of a slope soaring plane but I need one that is good for beginners.I can fly motor planes but I know that this is a whole different ball park. The last glider I built was called the Wonder or some thing like that.I have also heard of a glider called a hotliner that can do up to 200mph? That couldn't be right and if it is wow.I figured I would ask the pros before I started looking at all the cool gliders.
Tim Mackey
Hi Jason take at look at this thread for some ideas - not sure about shipping to the US though?Andy Ellison is the man you need to speak to - I will get him to look in at this thread for you Of course a lot depends on what type of slope soaring you want to do - very fast gliders are indeed available

Matthew Lloyd
I think you should just follow your nose - scour the net - talk to people - watch people fly...Won't be long and you will be sucked in like rest of us!One more of us, one less of them. Slopetrashuk
Jason, are you Socal or Norcal?
Adrian
Halfpipe from North County Flying machines! It is easily the best fun I have ever had in EPP. However it likes to fly fast and doen't like to slow down much when landing so it will likely receive quite a battering while you are learning. If you are in California why don't you ask in the slope forum at rcgroups? They are more US oriented there and you will very likely make contact with some friendly local flyers. http://www.rcgroups.com/slope-97/http://www.northcountyflyingmachines.com/halfpipe.htmIn California they don't all fly at 200 mph they fly at 371 mph! Jason Hopson
I live in So Cal. San Diego co. area. I have been to rcgroups but I like this site better.Last time I was at the local field they were flying scale gliders taxied up to 1800ft alt. Some cool looking guilders there . All though there seemed to be some tension between the glider pilots and the motor plane pilots is that how it is? The only motor plane pilot the glider pilots liked was the guy that was a glider taxi.hehe I was looking at the multiplex blizzard that thing looks pretty cool.I like it but to me it just a high performance electric plane that can glide well.I was thinking about getting a flying wing would that be a good choice? Slopetrashuk
Jason - Go get yourself to Point Fermin and hook up with Radek. Is that near to you?Andy
Jason Hopson
Andy - I live south from there just before you get to Mexico there is a town called San Diego.I live about 40 min drive north from SD.(Oceanside CA.92054).I wanted to take some pictures of the ocean cliffs where I want to fly at but so much is going on with the holidays I haven't had time.Point Fermin would be a little to far for me to go unless it was for a really good reason. Thanks
Slopetrashuk
Oceanside is just north of Carlsbad and carlsbad is a hotbed of slope soaring talent. Hook up with matin Taraz and the lads at North County Flying machines: http://www.northcountyflyingmachines.com/Carlsbad is their home patch where they do all the testing etc.... Most if not all of it on the very cliffs you are talking about. Get on over and see them. Pick up a moth 48 while you're there. They're at Rancho Santa Fe about 15 miles SE of you. Also check out this yahoogroup : http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CarlsbadFlyers/ But you will need to register. That should just about put you in touch with every other slope flier on your patch. It is always best to hook up with the local fliers even if to just conform to their established practices and local use arrangements.Good luck.Andy
