Bruce Richards
Just tested the fan set up for my GWS A10. I think the 4800Kv on 3s is just a bit too much. It was pulling 30A flat out on just one fan. I am looking more for 15-20A per fan. I have bought 2 more motors 3900Kv to see how that goes. May need to step down to 2s Lipos but I have load of 3S so I want to try to use them. My speed controllers are 25A so respect to the cheap Giant cod unit it was hot after a quick test but did not emit magic smoke. Any helpful comment gratefully received. Tim Mackey
Must be the fan / blade design I guess. My 4900 kv inrunner on a 3 blade alfa fan only pulls around 12A static. I would think 2s would be too low in the RPM department
Bruce Richards
Sorry I forgot to say that they are the GWS 55mm fan units with 6 bladed fans. I may try cutting 3 of the blades off. I had a good result with a SFM fan unit with thie technique.
scott cuppello
GWS fans were designed for 400 brushed motors, and will draw daft amps, the only 55mm fan that would give decent instant results are the Phase 3 unit's on those kind of kv's [around 20A per side], but they are 3mm shaft only. Kyosho 55's use 2.3mm shafts I think?
Bruce Richards
Thanks for the info Scott I will try the 3900kv and if the amps are still to high I will try cutting half the blades off the fan. I have already spent more on this project than I planned to.
Bruce Richards
OK the 3800Kv motors have arrived fro GC. The current is now much more acceptable at 16-18A. Just need to fix it all together now and hope the LIPOs hold up.
