John Bunting
I see one or two retailers are now selling portable 'jump-start' units for £20. These might be useful for on-the-field chargers. They have a 17 Ah lead/acid battery, which should be enough to charge an average model several times, using a 12v. input charger such as a Shark 10. You can reduce the size and weight a bit by taking out the jump leads and inflator pump if you don't need them.
Mike Rolls
I've used one successfully in the past for field charging NiCads and NiMH battereis - don't field charge Li-pos because they take so long. One thing - the Sculze Chameleon charger doesn't like them - it needs (buried in the instructions somewhere) a minimum battery capacity of somethng like 60AH. I tried using my Chameleon with the jump start battery and it stopped charging half way through with a message something like 'Insufficient battery' - I forget the exact words but the message was clear.MikeMike
