  1. Daithi, Yes I agree on both levels the Piston Provost is a lot different to the Jet Provost, I guess I was basing my assumptions on the Supermarine Spiteful / Attacker where Prop/Jet share at least the same wing! How anyone can think of the Piston Provost as anything other than a trainer is beyond me! I'm going to go with Percy as I believe it would make a great first low wing scale model, easy to build, no retracts and not a bad looker / different All in all a nice plane and Not A Warbird!! PS I'm hoping if it does get picked that TNs version will outshine the black horse one in all aspects, as I'm sure it will! 66/70 ins like his harvard at6 Got to be a fourstroke in this plodder though! Cheers Steve Edited By Steve Adams on 11/02/2016 22:55:48
  2. I see on Tonys to do list there is a Jet Provost, So I'm thinking that a Piston Provost would make a good complement to this also is there a lot of design difference between the Piston and Jet Provost?....Apart from the obvious! If by chance there isn't providing the PP does get chosen would it be difficult to make it into a 2 in 1 plan that allows you to build both the Piston and or Jet Provost from the same plan with mods needed either way? If that could be done then the commercial viability would double effectively at a guess, though I could be wrong of course! Cheers Steve
  3. Even when I was growing up in the 80s Hornby train sets particularly the 125,Mallard,Flying Scotsman were very much in vogue I had the 125. The best/Rarest. Train set to have was the A.P.T(Advanced Passenger Train) Hornby never made many owing to the short service life due to technical issues with the real one. I do hope that things can be turned around as just the same as Rolls Royce in the 70s getting bailed out by British Government its to important to lose,I also said that about MG/Rover in 2005 but the Internet and change of ways and attitude has changed and sadly it'll be an uphill struggle to pull things back up even if that's at all possible! I wish them good luck and hope they can stick around for many years to come. Every remember the boy getting the signal box for his dad's model railway from the yellow pages advert? Cheers Steve
  4. Hi Guy's, The Piston Provost would do it for me if chosen by all/Tony. No rigging or fiddling simpler build than the bipes, could handle a breeze better, not often modelled....Yep definitely a everyday clubmans scale model, and dare I say would make a good first low wing scale model! Whatever wins though Piston Provost or Hawker Hind / Hart / Fury etc will be awesome coming from TN....I look forward to the autumn special! Kind Regards Steve
  5. If the 2016 special is based on mentions and votes the Piston Provost Has it in the bag so far! However as already mentioned maybe The great TN himself may possibly have a mindset on something already. Wouldn't be a bad thing either as this time around there seems to not be an overwhelming vote(scenario) winner which is strange as the TN pick a plane in the past years did. Maybe it's not strange though perhaps this time round most have been more imaginative with their entry's this time and that's great to see, better than the same old hum drum! Kind Regards Steve
  6. I definitely believe the autumn 2016 free plan will end up being a slight deviation from the normal warbirds/EDF jets etc. I'm sure the model chosen will be well thought out both in build, scale detail as well as being a popular choice as far as how much it's liked by the wider audience, which will naturally go hand in hand with commercial viability. Will be interesting to see what choice is finally settled on either by TN himself or the wider community /both! I love Tonys to do list as well with the Concorde, Vickers Valiant, H.P Victor,H.S Harrier etc....Just hope I can find a way to get rich quick so I can retire early to build and fly em! The Piston Provost is a great plane, and TN could do it fantastic justice if he did model it,and yes I'd be rushing out to buy an extra copy of the mag. However the only doubt with The P.P is the commercial viability as previously mentioned......It's a really shame we can't have a twin or EDF this time round, but then that would open more cans of worms! Oh well what will be will be. Now if a sporty bipe like a Pitts Special or the P2 Prometheus were in the mentions for bipes that would get me drooling over a double winger defo mmmm yummy....... We eagerly await TNs ultimate decision Cheers Steve  Edited By Steve Adams on 09/02/2016 00:33:18
  7. Hi Erf, Your right about the bias towards British aircraft, however We did make some good planes! In fairness maybe the pick a plane for each year if one was done could be conducted on us forum's, nz,aus etc so a separate country each year gets its own choice published in RCM@E ie USA modellers choose Douglas Skyraider for the 2017 special, NZ modellers choose P-750 XSTOL(Pacific Aerospace ) 2018 special, AUS modellers choose a DE Havilland DHA-3 MK 3A Drover 2019 special etc although this may never happen this would be the most unbiased way I think. I myself can be bias towards siding with British Aircraft (love your list Tony btw!) but I do like other aircraft as well from other countries. Some Multi National planes are good for problem solving in the model aspect I would think ie EE Canberra/Martin B57,HS Harrier /MD AV8,F35 Lightning 2(JSF) etc. I definitely believe that the 2016 autumn special will be the most different and hotly contested/debated magazine yet, and if that's how sales can be defined these days it'll be a sellout!
  8. Coming to a show room near you...... The Kawasaki FPV MPV!(Multiple Plane Vehicle ) Edited By Steve Adams on 01/02/2016 18:41:31
  9. Hi Guys, Got to admit that Percival Piston Provost is starting to get a few mentions which is great.....gives the bipe boys a run for their money! It's a cool plane and would be a good subject to model.I don't think there's to many plans for ole Percival around are there? I quite like it,definitely one that grows on you! Kind Regards Steve
  10. Hi Guys, Are there any more suggestions for the autumn 2016 special? ....Ok some more to throw into the equation! DHC -3 Otter(with and without floats) ,Bellanca CH 200 ,Bellanca Skyrocket 2,American Champion Decathlon, Epic LT experimental aircraft ,Ultimate 10-300 ,Cranfield A1,Cessna 02A(yes I know twins are out this year and this is a push/pull twin!) but it could have one motor and a free wheeling dummy on front or back! Come on chaps what other planes can you suggest? I can't wait to see what final plane settled on will be Btw! Kind Regards Steve
  11. Hi Guys, If a biplane wins, then what will be will be. I have no doubt being crafted by TNs own hand it will be a corker, and could even win me over! I'm revising my 3 a little as I think the introduction to scale can't be ignored either. 1) Piper Cub(including L4) 70 + span good looking and more forgiving(ie no tip stalling like Flair Cub! ) 2)Monocoupe 90A 70+ span 3)Luscombe Phantom 70 + span Either electric or ic 2/3 piece wings and if possible removable undercarriage as accidents will still happen! I know these aircraft can still be aerobatic, but they can also be tamed down as well. They are good looking, should appeal to RCM+Es World markets in terms of sales, and can be considered as scale aileron high wing trainer's so could make good 2nd/3rd models. Please consider this as me not butting in,just throwing the beginner into scale into the mix as another angle, either way bipe or high wing cabin win, this Autumn Special will be the most different /Diverse yet! Based on that it'll be worth having a copy or two in ones collection! Kindest Regards Steve
  12. Hi Guys, I'm surprised that if there were to be a scale simpler aircraft chosen like TN could be leaning towards (aimed more at the beginner to scale) That a Monocoupe 90A,Auster AOP9,Fairchild Argus,Bellanca Skyrocket,Luscombe Phantom and any others you guys can add and think of haven't been mentioned .Pretty planes and simply built by comparison to Tonys others. Problem is I spose mag sales again possibly? Cheers Steve Edited By Steve Adams on 25/01/2016 21:33:42 Edited By Steve Adams on 25/01/2016 21:51:59
  13. Cheers Colin, Love your Supermarine Spiteful and Seafang btw. Wow what a mixed bag it really is these Autumn Special choices are turning out to be! The Martin Baker MB 5,Miles M39,Handley Page HP75 Manx,Bede BD 10,Vans RV3,Rutan long/Acro and Vari-Eze, AMS OIL Rutan Racer are all unusual great looking aircraft would make nice if a little complex model subjects. I wonder if TN has any of these or others like this on his one day to do list I think a bipe,WW2,Cub type may have it in the bag though this time, almost like a commons debate difficult to see which side/persuasion is going to win!  Kindest Regards Steve Edited By Steve Adams on 24/01/2016 21:55:55
  14. Leccyflyer, That is not what I meant, why is it in this day and age so many people seem to take things out of context,or jump to conclusions?....Maybe something in the water perhaps! In simple man's terms ie mine! It is better for a chat thread to just be a chat thread and a vote thread to just be a vote thread...simple no arguments easier to understand for everyone, and for totting up etc! I mean no offence to anyone in this or any other thread, as nearly everyone all have great and greater experience than me on most subjects. I have much I could learn from many people like you leccy, and don't want to fall out with anyone,my philosophy in life is a stranger is only a friend I haven't met yet! I'm really sorry if I did cause offence to anyone, as this was not my intention...quite the opposite I was hoping to gain friends /allies by helping simplify things that's all,I'll never dispute others efforts and hard work I'm regularly inspired by many modellers hard work including the great man TN himself! Please forgive my unintentional offence everyone if you can, can we put it down to a clash of mutual passion? Many Thanks and Kind Regards to all Steve
  15. Hi Steve H(Mod), Yes I think I'll start a separate chat thread for general chat about the 2016 special, and with Tonys permission you/we could clean up this thread to be a votes only thread. Ian N yes I think the TN shortlist of what he would like to do as a subject would be the way to go. Cheers Steve
  16. Daithi, I'm in total agreement with you people are trying to get Tony to re invent the wheel and an ugly one at that. Maybe it's just me being biased, or should that be bi-biased perhaps? If we do get Tony to re invent the wheel as it were, from what I gather he is looking at cheap ,easy build models. So based on that ethic, both begginer and experts should be happy. As my 3 never faired well at all I'm leaning Tonys way for my real final no going back scrub the other3 for these! 1)Piper Cub( showing all variant. Inc L4) about same size as Flair Cub was 70 or so span, with no nasty tip stalling habits the Flair Cub had! 2)Cessna 120 very nice classic again 70 or so span 3)Wilga PZL(they make great glider tugs and different to boot) So there you have it guys I've been won over by the keep it simple ethic all I would say is just keep it simple guys ie no retracts, and high/low wing would be the order of the day, remember after all its still down to tonys discretion to. Steve
  17. Hi Guys, I have had a rough count up of the votes so far. I would like to say that it is very difficult to get an accurate count up due to all the chat in between...Yes I'm just as guilty! Im wondering if the mods can shift all the chat over to a separate chat thread at all please for more accurate and easier vote counting if possible? Anyway here's my observations so far,if I'm miles out blame the chat and let me know. 1)Hawker Hind/Hart/Fury/Nimrod.....9 2)Mitsubishi Zero.....6 3)Gloster Gladiator.....6 4)Percival Provost.....5 5)JU152.....4 6)Fiat CR42.....4 7)BF/ME 109.....4 8)Miles Magister.....3 9)Yak 50.....3 10)P38 Lightning.....3 11)Sia Marchetti SF260.....3 12) Concorde / HS Gnat among others are tied on 2...Oh well you can't win em all! I have noticed that some of your guys have only put 1 or 2 votes in,could we make it the 3 as Tony suggests please,to make voting more accurate     Edited By Steve Adams on 24/01/2016 00:32:24
  18. Kawasakis New KI 4(Kwad-Copter) takes the pilot to the patch! True Japanese ingenuity
  19. Kawasaki are giving Slec a run for their money with their Four- Fly equivalent to Slecs Funfly range!
  20. Hi Andy I have no idea how to upload a picture that I have on my computer! But this should be right up your street http://www.rcgroups.com/articles /ezonemag/2000/Feb/aspa Cheers Steve
  21. Hi Andy, A Gloster Meteor and Messrshmitt ME 262 would make a great Dogfight Double pusher props/EDF. The Meteor NF11 would be the best varient but I don't think they met in combat is the only trouble Steve
  22. Bucker Bestmann...hmm very nice Luke! Another one similar is the Messrshmitt ME 108 Taifun both gorgeously different Thats the name of the game though mixing it up,plenty of variety....Letting our imagination run riot!! One could argue that the Bucker Bestmann and ME 108 Taifun would make great first low wing scale models. Those Germans certainly knew how to make a good plane like us Brits in their day, didn't they?! Happy Days   Edited By Steve Adams on 20/01/2016 22:31:49 Edited By Steve Adams on 20/01/2016 22:35:06 Edited By Steve Adams on 20/01/2016 22:36:23
  23. Daithi, Of course your right the Hurricane is nothing more than than a monoplane Fury, but it looks so much the better for being on one wing rather than two! Good picture btw I Shall call it a Furyhurri...a Fury in a hurry to get rid of that awful draggy weighty top wing he he The resemblance to the Fury,be it an even cruder one is uncanny! Do we really need Fury in the TN stable? We're halfway there with the 62ins Hurricane already. However if it must be a biplane then the above I already mentioned would be the way to go,and not based on anything as far as I know, but I'm no expert on bipes! One thing I will say about this pick a plane so far, apart from some there has been more imagination used this time! Not heard Barrys Westland Whirlwind mentioned though....Shame had potential! Steve Edited By Steve Adams on 20/01/2016 21:00:17
  24. If it really has to be a biplane then...... 1) Gloster Gladiator 2)Fairy Swordfish 3)Bucker Jungmann/Jungmiester....Fiat CR42 Would be the best of the bunch,I think but like I say bipes as a whole are not my bag,but those above are nice! Anyway guys is a Hawker Fury not just a double winged Hurricane? Clearly I have no taste I know, but that's exactly what the pick a plane is about,Tony designing a plane picked by the majority. Kind Regards to all Steve
  25. I agree Robin, Another Dogfight Double would be good. I particularly like the idea of the JU88 and Beaufighter sounds great! I remember Tonys Mosquito and Moskito twin double were fantastic could include anything like you say Harrier and Puccara or Mirage 2000, Skyhawk etc from the Falklands conflict. Still would love a Concorde as well though. It's like Tony says.....sooooo many subjects,so little time Never mind there can only be one winner, unless it's a dogfight double as Robin suggests Time will tell I spose Cheers Steve
