  1. I have never had a problem with my OS recognising and storing the settings of my TX but I did have a few problems with the calibration. After one or two or maybe three or four attempts I finally managed to calibrate the TX without a hitch until it came to adjusting weather conditions and crash percentage for other aircraft!. Not only that but my son managed to chew the CD in the drive and it shattered beyond repair! After an hour of careful surgery, I was able to retrieve every part of the CD. NOW, my problem is that after an agitated discussion with the retailer, it appears that I MUST buy the whole package again and the CD alone costs £13. That doesnt make sense? The Original CD and TX only cost me £19. What am I going to do with the spare TX? I know you can somehow play with a split screen two-player mode, but doesnt anyone else think that for the CD alone it is a bit price-heavy? I even made a copy of the CD as aBack-Up but without an original copy, my PC will not recognise it. Any ideas? p.s. I just love the Trainers on the CD...the crash realism is so REAL! hahaha!
  2. Hi friends. Ive just been looking at a FUTABA FP-9VAP PCM 1024 A 9 CHANNEL TRANSMITTER. Can anyone tell me what it is actually worth to buy today even though its an ancient model? Plus which would be the recommended reciever for it? I know its 35mhz but I cant really afford to go 2.4ghz yet and this seems like a bargain. (Im not telling the price until I know what they actually go for, to save my embarrasement if I go for it!) Any help would be appreciated. Ian.
  3. Thanks for that David. Sorry to get back so late but I have been worrking like mad , what with the snow and everything. I only wish choosing a set-up was as easy as monitoring sewers! Getting the "flow" of things, if you know what I mean? Haha. I actually bought a HiModel BL2820-07 (500W) 919Kv Brushless Motor & 60A 'Professional' ESC Combo Deal. brc338. More than enough power I think with a 14x7 prop.... but which Li-Po? 25C 2200 3S or 3250 3S/or 4S? Not only that...but I got to buy a new charger! Any reccommendations? Thanks in advance. arko (ian williams)
  4. Hi all. I just got an Edge 540 from Seagull and also brought the recommended motor to go with it. Problem! This motor according to the manual should be attached to the front of the motor mount. The motor has a shaft that when fitted, to the mount faces backwards into the fuz. Is there a way of reversing the shaft so that it sticks out of the back of the motor so that I can mount it on the front? I can see a collar and a couple of other threads but I dont want to try until I have a little advice from someone. The pic of the motor is here... [here   and the plane is..... [here   Any help would be appreciated. Maybe Im just a dumb.....
  5. Hi. Yet another q from an electric flyer. Who could recommend a good prpop and Li-Po for the following Kit and power-combo?   Seagull Edge 540 EP:   Wingspan - 42.7ins. 6. Hi again. I need help yet again! I just purchased an Overlande Technologies Extra 260 E30 Series 49" from MSL in Leeds (Great price!). Ive been looking for the ideal set up in power. One site recommends a Tornado Thumper 3542 with Tornado Opto 60 Amp ESC and a 3S 11.1V Lipo. Another says a Hacker A30-14L witha 60Amp ESC and 3S 2100-2600 mAh Lipo. Another says something else and now Im unsure what to buy. Flying weight is 2.3-2.65lbs (1050-1200g). Ideally I would like enough power to hover and pull into vert without weakening anything....like my nerves! haha. Can any fellow member recommend an ideal set-up and also recommend a comparitavely cheap option as a combo? Many thanks in advance friends. Ian.
  7. Funny, I was just on freestyle rc and checked the spares and it seems that they are still available. Or is that the old web site. Anyway, I have contacted them and await an eager reply.
  8. Hi all. Back again after the hols. I still managed to get onto a pc to enter the xmas draw though.   @Rob, How much difference would a 45A make?  @David, Yep its the extreme-flight. I dont know, this model just appeals to me so much, its getting a bit of a fetish...looking up everything on all sites, reading the mags, (no...not those ones!) watching the red-bull races etc, etc. By the way, going off-topic, is it true that Red-Bull decal sheets are not allowed to be sold separately? Ive heard that only a very few firms are granted a license to have these on their models, if any.
  9. Ive had the same problem. I havent touched the idle needle as previous advice says that its factory set and I shouldnt touch it. I keep turning a click on the main needle eithrer way and she still wont potter on without a big splutter then nothing. Should I or shouldnt I, touch the idle needle?
  10. Im looking to buy  my first low wing aircraft. Its an Extreme Edge 540t-E. Its a combo deal with: Propulsion Torque 2818/900 brushless outrunner motor  Propellor 13/6.5 APC-E propellor Electronics Airboss 35 amp electronic speed controller 4 x HS 65 Servos  Battery Flight Power 2100 Evo Lite 3S battery  Price £259. Any comments good or bad appreciated. Ive seen this bird flying and I am fascinated although the Extra 300 54" looks really impressive too. Thanks. Ian
  11. Thanks Rusper. I have just been searching but to no avail. Im not sure what Dual Conversion means as this appears quite a lot around the various websites. I have a Graupner Tx and my son has a Carson Eagle Tx. Could anyone also supply some web sites where I might be able to find the crystals I need? Thanks.
  12. I have taken the advice of this forum and joined a club. Myself and my son have been allocated our own channels, 79 and 81. I didnt want to look daft and so I didnt ask the club admin about how to get hold of or how to recognise the crystals for these channels. So if anyone can throw some light on this for me I would be very grateful. We both have 35 mhz transmitters.
  13. Funny how I always seem to get my entry in after the tenth page, is there something I should know? Haha. Im in.
  14. Nice one. Congrats.   That must be some hobby and expensive, sorry, gone off topic.
  15. Have a great day Hamish and will be keeping my thumbs crossed for your grandson.
  16. That was funny Hamish, I bet you didnt realise what you typed. Hahaha. (as in picky, nose, get it?)  Well, the decision has been made by my missus to get down the club in Llantrisant and get both my boys and my fees paid for 2009, so there is no turning back now. Lets hope next week I'll be up flying.
  17. Thanks everyone. I am definately gonna take the sound advice and get down the club and let the pros sort it for me, Ive heard that they are only too willing to share their experience to a noob. Once Ive got it sorted I hope to be posting my blog of the build through to the maiden voyage. Many thanks once again. Cheers Ian
  18. Okidokee. Here we go one last time as Im not sur if I have explained it correctly..... I have a tank with 3 nipples. 1 to the pick-up for the carb, another for the silencer and one for the fill. So, If I understand correctly, the one to the silencer is actually the vent?, and if so, I do not need the fill pipe? By what everyone has mentioned, this could be my problem. I actually had gunk coming out of the silencer after I tried to put her away for the day. I tilted her up to get her into my loft and got covered in a thick mix of I dont know what. It was like the same colour as the fuel but very thick and not of the same viscosity as when I put it in. Regarding the tuning of the needle, you say I should only open her to 1/ 1/2 turns from fully closed to enable her to run when the throttle is fully closed? Golly, this is so confusing...I wish I were at a club. Im not gonna get beat on this though and going to the club, even as a last option, I will get this bird up! All your comments and tips are greatly appreciated and are ALL taken onboard my friends. Lets see what happens tommorrow.  Many thanks and please keep the suggestions coming. Ian.
  19. Yep,count me in! Maybe noobs also have a good chance.
  20. Thanks for the comments. I use a single cell nicd and the tank has 3 tubes. I did notice that as soon as I went to remove the glow starter it died immediately. Also, after flicking, it seemed to jam after a couple of revolutions. Is that normal? It just stuck and didnt sound right. After it ran for a while it spluttered and died but I was hopeful because the first plug didnt allow it to do anything. The question about 2 line or 3 line Timbo, is that to do with the return of fuel back into the tank, because after flicking, the fuel seems to dissappear back down the line? I have bunged the "fill pipe" with a stopper for now so I dont see where the air is getting in, or is that normal too?
  21. Hi folks. I have an SC46a engine. I took an eternity over the build of my Seagull Boomerang Trainer 40 and likewise the same time to mount the engine. After reading the instruction manual and several posts on this site, I decided to flick my prop and hoped for the best! Alas, I blew my first plug, ( ModelTechnics 7 Hot) which came supplied. I still dont know what happened, I presume it was my control panel settings? I decided to then buy a glow starter that you can re-charge so as to give the correct current. Anyway, I ordered 5!, yes 5!, to be on the safe side, of the same plug. I carefully fitted it and went back and read again a few posts and the instructions without first adjusting the carb, and bbrrrppp! It spluttered into life for a second or two, although it seemed like an eternity. What elation I felt knowing the engine did have a mind of its own and come to life. Obviously it died on me and I tried to close the needle a click or two as there was what I thought quite a bit of spluttering mess emitting from the carb. This worked, for a while but then it wouldnt react at all! I was right to presume I blew another plug but for the life of me couldnt work out how, why or even still...was it my fault? Should I get the flying club instructer to set it for me or do I giv it another whirl myself? Does anyone have the exact settings for this engine model? Please be gentle with your answers as my whits are at their end. Thanks in advance. Ian
