  1. That's similar to the bloke who went to the garage and said;- "can I have a set of plugs for my Lada" and the garage owner said:- "That seems like a fair swap¬ Boom Boom (I'll get me coat) cheers mog
  2. Yep - agree with the above - bin it !! There are some great new cheap lipos about now and it's not worth losing a model through either fire or (as I have at least once!) running out of power a bit far from the field - and seeing a precious flyer disappearing into a field of maize the other side of the hedge !
  3. I just think it's nice to enter a FREE competition without having to wade through yeards of "just fill in this opinion poll, enter three different sites, put your name down for 30 unwanted brochures etc, etc" thanks mystic mog
  4. Thanks Kevin - am going to the Wirrell on hols for a week (half term) and will look for the Blade CX2 - Have already researched model shops - looks like several in the area cheers moggie
  5. managed to get the 'copter flying but busted a blade - back to the drawing board - perhaps I'll try one of those double bladed contra rotating thingees  - How well do they fly ??
  6. Good luck - weather forecast good for tomorrow
  7. Charged up the batteries on the helicopter and as its very calm will try it outdoors !
  8. Well - you seem to be doing ok so far - but remember the unexpected - anyway good luck and hope it all goes well cheers mog
  9. Craig, David is right - even if you can't afford to join a club, PLEASE join the BFMA - if only for the insurance ! In this day and age you've only got to fly near someone - or their pet/livestock/house etc., etc., and they'll state that their health/property/ right to life, freedom and happiness etc., etc., etc., has been irrevocably damaged and they'll sue your A*** off  !! See the adverts on TV - Also one of the reasons the Club I belong to (when I can afford it !!) has gone to electric flight is that - not withstanding we are in the flight envelope of RAF Brize Norton, with it's C17s, and other loud jets including the Antonov, someone complained about the noise of IC engines - on farm land !! at least 1/2 mile from nearest house. So to save being either sued for damaging someone's hearing, or noise polution etc ! - So DO Join the BFMA - You will at least have the armour of the association round you if the worst happens ! cheers moggie
  10. Ah Yes, We had a senior club member - called"The Commander" (no idea why ??) but he used to prove that you could fly anything on control line- he got a wooden tea tray put an engine and controls on it - and - yep - it flew !!
  11. Ah So - sorry - I got really in to it - used to fly "combat" with a number of kielcraft "talons" that I knocked together on a Friday night, finished and painted on Saturday night, and flew and mostly demolished on Sunday ! Although, to be fair, some lasted for about a month before bad flying (or bad judgement) bin jobbed them - Had some early Graupner radio kit but was a bit too tempremental for me !
  12. Hi Eric, seems like a familiar story - like you a control liner 40 odd years ago ! - Wen't to work for a guy who is a real "Ace" flier - and the driving force behind the Witney Club (Oxfordshire) The club has changed to electric from proper engines - so a double "newness" - have spent a lot of time on the simulator as cannot afford to fly much - trying to save up the cash for this year's club membership - will get there in the end - again the weather has not helped - but keep on trying !
  13. I am also a "learner driver" - I spend a lot of time on non flying evenings on the flight sim - I got a G3 when I first started which was a bit pricy - but I now see that they are getting really affordable - anyway the upshot is that - with the "small" nature of the screen the model often gets a bit far away and I am not sure of orientation - My "real flight" tutor says "stop stirring the sticks, see which way the plane seems to be going (up - down - left - right)" try and get wings level then try a left or right turn - with a little "up" and see - you can then gauge if its upside down or right way up  and then take appropriate action - if it's right in the sun - don't use up or down but try a "flat", slight turn to get visible - if it comes over the pits or flight line - accept the "head slap" from the senior members - I know - it hurts !!! - the up side being that if it does you know it's close enough to see its orientation and - again - take the appropriate action cheers - moggie
  14. This is a good thread - I am learning a lot about switching ESCs - I am not long started into electrics and have always been told to "Use the motor, ESC and batteries recommended " either in the kit - or by the model shop owner. Having spoken to other flyers it would appear that some choices have been either "over engineered" - or belt and braces ! - I will keep reading and, hopefully, learning - So eventually I can make my own choices thanks
