I appreciate the difficulty in filling a magazine with material for aeromodellers (in its original sense) every month.There is a finite supply of interest as the subject is of little innovative value apart from the RC bit where advancements are of course helping us to improve the basic reason for flying ones own creation,Longer life and more fun at much more realistic prices then ever.Maybe drone flyers will pick up a copy of RCM&E hopefully to discover more of their model flying aspirations if that is the case from the more conventional articles to do with the enthusiasts world (obsession)

Ken We never had "pop rivets" in my hayday ,only proper ones! Happy new year !

More and more concentration on drones/cameras in our mag .Not for me ! Call me old fashioned if you like .

I built all of the Keill Kraft 3s/9d scale kits apart from one I got for Xmas which was a real challenge .Too many stringers and fragile formers if I remember using a s/h razor blade only .Young people don't know what they are missing.

Does anybody remember doing "De-cokes" My first was on a Rover 105 when I was12 years old for a close neighbour who was a professor at Nottingham university & didn't trust garages.He saw me mending/ tuning motorbikes .Those were the days alright !

One aircraft I have built two versions of over the years was the Piper Cub .It probably would fly best with only up aileron (no down) but never tried it !  My first experience of aileron reversal and scary . Edited By Myron Beaumont on 08/01/2016 15:11:12

OK Andy BUT in 1950 all we did was buy some wood ,recycle what we could ,regulations ,organisations to control aeromodelling did not exist in any form .Then if my memory serves me right ,SMAE came about ?

I don't need anyone to tell me how to enjoy my hobby for 62 years .I have passed enough exams where necessary ,I certainly don't want to be "examined" regarding my lifelong hobby.What next Eh!? Grumpy (non nanny state Myron )--Too much beaurocracy redtape RULES & compliance etc.etc  Regretably selling up soon thanks to immobility-Will let you all know when I finally decide . Presumably it landed on unprepared ground? Makes you think -what kept something of those dimensions upright without the TO (take off gantries etc )supports .Hmmm?

Oh dear Peter ! Why oh why don't folk like your means of propulsion for which your magnificent designs are meant? Now we are bombarded with incomprehensible motor code numbers/the requirement for a box full of propellors /To going flying with several different batteries (chargers etc) all for just a very few minutes of actual flying . I''ll get mi coat & I do have a lekky Multiplex motorised glider which will virtually fly as long as I want -so there ! Grumpy grounded Myron

When I was about 9 years old every Saturday morning I would go to a shop in Nottingham called Beecrofts . I had 2/6d pocket money and on many occasions bought a pack of "offcuts" of balsa sheet (sometimes two ) costing 11d.I would desgn my own models build and fly them in the field on a slope behind my home .Cutting a very very long story short, I am now 72 and still building.Unfortunately due to such a full life of just about building/rebuilding everything I ever needed (cars/houses/families/you name it )after an initial career as a RR service/performance engineer and then musician/entertainer whilst still modelling (all day off) I am now considering selling up as I am no longer as mobile as I was .Hope you don't mind me rambling on BUT I must say that the happiest times were when I got to grips with the basics of flying the "hard " way .I know for a fact that many forumites have lived similar experiences and that we would all say Good Luck with encouraging your 6 year old with balsa . (PS He will just love the smell of balsa cement as well ) Grumpy Myron
