  1. I appreciate the difficulty in filling a magazine with material for aeromodellers (in its original sense) every month. There is a finite supply of interest as the subject is of little innovative value apart from the RC bit where advancements are of course helping us to improve the basic reason for flying ones own creation,Longer life and more fun at much more realistic prices then ever.Maybe drone flyers will pick up a copy of RCM&E hopefully to discover more of their model flying aspirations if that is the case from the more conventional articles to do with the enthusiasts world (obsession)
  2. Ken We never had "pop rivets" in my hayday ,only proper ones! Happy new year !
  3. More and more concentration on drones/cameras in our mag .Not for me ! Call me old fashioned if you like .
  4. Dave I did say that I wasn't sure =Thanks Kelly Thanks for that (kindred spirit Eh?)
  5. I built all of the Keill Kraft 3s/9d scale kits apart from one I got for Xmas which was a real challenge .Too many stringers and fragile formers if I remember using a s/h razor blade only .Young people don't know what they are missing.
  6. Does anybody remember doing "De-cokes" My first was on a Rover 105 when I was12 years old for a close neighbour who was a professor at Nottingham university & didn't trust garages. He saw me mending/ tuning motorbikes .Those were the days alright !
  7. One aircraft I have built two versions of over the years was the Piper Cub .It probably would fly best with only up aileron (no down) but never tried it !  My first experience of aileron reversal and scary . Edited By Myron Beaumont on 08/01/2016 15:11:12
  8. OK Andy BUT in 1950 all we did was buy some wood ,recycle what we could ,regulations ,organisations to control aeromodelling did not exist in any form .Then if my memory serves me right ,SMAE came about ?
  9. I don't need anyone to tell me how to enjoy my hobby for 62 years .I have passed enough exams where necessary ,I certainly don't want to be "examined" regarding my lifelong hobby. What next Eh!? Grumpy (non nanny state Myron )--Too much beaurocracy redtape RULES & compliance etc.etc  Regretably selling up soon thanks to immobility-Will let you all know when I finally decide . 10. I always thought that cutting out parts was one of the enjoyable aspects of our hobby! How things have changed over my 60 odd years of construction ! Grumpy Myron
  11. Presumably it landed on unprepared ground? Makes you think -what kept something of those dimensions upright without the TO (take off gantries etc )supports .Hmmm?
  12. KC Thanks for that ! I'm fired up ready to be controversial ( as per usual) Tis mi age ! So glad I;ve lived though my inventive generation and not facing the next with all the associated problems created by the "non creators " Grumpy Myron
  13. Oh dear Peter ! Why oh why don't folk like your means of propulsion for which your magnificent designs are meant? Now we are bombarded with incomprehensible motor code numbers/the requirement for a box full of propellors /To going flying with several different batteries (chargers etc) all for just a very few minutes of actual flying . I''ll get mi coat & I do have a lekky Multiplex motorised glider which will virtually fly as long as I want -so there ! Grumpy grounded Myron
  14. When I was about 9 years old every Saturday morning I would go to a shop in Nottingham called Beecrofts . I had 2/6d pocket money and on many occasions bought a pack of "offcuts" of balsa sheet (sometimes two ) costing 11d.I would desgn my own models build and fly them in the field on a slope behind my home .Cutting a very very long story short, I am now 72 and still building.Unfortunately due to such a full life of just about building/rebuilding everything I ever needed (cars/houses/families/you name it )after an initial career as a RR service/performance engineer and then musician/entertainer whilst still modelling (all day off) I am now considering selling up as I am no longer as mobile as I was .Hope you don't mind me rambling on BUT I must say that the happiest times were when I got to grips with the basics of flying the "hard " way .I know for a fact that many forumites have lived similar experiences and that we would all say Good Luck with encouraging your 6 year old with balsa . (PS He will just love the smell of balsa cement as well ) Grumpy Myron
  15. Hmm! No comments eh? Just thought I would resurrect my" grumpy background" image as I was welcomed back by some of you friendly oldies a short while ago .Should I get mi coat? Myron
  16. What happened to AEROMODELLING as the hobby this forum is dedicated to ? .Why not call the magazine RCE& (M) ? ie Radio control electronics (&models)
  17. Ahh memories .When I lived in Vivier Jusseau in the Charente Maritime a few very hot years ago rebuilding a farmhouse,I cycled a couple of miles each day to a lakeside bar where it was cooled by underground water being sprayed on the roof all day .I consumed too many Ricards onr day ,fell off my bike into a field full of tournesols (sunflowers) I lay there for I know not how long with a big smile on my face .Now after losing all that plus bad health I have had to endure the misery of England and am stuck in Yorkshire unable to move far . Hope I have not broken any forum decorums but I feel thankful that I had such a wonderful time there .Plenty of good aeromodelling and hang gliding friends and musicians too .The locat maire got me local gigs as well within a week of his welcoming visit Do I miss it ???
  18. Do what the film makers suggest and watch the reaction of a small sample placed on the iron and follow their destructions Simples.
  19. I was in a group called the Vendors and worked the same club as Joe in Sheffield in the 60s. RIP from Myron
  20. I now have two Fuby Txs now that Frsky Rxs are available since the tranny only has very few model memories.
  21. Perfect ailerons should be about 15% of the chord at any part of the span for obvious reasons(in my opinion). Not possible on real aircraft ,only on models for their type of performance we desire .You could argue that the part of the wing closest to the fuselage ie propwash area might benefit more than the rest of the span by being maybe 20% of the chord for maximum lateral control .Bet this brings in a few comments but basically models are not restricted like Peters scale one is .I suppose that applies to all scale or semi-scale models .
  22. John F Have stopped my card! Ive got McAfee installed Thanks again ,I ll sleep tonight Touch wood
  23. Scruffmeister Cross post - we both thought of the exhaust/tank filter line .
