  1. Slopwork...is that like sloptrash Andy?   Now Now children, play nicely! lol
  2. Thanks Lads, more ideas to mull over lol I'll have to do some more research, I'll see if anyone else comes up with suggestions I was already looking at the Topsky 2 (but thought it was the Kung Fu) and the Baster 2, but I think it'll come down to a choice of the Topsky 2, the Binary 900 or  the Mini Fireworks .... or maybe the Baster ... Decisions, Decisions! lol
  3. Posted by rActive on 14/05/2010 22:37:48: Molded, foam or crunchy?  Idealy carbon / kevlar but the buget would never be passed by SWMBO! The real problem is the choice is so diverse ..... I like the idea of a real floater that I can just chuck into the air without the hassle of bugees or winches Etc. but my chosen mode of travel is a motorbike. I am seriously considering a trailer which would take a 5' wing. Timbo & I were at the Orme recently and we witnessed the Kung Fu being flown and I must say I was impressed, so I think I'm looking for that kinda thing (just collecting ideas at the moment!)
  4. Na, pettit, slim, sexy ....... Oh that can't be right that's PSS lol
  5. Hi Guys, Well I think I am in the market for a DLG! With Summer coming and thermals everywhere it's the way to go! (SWMBO dose not know yet lol). I'm kinda interested in people's thoughts on which dlg models are value for money or one's to stay away from. All answers appreciated. Cheers Marty
  6. Dunno if this thread has died but I have a little input. I got back into RC flying after a long long break and the models and technology has moved on so much ..... So. I just plunged in and bought the Easy Glider Pro c/w brushless motor. (I had flown thermal gliders years ago). Just after I recieved the model I joined my local RC Club. I am lucky to have "Timbo" as my mentor and he checked and maidened my Easy Glider and then said " there you go" and handed me the transmiter, I found the model a hand full under full power as I had to feed in so much down elevater, so thats a thing I would sugest a novice should be ready for, also the wings flex at what I thought was an alarming amount but it wasn't until yesterday when I sloped it at the Orme in 28 - 32 mph (with no balast) that I really saw the wings flex! (thought they were going to clap hands lol). Anyway, the Easy gilder has given me flights of over an hour on one battery on a flat field that has a bank that generates a little lift, (just trickling in a bit of power to gain a bit of hieght now and then). I also bought (an impulse buy) the Xeno flying wing. The model folds in half for transport and It got it's maiden at the Orme yesterday, winds at this stage were 32-36 mph. the model flew straight out the box as it were ... it was very stable but the conrtol throws as suggested are a tad on the small side and which made the model slow in manouvers ... but still great fun .... I pranged it on landing and caused one wing so seperate from the centre section folding box, Not a write off just some TLC, If it were a built up wing it would have been a total. I was also given a Wildthing to "have a go with"  yesterday, the wind by now was measured at 42 MPH  ..... WOW  (even though I was on reduced rates).... I wish I had bought the Wild thing ..... as someone said "the most fun I've ever had with my clothes on" almost covers it........ To Sum up: Easy Glider Pro, a smashing model that is robust and not to difficult to fly but I find that it will drop a wind quite fast if flown to slowly and clims like a home sick angel under power. The Xeno: I very stable but the controls are bit slow. The Wildthing 46: is a MUST HAVE in my opinion, from what I witnessed, its virtually indetructable! after some guys flying combat with them smashed into the deck they just scooped the guts back in, slapped on some tape and relaunched for another round! This was more punishment than a novice could give it!
  7. A very  long time ago there was a set of free plans in RCM&E for the Corsair which if memory serves was a shoulder wing IC trainer. I was wondering if anybody still has a set of these plans? Thanks in advance Marty
  8. Thanks for the posts lads. The major problem I have is a by-product of my job! I work month on month off at sea. I have no off road parking and can't justify having a car sitting around doing nothing except using up insurance and road tax for six month! Not to mention the deteriation due to the salt air here on Anglesey, oh and the vandalism! Soooooooo ...... I ride my 1100cc bike. Unfotunately Phil, I live in an end of terrace with only a narrow footpath as access to the back so a third wheel is a no-go aswell   This is the state of play at the moment: I have sourced a 8 x4 sheet of 5mm foamex which is stronger than correx for £35, I intend to make a box with the inside of the corners re-enforced with beading which I will glue and screw. The model will slide in from one end over which I will have an end cap held on with velcro strips. If anyone can see any pitfalls please shout out.
  9. I had thought about a trailer but I'm restricted on strorage space! I'm curious why you mention two swinging arms? a trailer hitch need to be attached to the frame or somewhere, the usual methed is to make a tube frame which goes from the frame - around the back mudguard - back to the frame on the other side. The Ball hitch is then mounted on the rearmost part of the frame. (if you understand that PM me your number and I'll call you to explain. M
  10. Eric, you said you'd post photos a year ago... still waiting lol
  11. Hi everybody, I raised this subject last year out of general interest but now I really need to do this! I need to build a transprt box to carry models on my motorbike. It has been suggested elsewhere that I could use Corex which is the lightweight board that estate agents use fro their signs. any input appreciated. Marty
  12. Hi Eric, thanks for that m8. are you local to Holyhead? Also interested in seeing your carrier.
  13. Timbo, thanks for all that info M8 sorry I haven't answered before but me and the ball and chain spent the weekend in a log cabin (read shed) in mid wales! I think you are probably right about the Rhyl Club but I may aswell wait until after December as the Subs are renewed then I believe. I had a little giggle thinking about Model meets full size at Valley!...it's unfortunate that they aren't takeing new members as that would have been perfect for me! Oh well.......  I'm in the process of wading through all the posts to get a feel for all the stuff there is available and also there are posts which are answering my questions which I sure will save the "older hands" having to answer the same inane  quiries over and over. But... the latest thing to modeling when I was in it before was Nicad, what's LiPo?
  14. The Club at Valley is part of the RAF or so I'm lead to believe and I've been told that they don't allow "Civvies" to join which made me a little miffed as I served 12 years with the "Colours" in the good old days when you could shout at people without having a court order! But I digress. If anybody has contact details for Valley I would appreciate it. Rhyl is a bit of a distance but doable, does the club have a field? I'm interested in electric soarers? A bit tongue in cheek its a long way to carry black plastic bags of "bits" back! My last model was the "Pupiteer" which I pranged to a total write off on it's maiden flight on Epsom race course. The guys there said it's a good idea to fly with the boot open and if you get into trouble you just fly straight into the boot! It doesn't diminish any damage but it saves you picking up the bits. Model shops seem to be in short supply in this corner of the world, there was acouple in Bangor but they just disapeared.....
  15. Hi Guy's and thankyou for the welcome! I'm not actively modeling at the moment but in the exploritory stage. (most of my spare time is spent with my airbrush). In the past I flew ic trainers, the first was a "Kiel Kraft" something or other, (memoryis faded with age it  was two channel and I ended up in the late 70's with a Graupner "Maxi" ....then a strange thing happened, I discovered sailplanes and fell in love with them. I flew a Colt slope soarer but my all time favourite was my Cambria "Miri". If I become active again I'm interested in an electric power assisted sailplane. I live in Holyhead, N. Wales. There are a few clubs which are a couple of hours away that I know about but I am a "Biker" and I don't have a car so travelling with a model is bit awkward.  this is the main reason I haven't got back into flying before.  I wont bore you any more except to say that joining any forum can be a bit intimidating so thanks again for the welcome and I'm sure we will chat in the future. All the best Marty
  16. Hi everyboby, Just writting this to say hello and say that although I was a modler a long time ago, technology has moved!  I'm looking forward to reading and exchanging ideas. Regards. Marty
