  1. Two photo's in my album for you to look at. They were taken today 18-03-09.  With no wind Take off was a little harder and I broke a prop on the first launch but with a cheap GWS prop bolted on was soon airborne again. The APC prop has far more power but once away the little orange 8x4 was ok. I find trimming out the pitch difficult but am having great fun with this model. I am going to glass and resin the underside of the fuselage as I have a few deep scratches already. I stooged around all afternoon but no Corsairs came my way! Keep watching your mirrors ENGLANDER! Hope you like das fotos.     andy.
  2. Phil said "That has worked out really well Andy well done mate here's hoping it flies as well as it looks."   IT SURE DOES!!!   Successful maiden with 2 follow up sorties. It flies really nicely indeed. With a wind of about 7 mph it bobbled around a little in the gusts but  apart from that is was a delight. It is stable from the moment it is thrown into the air and appears to not want to tipstall too readily on landing. I was  worried about having so little elevator throw at only 5mm but it is fine for now, loops and rolls were easily flown.   The towerpro bell motor only gives 120w but with a 8x4 apc electric prop, NOT a GWS ,  it cruises around nicely at half throttle and has near vertical climb performance with a bit more left thumb! I let a friend have the second sortie and he's so impressed he is on his laptop as you read this selecting which one to buy. Well done GWS and heres hoping I win the P40! Cheers Mr Ashby.   andy.
  3. two coats of acrylic and one of varnish. Next time I'll cut around the decals. Thanks for the advice Phil.
  4. I've just reweighed it and there appears to be no increase in weight at all so I think a second coat should be fine. I'll attach a piccy once that is done.
  5. From what I have read on the web the P-51 and 109 are very elevator sensitive and 6mm elevator (up and down) throw is more than adequate. (GWS say 6-12mm).   Having brushed the 109 I am not too happy with the finish after 1 coat but am reluctant to keep throwing more and more paint on as I am worried about the weight. Am I worrying too much?  I'll see if I can post a piccy of it later this evening.
  6. Phil, my 109 is almost ready. I have given it a brushed acrylic paintjob. one quick question though. Do I put the decals on after or before the varnish coat?   I reinforced weak areas with lightweight glasscloth and finishing resin. with a bell motor and a 1300 3s battery the c of g came out spot on at 60mm without adding any weight and it weighed just 400g before painting. heres hoping for a safe maiden! ( It does look/ feel a bit delicate) andy
  7. roughly       10mm elevator                      10mm ailerons                       lots of rudder!
  8. As  for the 6i date code issue, my tranny does not have a date sticker but passes the test smoothly. ( I will retry it as someone told me you have to do it VERY slowly) I wish to fly helis and fixed wing on the phoenix. Initially I had a fixed wing setup on the tranny but as I had no throttle curves set Helis were virtually unflyable. I then changed the phoenix model on the tranny to be a heli. I then had flyable helis but no GEAR on the fixed wing with retracts!!  I will have to have a play with the setup within Phoenix because I do not want to commit 2 of the 10 models to phoenix. Thanks for the help.     andy
  9. Timbo, Thanks for the quick reply. I have recently set up the tranny (so that I could fly helis on Phoenix) and that indeed has been the problem. I had tried moving  the flt normal switches with no success. However, I've tried again and am now a happy chappy once more as the problem has disappeared   I had  googled the problem with no success so well done to you and Thanks once again. andy
  10. My 2 month old DX6i has a problem.  When I switch it on it bleeps frantically and the phrase "*-*-* F. MODE *-*-*"  flashes on the screen.   Does anyone know of this problem and does anyone know of a cure?   I converted it to take a rechargeable battery so am not easily able to  remove power fully without taking the back off for a second time and un-soldering the connnections.   Many thanks,    Andy.   PS I intend to return it to my LMS but thought I would ask on here first.
  11. £10.26 for a dremel clone. I've never had one before so cannot compare it , but at £10 i thought it was worth a punt. it is 18v and spins at up to 20k, speed is variable and it comes with 40 tools. and a carry case as well!!
  12. Phil, first let me say what a fantastic looking model. I have not used Poly C before but did use some tissue many years ago. (Doping a glider in my bedroom which had no windows to open!). I digress, I see you used 4 coats of polyC.Then paint and then varnish. Does this add to the weight significantly? Do you think it is lighter/ stronger than a single coat of very light glass and finishing resin? (which i have in the cupboard). which it seems you have used previously. Is the Poly C the stuff you use for floors or is it model specific? and what weight tissue did you use. I also do not have a spraygun so will have to handpaint. I have a GWS 109 to do in the spring. I have used GC in the past and been pleased with them but have not yet finally chosen a motor. how many watts do you think you'll be pulling? cheers andy
  13. no, it pitches up like billy o!    i believe a lot of leccy gliders do this.  maybe a touche too much wattage at the front end.
  14. I have a GWS Me 109 to construct and am looking at options on the powertrain. I have read a few threads on various forums and I am seriously considering the Tower Pro 2408-21. It does seem small and also very cheap but most people seem to say it is just fine. Have any of you used this motor in a GWS warbird? I am not looking for a supersonic foamie, just a nicely powered  aeroplane. What motors are you using? I would also like to know what size battery you are using  and what size prop you are turning. As I fly off grass I was considering leaving the gear off and using a foldingprop. I have also read that glassing foamies is a good way to extend their life expectancy. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Thanks in advance, andy.
  15. Just as a follow up to Timbo's post. i put in a 920Kv  2820 from Giantcod up front is a 12 x 6.5 aeronaut folding prop followed by a 3s 2250 lipo. i open up the throttle, throw it level, apply a fair amount of down elevator and watch it disappear! it climbs very well indeed!!  andy
  16. a good excuse for me to fly on sunday then. my batteries need running down a bit!
  17. Is it ok to field charge up to full on a cold day? i normally store my liPo's indoors but they get charged in a cold garage. is this wise?  and finally..... i flew a leccy glider the other day , over 20 mins flight from one climb up to 600', from what i am reading that is not good practice in the cold. i guess the air temp at 600' would have been approx -2 deg c.
  18. hi there , i have recently purchased Phoenixrc and have updated to version 2q. i have used multiplayer a couple of times and it has worked fine. i do have trouble connecting though.( i realise that passworded sessions are not available). on many other sessions though i am still unable to join in. it this to do with the port settings. ( i am using the auto setting) or do people generally just not like me. cheers andyh
  19. i've crashed about £3000 so far and its only cost me £80. pretty good value i thinks! i like it. the multiplayer is great fun but i have had a few connection problems with some sessions . having not flown any of the other big name sims i am not really able to give a fair comparison but is was recommended to me by someone who is a top rate flyer. well, he says he is!!!!! sorry STAN.
  20. i am using phoenix successfully on a dell vista laptop. the laptop is a 6400 inspiron so not high spec. i only bought the phoenix recently and the disk is the 1.5j version. i have updated to version 2 from the website, and this is very good. However, i borrowed an older version of phoenix last year and when i updated that to 1.5j it ground to a halt. i reinstalled 1.4 at accepted that  was all my laptop was good for. however, as i said earlier, i decided to have a go with my 1.5j disk, found it was ok and then tried vesion 2 . why i do not know. hth  andy
  21. only joking , i was just throwing hand grenades. sorry Jonathan.
  22. well done. Both my son and I learnt to fly on our Boomie and I have to say I think they fly very well . We fly off grass and it behaves better with 3" wheels rather than the ones provided. The weak points of the Boomie are the nosewheel which does not like being straightened too many times and the covering which will begin to fall away with age. My one had a few prangs but even with a bent tail and a rebuilt nose it soldiered on. it looks as if you have a 46la up front which i would say is ideal. if i remember correctly i flew mine with less throw than recommended , especially elevator, as it was too twitchy for a trainer. and one final thing, once youve passed your A and got your green ticket in your hand, you can fly inverted and do some nice barrel rolls to the envy of your pals with their Rolls Royce Tutor 40s. as for a second model, i like my travel air.
