  3. Posted by Colin Leighfield on 04/03/2016 20:41:42: This is a great build Glyn, a real pleasure to watch. You must be getting a lot of satisfaction from this one. Glad you are enjoying the build, I am really impressed with the advantages of using laser cut detail parts. There is still a lot of real building to be done. The plan has no real detail, so I am enjoying working things out and modifying where I feel necessary. This stage is very satisfying.
  4. Posted by john stones 1 on 04/03/2016 20:27:03: Looking good Glyn, looks like the weight will be good as well Thanks John I hope the weight and balance turn out OK. The original model had a 25cc glow 4 stroke. I want to use the 26cc petrol so the overall weight should be OK.
  5. I am pleased with the way the wing turned out. My masking tape and angle iron method seems to work. The ribs are all fully bonded and no lumps or bumps. I am now fitting the servo box and the webs.

  7. I want o be able to offer up the wings before I skin the rest of the fuse. So here are the first stages. The build calls for the inner former to be set at a 93 degree angle so the wing top is flat once on the plane. I like to sand the covering before fitting to reduce the amount of finishing after construction. I use a random orbit palm sander for this task. This sheet is 31/2 four inch sheets edge bonded and then cut to shape. Showing the scale of the wing. The cutting guide is 24". A trial fit of the wing covering. I will tape the front edge rather like joining flat sheets to make a hinge for gluing in place, The lengths of angle iron are great at keeping the whole thing flat.

  13. I have been working on skinning the fuse. I came across a good tip for curving balsa. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yV4UHMPVsYo I have been using Windolene. Spray the balsa both sides clamp in place and leave to dry. Trim to shape and glue. The balsa softens enough to really bend in about 5 minutes. The grey area is the canopy frame. With built in dashboards yet to have dials fitted. I intend to shape and paint the undercarriage. Just have the section from the power pod to the cockpit rear to do now. The rear open area will be fabric of some sort. Edited By Glyn R on 28/02/2016 11:55:33 Edited By Glyn R on 28/02/2016 11:58:53
  14. I am using heavy duty snakes. The real issue wth snakes is to anchor the outer in lots of places so that it can't bend under load. The outer is clipped to every dowel down the outside edge that is about every 5cm. Also each snake is only working half of the elevator. The rudder is pull/pull. Let's hope I am right.😡
  15. Just a couple of pics before I start skinning the fuse. The servo tray will probably hold the Rx. I bought an 8 channel DSMX AR8000 from Inwoods ebay store. All the rear snakes are in place I have not cut the rear end of the elevator outers yet I will do that after skinning The space frame will soon be invisible.
  16. More bureaucratic rubbish. This has already been introduced in the US. It will become another means of controlling the population. It will not be free who will pay for the useless parasites who operate the system? We will!
  17. Posted by jrman on 09/02/2016 17:47:53: JR and Spektrum have "Model Match" that prevents the model being operated if the wrong memory is selected. Other sets may also have this feature.   Edited By jrman on 09/02/2016 17:53:53 Edited By jrman on 09/02/2016 17:54:09 I changed to Spektrum for just this feature. Using my Sanwa RD6000 I was taxiing for take off when noticed my rudder was reversed. I went to the LMS and ordered a DX6i. Never had to worry about this since. I am amazed that other top brands don't use it. Spektrum must have the patent well sewn up. Edited By Glyn R on 09/02/2016 19:33:01
  18. I just had a count up my channel usage. Ailerons 2 Elevators 2 Rudder 1 Throttle 1 Choke 1 Engine kill switch 1 I will have 2 batteries a 2300mah 6 volt Nimh for the Rx and a 2300mah 4.8 volt Nimh for Ignition. The CDI unit will not take a fully charged 6 volt Nimh which is about 7.5 volts. The servos need the extra power for reliable speed and power.
  19. The wiring at present is made up of a series of short extensions. This makes is simple to try various routings. A bag of cheap cable ties help fix the location.   I will of course make up long single extensions to tidy up this birds nest. I found out that I will need an 8 channel Rx to operate all the functions I have planned. The one shown is only 6 channel. I am using Corona digital metal gear servos with about 5kg torque at 6volts. 20. At this stage I decided to look at the wiring before access became difficult. I have also fixed the pull/pull guides. The elevator snakes are in a temporary fixing.
