Thanks for suggestions one and all
Don't think it was fowl play, I believe he had a lot of wind on the day or maybe caterwauling high speed Siameses
Duck is laughing so much he may break the other leg

No doubt about it modern printed RCM&Es have much worse eye appeal than those in older RCM&Es.
So my observations tend to support a general cheapening of paper, printing technology and care.
Some magazines are still printed on excellent paper with excellent photos e.g. BonsaiFocus
The RCM&E decline does seem to match other declining magazines such as that produced by the RHS.
The cheap paper/printing is not helped by the really daft design "feature" of printing very small greyish text on photographic and generally coloured backgrounds.

Don't forget that AI is neither artificial nor intelligent
Lets call it DC (dumb code) written by people who don't know how to write bug free code (no one does)
The main object as far as I can see initially is to separate customers even further from real people in the business
Golly just imagine Doctors using "DC" to triage their patients, you could have your appendix out without seeing a real person, bad news if you just have a sprained ankle
It is also worth remembering that the law is on the side of computers they are presumed right in the absence of any other evidence.
Tell that to the wrongly accused post masters.
Doom - the end is nigh!

Un-controllability and harry-crashers.
In a full size glider I used to set the CG position 1 inch forward of the aft limit. This gave sensitive controllability
and nice flying for experienced pilots.

IMHO My test of any proposal is to see if I can explain it to my Siamese cats in at most two small sentences.
If I cant do this (and they are very intelligent cats), then I have to conclude that the proposal is of no practical use. Is probably full of loose ends and inconsistencies that will continue over time to be a total nuisance.
All of the rules and regs that we are inundated with seem to be of little practical use. They are in general invented by so called "civil servants" with little experience in what they are legislating about, we also are made to pay for the "benefit" of all this unnecessary work.
My comment does not just apply to model flying.
Anyway when one of these proposals are made everyone forums about what does it means and what is missing. However as I see it the fundamental question is why do we need it at all?

The banks have shut virtually all their branches, some "services" given over to the Post Office (that does not do a very good job of it)
Bank share dividends are a fraction of what they were "n" years ago
They are trying to do away with Physical money completely, this must be resisted strongly as there are many dangers hidden away there. Use cheques and cash as much as possible.
All of it created by dumb directors who get ever bigger salaries and pensions, for bigger and worse mistakes??
My approach is to punish banks as much as possible. Other than a current account, I have moved all financial matters to other institutions.
Why do clubs need "paid for" bank accounts? What about PO savings accounts or other non bank resources? We need to think in non traditional ways about this.

Was there ever a plan for this twin?

If one uses the pinning with wooden toothpicks technique there is no need for glue at all.
And the joints can be unpinned for covering and any needed maintenance
-
No need to over complicate matters
Judicious boot-fulls of rudder is the best control for this and zero messing with ailerons until model is actually in the air

Well I am not being negative, just straight forward
Not only is the presentation now very dull and the print almost unreadable without strong light
One should also remember that not very long ago each issue was about 130/140 pages and there were 13 issues per year, remember the specials?
The page count and issues have reduced significantly and the price has rocketed up
The new format seems to be for the owners not the readers benefit perhaps the owners wear special glasses
Once upon a time RCM&E was run by aero-modelers for modelers! Can we set the clocks back please

Can't help much with the actual question, but would observe that I have nothing stored online. For myself everything, emails, data, recovery disk etc are all kept locally. Regular backups are stored at another family location.
Anything outside your immediate control is at risk.
Even locally is a risk. Some years ago I had a PC power supply problem that fried my two hard drives. Got new power supply and hard drives and within a short time had everything restored and running like nothing had happened
I appreciate this does not help your present situation but may be worth consideration as you are going forward.
I hope it all gets resolved OK for you quickly!

Not only is the text smaller, they are still printing small black text on dark coloured backgrounds!! See Page 35.
This does not add readability or have any artistic benefit. it has been known for centuries that the maximum contrast is best (ie black on white of a sensible size)
The only purpose of magazines, newspapers etc is to be comfortably read
Look at magazines from the 70s through early 2010 for readability.
Perhaps the graphic artists or whatever are not taught that the customer wants to read it. The only purpose of the layout/design people is to allow the story to reach the customer in the clearest possible way,. Anything else is deliberate, purposeful obscuration.

The Can-Doo article is 2013 December Page 64. There is a copy on eBay. Probably there is a copy in the digital archive

IMHO the best solution is to get an old version of W7 SP2 install that and lock it down so it cant update. And of course run a good firewall and good anti-virus etc just as you would have to with W11. My W7 has been locked down for 15+years with never a sign of problems. I also run Office 2010
Updates no matter what the manufacturer says are just more bad code else why do they keep coming. W10 was meant to be the best... hmm. Why do the updates keep changing the user interface? hmmm....
They call them security updates just to make the user feel that they are critical.
No one knows how to write bug free code, even 100 lines worth, let alone the millions in W11 🙂

I have used MacWet gloves for years, warm, wet proof and with good feel through them.
Possibly a bit expensive but what would you pay when your hands are numb and you want them warm again

Perhaps RCM&E might re-introduce 'SPECIAL' issues that have been missing for some years now.
And featuring some of Peter's many articles and plans.

My oldest Rxs are about 20 years old and as already indicated
A working old one may be more reliable than a new one
