Going old school
edwards flyboy replied to Andy Butler's topic in Gliders and Gliding - General Discussion
Funny how things seem to happen all at once I had a built and covered Sonata E . hanging up in the shed ,this was finished to ARTF. It must have been more than 15 years ago . I recently glued it all together and it looks great,Now then what to replace that speed 600 eith i,m sure the nce point will be interesting as the lipo can go right behind yhe motor, will keep you posted -

How long do HobbyKing normally take to deliver from HK to UK?
edwards flyboy replied to Redstorm's topic in Beginners
2 TO 4 WEEKS IS NORMAL. I FIND THAT YOUR ORDER CAN BE STOPPED BY CUSTOMS IF YOU PAY FOR A QUICK DELIVERY. THIS USUALLY ADDS £20 TO YOUR COST. -
not only is the price high but the latest fuel turning up at our site stinks as if it was recycled chipshop oil well burnt at that, it gets the back of my thrat every time i go flying.

edwards flyboy replied to edwards flyboy's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
My super sixteee has been completed for some time now ,and has been flown many times It created a lot of interest. at the Chester clubs fly -in. This model has turned out to be a real gem,it will fly in all weather conditions, handles very well on rudder elevator and throttle only .It is built exactly to Ben Buckle,s plan. The only changes made was to the front formers in order to bring the prop to the same potition as it would be with an IC engine.the front decking before the windscreen is a removable hatch. The power train is a Turigy 36-42 motor 60 amp controller ads a 4000 3s lipo-lightmax on a 12x6 APC prop.Colour is see thru gold and matt blue solarfilm yes matt, what a performer and a fly anywhere model,im fact it flew at the Rhyl fun fly on Sunday. BRILLIANT. -

Super sixty
edwards flyboy replied to edwards flyboy's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
the super sixty is progressing very well. I now have a basic airframe on the bench just needs finishing off ,bits and pieces such as skid and a planked hatch for the nose end.I also need to make a wire u/cart, then the good bits covering and finishing. .The power train is as follows. Motor is Hi Model 2814-8,1000KV from BRC, £27. Hi Model 40amp controller BRC, again £ 25. The draw is estimated at about 30amps 35 tops on a 12 x 6 prop.So any battery pack 3s of 2000 upwardsshoud be ok. This is yet to be tried on a wattmeter but i dont see any problems. J.R. radio on 2.4 using 2 std servos. A photo or 2 may come later, but my P.C. skills are not that great. My Son says it should be no more difficult than my computer radio and i have no problems with that. THIS ONE IS 3 CHANNEL AS PER THE ORIGIONAL.. More to come as i progress. -
Wot 4 Weight
edwards flyboy replied to jonathan harper's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
O.K Steve. 1/4 sq spars and t/edge . 1/8 false lead/edge with1/16 sheeting. 1 inch t/edge 1/16 thick over t/edge spar and 1/4 inch by 1/16 balsa capstrips. 1/4 inch leading edge .Ribs 1/8 balsa 3 inch spacing i like to put 6 ribs in the centre 1 inch apart for strength and use no brace.1.1/4 inch by 3/8t/edge stock for ailerons and center section 3/16 for the wingtips, use your assumptions for d/box etc, i have built quite a few wings using this method with no failures to date . the wing can be built in one piece as it is only 48 inch span with 2 inch tips making 52 inch. -
I am just starting this . Wings are on the board , it will be as per plan, with engine bay moded to take brushless motor. will update as progress is made.

Wot 4 Weight
edwards flyboy replied to jonathan harper's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
Foam wings aint wot they used to be. apparently the vaneer is impossible to get in the quality needed for good wing covering . the stuff they get now has a wide deep grain and shows through solarfilm. filler is not much use either. the best bet is the glass cloth and paint finish or make your own builtup version. -
am just starting a buckle version and it is a 2 wheeler
