  1. The supplied from with the gliderman was too big, about 17 by 13 or something stupid, would pos be OK on 3 cell but 4 would draw crazy current. A 13 by7 or so should be OK on 4 cells. Still have mine unflown due to general lazy ness on my part but hoping to get it going soon.
  2. Used to be spektrum but now frsky taranis, not had a single plane drop out of the sky since-touch wood!!!
  3. A question, I admit to not having bmfa insurance but wonder if I got it would I be covered where I fly anyway, I use a school football field and fly mostly dlg and 2m foamie gliders, I do not have permision from the school, indead I remember seeing a sign saying no rc models no dogs no motor bikes but everyone walks their dogs there and kids often ride motor bikes around, the school sports instructor has seen me many times and never complained and does not seem to mind at all. KNowing this would the bmfa insurance be invalid anyway?
  4. Bit late but I just found this, As has been said b4 masking tape is good, I wrap the servo in masking tape then super glue it in the wing and tape over the top if a really strong bond is needed job done! Then to get it out is easy, just cut the masking tape with a knife and take out servo then peel off tape that is left in wing. I use this in my dlg blaster moulie wing and it's never come off yet!
  5. Servo/servoless retracts failure causing brownout on spektrum rx is the only thing to cause a crash lately with me, in early days then pilot error and then poor building ie linkages etc. Point being that I now check everything regularly so as no to get caught out inc battery capacities, the only thing I cannot check is wether a servo is about to fail or not.
  6. Rolls feel more naturnal to the left for some reason but again can do both but my slow rolls are definitely better to the left, but that is probably just cause thats the way I started, but I think the brain generally likes left over right for some strange reason!
  7. Either way for circuits, thermal circuits depend on the plane as some turn better right and others turn better left. When learning I turned left automatically and found left easier for a while until I settled. However landing I prefere right to left but again I can do either and dont really think about it, just do whatever the conditions demand. I am right handed and fly mode 2.
  8. 46 and been back into this hobby for about 5 years, spent a couple of years in my teens but like most just other things took over. lipos and brushless motors got me back into it along with epp and epo foam making things much safer and easier and quieter. Funily enough I use none of those things now as I am hooked on dlg gliders which only need a good throw and then a good pilot to stay up for ages and cant be made from foam apart from a few small ones which are not all that good.
  9. D.L.G. discus launch gliders are by far my favourite, I fly powered gliders next, and then warbirds and then paturn and then 3d, speed is fun but only really for a few minutes and then for me it gets boring. I can fly warbirds and 3 d etc for 1/2 hour or so then get bored, powered glider I can stant for 1 to 2 hours at most, but DLG I can and have frequently done 4 hours strieght, 1 and 1/2 hours goes by in a flash.
  10. only have a dx6i so 10 models ready to fly. Got another 10 that could be flown if I get another tx lol. Just bough a second hand blaster 2 after getting a hlg bug a while ago and getting the bug for hlg gliders so really looking forward to the blaster. Rest of planes are mixture of warbirds, 3d and powered gliders. Really need to sell some planes though cant fly em all, mist of the time cant fly any cos of crappy weather lmfao.
  11. finger and thumb both sticks, no neck strap for me. However when flying 3d planes I in the hover and extreme manauvers I use thumbs only as I can move them faster and futher. When I fly gliders I use a mixture of both - thumbs for just lazy cruising and fnt for landing and thermalling or whenever I need precise control. When flying warbirds and precision aerobatics I use finger and thumb as this gives me more precise control. Helis would be fingers and thumbs too! I was taught by a competition flyer and he imediatly corected me when I started using thumbs at the beginning and its stuck, my mates all use thumbs and refuse to change and though I say it myself my flying is smoother and more precise than theirs.
  12. update to above, thought someone might find it interesting, my tipples are now only just flying my heli for around 3 to 4 mins and are very weak on power only just enough to fly slow scale, and are definatly dying, so 2 years lifespan then, not bad for a cheap lipo. My a123 lifpo4 1100mah packs I made from £1.50 cells from ebay are still putting out 800mah on the abused packs for rc car which get cycled hard right down to empty and the packs I use for flying which get a slightly easier life still have 850mah and are still as punchy as a new pack. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  13. had my loongmax tipples 800mah 2 cell a year now, and although they still deliver enough punch to fly my glider and helicopter almost as well as they did when they were new, the capacity has dropped significantly, I am now putting back around 260mah fast charge from 3.8v start. just dropped one down to 3.70v and charged it took 370mah. I think this is ok for price of battery and to still be flying ok on them meens they are still useful, however I really like a123 batts, had them over a year and really abused them and still putting in 800mah in, these started at 850 from new! @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  14. Just though I'd share my further experience with loongmax tipples, made a huge mistake today first time ever I blame it on being overtired as not had much sleep for about 3 weeks. I pluged 3 loongmax tipples and 1 turnigy nano 2 cells in paralell total mah 3800mah and set to charge at 3amps. went back a bit later to check and cells were at 4.56v each, charger was still set at 3cell a123 and was still putting in 3amps! I imediately stopped charging and set about discharging them, however the cells were stone cold no swelling had occured and still work perfectly, had these been normal lipos there would have been a fire! These lipos seem to be much more stable then the old ones and thank god they are! another lesson learnt, don't charge lipos when overtired! and check check check settings!
  15. I have 3 tipples and they seem very good 2 800mah 2 cell 1 1000mah 2 cell, I fly them i esky heli and 2m powered glider and charge at 2c generaly, but after gliding i paralel charge them to save messing about, but yesterday one cell wasnot connected properly and took no charge untill I pushed it in accidentaly after realising balance charge was strugling and so I basically connected an 3.77v charged cell to two paraleled cell charged at  4.2v and then the balance started working better, at which point I thought better unplug everything and check what was going on. the cells were way out oof balance the worst being the one that was not plugged in, it was at 3.98v and 4.2v and i thought it looked slightly swelled, but after leaving over night in the garage and carefully balance charging the next day all the batteries seem fine so I think these cells can stand some abuse, I wonder how many amps went into the cell to get it from 3.77 to 3.98v in the space of about 10 seconds  it took me to realize and unplug them?
