  1. Hiya JayCee and guys - its a bit off -topic but the FunCub is a great plane for one really good reason - Its got great flaps that make a hell of a difference to your flying!!. Bring the FC in for landing and at about 20-30ft in the air flip the Flaps on and The FC comes down like its in an elevator, brilliant. And it will take off from a picnic table top! But it does need about 300+Watts to get the most out of it. Definately recommmded pal!!! Have to go, flying tomorrow, forecast is for 3 degrees C, but no wind. Because I'm disabled i really field the cold. One advantage of being in an electric w/chair is I've modified the battery system to charge my lipos
  2. JayCee....I have that 3542 motor (Giantcod) but its the 1000kv version. Its been used just a few times in the Wot4 and its a perfect fit, it clears the foam by just about 2-3mm, its as if it was made to fit. The Watt meter readings were 370W and 32A so I fitted a GC 40A esc but this will change as soon as the new one arrives (50A). We reckon it can now be 'launches' by holding the fuse just in front of the tail and just push it skywards with almost full power. I've tries a 12 and 13inch prop but settled on an 11 x 7 but will experiment with different sizes. Lipo is and always will be 2200 Zippy Flightmax from HobbyKing at only £4.28....!!!!!! I can't find a lipo anywhere in the UK at that price. Sure the shipping is expensive but myself and 2 others split that cost. Good luck. By the way, the original 3536 motor is now sitting in a FunCub and again, its a perfect fit and choice. .
  3. Hiya guys....here's a video of my pal Steve with his Wot4 - afterthe repais!!!! His dad Bryan was flying it and then nothing, no control or anything. Until yesterday we thought it was the Esc or RX but now we Know there is a Helicopter cub just over hill and we are now blaming it on intefereence from a 35mhz TX of theirs. Bryan and Steve use 35mhz Futaba but not for long - its 2.4 from now on. Steve's Wot4 watt meter readings were 268W and 22A draw on an Overlander 2200 3s and the stock prop. My Wot4 motor is now in a FunCub but the readings are similar. But if you want a bit more power my set-up is the XYH 3542 (GiantCod) Turnigy clone and thats 370W and 25A draw.....!!! What a difference. Almost continuous verticals, takes ofin 3 ft. and low passes are very, very fast!! But you'll see on the vid Bryan (he's never had a crash) flying in a 20mph wind when everyone else was packing to go home. I can put up with a few small flaws for a plane that flies like that. Every ARTF plane I've had (and there's loads) has had some teething problems but these can be repaired easily - call it 'development') http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCM-mJ5ZSAs
  4. Hiya guys....here is the motor I put in my Wot4, from GiantCod. Its a Turnigy clone that goes under the name of XYH, just the same as turnigy just a different name!!! I was asked by a pal in our E-Mail Club (Badius Boyz) to test some servos. He sent me 10 E-Max 8/9grm servos from Japan free of charge. I put them all in my planes, from FunCub, EasyCub, SlowSticks etc etc......and not one has let me down. They don't 'chatter', vibrate etc. And now they are sold at Robotbirds. The standard one is about 3£.50, Digital is £4.50 and the metal geared version £5 - they are the best I have ever used. Here is the motor: http://www.giantcod.co.uk/xyh3542-1100kv-brushless-outrunner-p-403782.html I'm using a no-name ESC of 40A until my new one arrives which is 50A and programmableEdited By David Ashby - RCME Administrator on 01/12/2010 13:04:59
  5. Stephen G....You are right, you don't have to use the flaps to get a good flight, but they do make it 'interesting'......its a pity the Wot4 hasn't got flaps!!!!   JayCee....I can't start another thread cos I'm retired and too busy!!! I got more time to myself when I was working. When I got septic arthritis 3 years ago and couldn't walk i was told by wifey I needed a Hobby - now she moans about all the planes in the bedroom and the cost of the sport. But my next door neighbour bought a new fishing rod for £1000.....he daren't tell his wife. Bye for now.....
  6. Steve Grigg....The FunCub is a different kind of beast thanks to the flaps!!! With a big motor (350+Watts) it could in theory tak offrom a picnic table and then land back on it. When te flaps are deployed at over 100ft. it looks like its coming down in a elevator, and when the wind is over 10mph its possible to hold the plane suspended in flight, push the throttle and off it zooms!!! I wouldn't say its a trainer cos of the ailerons and flaps but  novice could fly it with a qualified instructor next to them. Its nice......   JayCee - whats this formula you have for converting i.c. planes to leccy? I just use the '100W to the lb.' formula plus a bit more (lot more?). Reason I'm asking is that I have a plan-built (RCME plans) Bushwacker nitro plane I need to convert.. What does your formula say when this plane is about 2ib. in weigh? Any help is good hepl......Byeee.....
  7. Jay-Cee....no, No-one has flown it with the new motor yet, only put it in the other day!!! And yes, the planedid come down without crashing - Bryan was flying.   Doesanybody on here live or fly in the Glasgow or Edinburgh areas, cos we have a great small club (30 members) and looking for more. Its very laid back and about 50% leccy flyers.   I tried to join some therclubs but their rules state: Yes we will give you instruction free BUT we have to do it with nitro panes. Thats not for me, I'm leccy thru and thru....   Byeee guys.........   PS: I'm English but living in Glasgow.......Hoots mon the nooo.....
