Hi Peter Looking more closely at your model (& the others here), it appears that the struts have been modded, is this now standard?. When I had mine they were about 32 gauge wire with a hook at one end & a crank at the other. Both fitted into about 3/32 plywood lugs. They caused a lot of headache & damage when they failed in level flight on the maiden & it tore it`s own wing off on landing. Still prefer my Dynam, but the Guanli did fly well, esp. at low speeds (have to be careful if attempting a very low speed turn in the Dynam - will tip stall, keep up the speed a bit & is very nice. It`ll poodle around at less than half power & tear up the sky at full power - which looks rather silly ;o) . Will add differential to the aileron when I get around to it (should cure the low speed stall issue) & aim to add independent motor control for easy taxying on water. Would also love nav lights on it. Cheers, Greg. -
Hi If you want a Catalina then take a good look at the Dynam version. I`ve had the GuanLi version & compared to the Dynam it is just rubbish. If you want a truthfull review of either of these please let me know. To wet your apetite look at my repainted Dynam example, this plane is VERY good scale, tough, powerfull & takes off & lands from grass,snow or water. Look for it on youtube.

I had one of these too, also needed many mods from the off just to make airworthy, sort of. Fragile hull, weak struts (putting it mildly!), very unreliable electronics. Now have a Dynam Catalina (repainted RAF), no comparison, utterly better,FAR stronger, more scale,powerfull, EPO etc.. Well worth the extra money, GuanLi not for me, buy Dynam.

Hi I had one of these (with brushless motors), have to say it did fly very well, with the undercambered wing almost down to walking pace in a slight headwind. However,on the first flight the wing bracing wires stripped off mid air ( in normal flight!) then the reciever was found to have a stupidly short range, nursed back to strip then a gentle landing & the wing rotated & tore off the pylon. Changed reciever & glued alloy strips across inside of fuselage to attach to new struts with metal clevises, much better. Added white fablon to underside to protect hull a little. Is to date however, the only model I have completely written off, one motor went into reverse!!! at altitude (not a clue how), & it threw itself out of the air & had to deadstick land blind in a field full of cows. Did not end well. Hull is paper thin, struts are ridiculously fragile & electronics are at best unreliable. I now have a Dynam Catalina (see pics), yes it is more expensive, but it is a FAR better plane. No mods needed (except I had to paint mine in RAF livery). Very tough, very good scale, reinforced hull, powerfull motors will take off from grass, snow or water with ease. Take my advice guanli no, dynam yes. -

My count is 17. Pilot balsa kit Pitts S2a (unflown but all ready to go). Stryker F27Q Stryker F27B (extensively modded to above F27C spec) Fly Party EPP Eagle Art-tech Coota Dynam PBY Catalina (repaint to RAF coastal command) GWS P-40 Richmodel Yak 54 (balsa artf) PT 19 depron aerobat scale (not profile) 1 micro park fighter twin Plus have one unassembled rtf (sherbert)+ a balsa kit to build (Gentle Lady 2m glider). Then the heli`s: 1 E-Smart 600 2 Esky Belt CP 450`s 1 HK 450 2 Esky Co-commanche`s (1 in airwolf body) co-axial. 1 Century Airwolf 2.4ghz co-axial Plus (don`t tell the missus!!!) have a hobbyking falcon flying wing & fpv kit on backorder). Storage is a bit of a snag, 1 over pc downstairs, 3 in spare room & rest in bedroom (on wardrobe, window sill, chest of drawers). Did I mention the 2 R/C tanks?. Out of all that lot, the EPP Eagle gets the most airtime as will fly from nextdoors overgrown field. -

Hi Fly boy 3 No only have the 1 EPP Eagle (at mo ;o) ), the other bird in some pics is a friendly wild buzzard. Hi Tim I do most of my flying after work in the evening, so most of the thermal lift has gone. There is a possibly good site for slope soaring nearby, but the local buzzard is VERY aggressive & territorial (has hit my eagle & punctured the wing!). I have managed 45 mins, but full credit to you for exceeding an hour, nice one. You`ll be needing a comfy deck chair to fly for longer ;o) I have fast planes, aerobats, warbirds & scale planes but still enjoy flying the eagle more than the others. Feels more `natural` despite it`s many limitations. Mine of course has been modded & it now pees on command (only water, & it STILL didn`t put off the local angry bird). Test flown tonight after repairs, all good, had to dive back to terra firma when a very low cloud bank floated over. Yep, been there too. Put some new metal gear servos in my Stryker, failed to notice the airleron function had reversed somehow. Elevator was ok, so flew, soon realized left turn wa right & right turn was left. Oops. A VERY wide circuit later, brought it in safely & re-configured the tx to give the correct movement. Hi Tim I use a 30c 2600mh 3 cell battery in mine. Often get flights of 30 mins or longer if I can find some lift. That`s why this is the only model I don`t set a battery timer for.
