  1. I think the 120 is a the lower end of the recommended engine size, but it should fly well on that motor. Might be a bit lacking on the vertical stuff. Do you fly with anyone who uses IC?
  2. What motor is in the Obsession? Biggest issue with IC is getting the fuel, not a problem if you have a local model shop. Plenty of videos on tuning so I wouldn't worry about that too much. Might need to think about starting gear, fuel pump, electric starter (not essential) Hard to say with 2 or 4 stroke, depends on the set up. Simon
  3. Nose looks a little short, might be fun getting it to balance if the balsa for the tail is on the heavy side?
  4. Maybe get someone else to throw it on the first go, but no real hassle to launch on your own. Can seem to find the embedding code with my iPad but there is a link to my electric conversion. **LINK** Simon   Edited By simon burch on 18/02/2014 10:17:52
  5. Pretty sure my dehumidifier works at lower temps than 10 degrees and it will shut of if the temp goes below freezing. I run mine though the winter till the damp mornings are gone. Its gives off a bit of heat as well so shed never seems that cold (it is well insulated though)
  6. Tony, Any idea when the plans for the turbine version will be available? Cheers, Simon
  7. Found the Rafalroo plan and mag article, send me a pm with your address and I will stick them in the post. I can't find my Kangaroo plan, so I must have given it to the chap I sold mine to. Never heard whether he got it flying or not, but both models were great fun. I think my favourite was the Roo though. First model I'd built from a plan for years and a model which I got to fly at Hop Farm which was a memorable weekend. Glad I can help out with at least one plan. Regards, Simon
  8. I think I might have the article for the Rafalroo. Not going to build another. Will get back to you.
  9. I've built both so should have the plans somewhere, will have a look. To be fair the are big build threads on both so I don't think you will need the magazine article. Simon
  10. Bought one of these last year, but not had much chance to fly it. From the few flights I've had, it is a lot of fun to throw around, but I'd like to try it without the wing plates as they do make it feel a bit strange. Regards, Simon
  11. There have been quite a few "bad" 150's out the box. So if you are new to it, i would try and find someone with a bit of experience and let them try it. Compared to some of the e-flite micros, the 150 doesn't take a lot of punishment before you will break something.
  12. I remember designing a v-tail glider when I flew as a kid at Bradgate Park in Leicester. At 90 degree's the tail response was quite aggressive and I was advised not to go less than 90 degrees (obviously I tried it, but the tail was uncontrollable). I would aim more for 100 degrees, but I'm sure there is a set of design parameters somewhere which will give you an optimal angle. When you say inline with the fuse, are you talking about the angle relative to the wing? If so, I would keep it the same as the original horizontal tailplane. Remember when you set up the mix for the rudder, it sort of works in reverse. From behind, left rudder will make the left elevator go down (not like with ailerons). Simon
  13. That will make it straight forward with the ailerons then. Brought back some memories digging away at the wing to get the torque rods in. Either I've improved since I was a kid or I've got better tools as the torque rods went in very easily on mine. Not long till the maiden then? Might as well fit it with floats !!
  14. I went with a ply tongue at the front with two magnets at the back. Mine seemed to stay put !! Build is looking good. Did you make the wing thicker to get those servo's in? Simon
  15. Some great looking airframes. Did the same myself last week, mainly the clear more wall space to get airframes off the floor away from the water !! It's all going to have to come out once the weather cheers up as the shed is going to have to go up in the world (about 4" minimum ) Cheers, Simon
  16. I know what you are saying, but to be fair my mate offered and considering he doesn't like videoing and had never used my camera before, it was better than nothing. His commentary was more entertaining than the model zooming about. Didn't try a launch on my own as I only had two packs, but as you hear in the video, it goes off at half throttle with no drama at all. I like taking the video camera but get a bit tired of having other peoples stuff videoed and not my own models. The field is really wet so will leave it for now as the model was covered in mud and water after landing. It does fly well, can't wait to see a load of them go at once. Should make an amazing sound! 17. There is a video on youtube here I'm not going to embed it as I've just noticed my mate uses a naughty word about 1:30 min into the video. It's too late to edit now, but I will try to work out how to remove it from the youtube vid. Control wise, I went with the 6mm as per plan with about 30% expo. I think I added more on the flight you see as it was a bit tame on the controls for me. Seems a bit quicker on the second flight, but that might be due to it being trimmed and getting confident. Glad I added the spar !! Cheers, Simon
  18. She flies. Maiden done so if someone helps I might get a little video on the next one. Ground is really soft so its grabbing the prop on landing. Goes really well maybe not a quick as i had hoped, but sounds great.
  19. Amazing build. Always amazed at the curves and shapes people can design and create in balsa. Cheers, Simon
  20. Maiden tomorrow.......video camera is charging as we speak. Will report back, good or bad. Simon
  21. It's not a raised deck, they are flower beds. Everything is clay round here, the water just can't drain away quick enough. Plus who ever built the house got the levels wrong, so our garden in lower than everything else around it. If the garden comes up, then it puts the house at risk. If I had the pump last night it would have not been an issue, so something I will have to prepare for in the future. Might have to gut the shed at some point to raise it, but it would be a big job to remove all the insulation and cladding. The shed is 14' x 8' so not a 5 minute job. Last nights weather was unusual and compared to some, I got off quite lightly!! Cheers, Simon
  22.                               Mine is all but done apart from connecting the elevator lead. Need to think about some cooling holes as I couldn't find space to mount my ESC at the back near the motor. Balances fine with a 2200 lipo at the front. Came out at 26oz ready to fly. Cheers, Simon     Edited By simon burch on 24/12/2013 15:02:15
  23. Yep, seen that so I'm keeping the pump. To be fair we had nearly three inches of rain last night. Edited By simon burch on 24/12/2013 15:11:11
