  1. Grasshopper - if you run a wire from the glider rudder servo output arm forward, so it moves backward and forward inside the fuselage behind a small hole, you will be able to use the rudder as a release system. Just put the loop from the towline through the hole and catch it with the wire.   You will find that you do not need the rudder for the aerotow, and by applying a swift push of full left (or right) rudder you will release off tow.   I use this system on my MiddlePhase and it works just fine.   Like Tony, I have done a great deal of fullsize aerotowing ( at the tail end of the tow rope ) but with models the glider will be out of position pretty much all of the time. By towing close to the c of g on the towplane, the glider can be well out of position without causing an upset. As Andy pointed out, unlike fullsize, the glider needs to be kept ABOVE the towplane at all times.   Hope this helps   Chris Edited By gliderpilot01 on 18/11/2009 22:10:01 Edited By gliderpilot01 on 18/11/2009 22:10:57 Edited By gliderpilot01 on 18/11/2009 22:17:54
  2. OK, let's compare the Flycam ECO with the RC Hero Camera-   Flycam ECO - cost £39.99 RC Hero on Ebay cost today - £168.99   Flycam ECO - resolution 0.3 mp RC Hero       - resolution 5 mp   all a bit obvious which camera is going to give the better results   we could continue comparing chalk with cheese but probably more constructive to find similar cost / spec items for comparison.   Has anyone got any relevant links for similar equipment evaluation ?Edited By gliderpilot01 on 18/11/2009 21:36:41
  3. great clips, but rather off topic.   Anyone got any relevant links ie for the FlyCam ECO ?
  4. Frank Skilbeck reckons the quality of the stills recorded in serial mode is not as good as the video. I am thinking of getting one of these - has anyone else experienced the reduced quality with still images?
  5. Nice one,Globs -   perhaps you might consider starting a 'cottage industry' - I think it may become popular.
  6. Dan I live nowhere near Rotherham but I strongly suggest you visit your local model shop and enquire as to the location of your nearest model flying club AND JOIN IT. You will then get plenty of help, advice and pointers as to suitable models for learning the basics on, before progressing to more exciting models like a Spitfire. The cost of joining the club will be massively outweighed by the saving of successive broken airframes not to mention the benefit of being insured for 3rd party liability. All the best for your future success in this exciting and absorbing hobby. Edited By gliderpilot01 on 05/07/2009 22:48:40
  7. GiantCod do a depron CAP232, looks similar construction for £12.98 which makes this 'Spitfire' appear a tad pricey at £34.95.   http://www.giantcod.co.uk/cap-232-p-403765.html?osCsid=kr9jluv2101t1rb2hj8ovae110 Edited By gliderpilot01 on 08/05/2009 15:25:02
  8. 4 channel combo for £26.95 plus £8.05 delivery , user report here -   http://www.giantcod.co.uk/gianitcod-24ghz-4channel-mode2-transmitter-pri-403779.html?reviews_id=1319&osCsid=q01erc95hub11hb5fo58r02il2
  9. Bob Cotsford -   thanks for your post - this is exactly the helpful kind of information I was hoping to attract when I started the thread. Unfortunately things went a bit off track for a while but now there is some equipment out there in the field actually being used, let's hope more 'users' will share their experiences. GP01
  10. Polycheapskate :   here's a link as requested:   http://www.giantcod.co.uk/gianitcod-24ghz-4channel-mode2-transmitter-p-403779.html?osCsid=3cn6avcghb7cb1787hijqs06v6   GP01
  11. Update to my first post.   It is now possible to acquire the following, from a well known supplier of budget electric model supplies on the internet : 1 x 2.4Ghz transmitter 1 x 2.4Ghz Receiver 1 x Bind Plug   for £26.95 + £8.05 postage. ( yes - £35 ! )   The transmitter is labelled "RadioLink" , is 4ch FHSS and the Rx is 6ch. The features appear to be very similar to the 'Planet' system. Also available is a 6ch Tx combo for £55.89.
  12. Useful feedback, Biggles, thanks. Can you tell us whether there is a trainer socket on the Tx, and if so, does the Tx work effectively as either the master or slave in this mode.?
  13. The so-called 'manual' gives no indication of control throws. Can anyone help with suggested throws for aileron and elevator please.
  14. I have a Phoenix Rainbow which I have converted into an electric glider tug. It tows lightweight gliders ok in the EasyGlider weight range but struggles with anything much heavier, or without ailerons. So.... I have just ordered a Windrider Fox from Galaxy models. The plan is to put a tow release in the nose. What I need to know is a) are BRC cheapie (£15 for 4) servos adequate for this model? b) what's the balance like with a servo in the tail for the rudder? ie any nose weight reqd? c) has anyone successfully thermal soared a Fox?
