  1. I did it. Nerve racking, but someone else kindly gave me a launch and my tatty Durably P51 ascended to the clouds. I was too scared to try my Ask21 so figured something I'd be willing to lose was safer. The wind was blowing me backwards, but it coped admirably. Came a bit further back than intended but nowhere near other people and still with lift. Only had one flight but it was worth it. Will try it again soon with something less draggy. Top stuff.
  2. I've been debating going today, but I've never flown in anything over 25mph winds. Today looks pretty full on. Any tips? Can't afford to replace my glider this month...
  3. In Cambridge if you have Virgin then they have their own infrastructure that they bought from NTL (Cambridge cable before that) and it hooks into the main BT exchange. Always got the impression from their installers this was quite common.
  4. I've pranged the leading edge of my glider while on holiday and need a couple of bits of balsa, but don't know of anywhere I could get some. The place is popular with artists, so I'm sure there must be somewhere that sells bits and pieces that would get me through. Any thoughts?
  5. Thanks flight1, I'm going to investigate some powered site possibilities today and i'lol go at natural tomorrow
  6. Fortunately the direction looks OK here, I'm just worried about driving 40 minutes for no lift. I guess I could find a field or beach that isn't national trust land and break out some powered flying, but I can do that at home   Edited By Simon B on 21/03/2016 23:27:27
  7. I've come to Cornwall with some sloping in mind, but the next few days seem to be pretty light on wind. I've brought a FlyFly Ask 21 with me and not sure what winds would be too weak for it...
  8. Annoyingly they're only available on back order. Edited By Simon B on 23/02/2016 14:29:14
  9. I didn't do that, but I soon discovered my Durafly P-51 was too heavy for the lift available and just scraped it back to to the top. Thought it was a goner at one point...
  10. I should have thought of that. Thanks! Might buy one of those and then something more pylon style for some speed runs
  11. Can a mod change the header to say 'sloper' rather than 'sloes'? My phone auto corrected it...
  12. I'm going away to Cornwall, which will involve a few trips to St. Agnes Head. I want something aerobatic, sturdyish and 1.5m or less. Flaps preferred but not essential. Key thing is it be simple to build. I've got a 1.5m mouldie that's still stumping me, so I want a quick build. Any suggestions?
  13. Thanks, that's extremely useful to know!
  14. As I said, everything I've got is de-propped ready, either by removing props or elastic bands holding them back. it was more general advice I was after that wasn't covered. I'll double-check your site though Anyone flying tomorrow?Edited By Simon B on 21/02/2016 22:14:18
  15. I think I'm planning on 2-3 models, but maybe I'll revise that down!
  16. I'm heading over with a few de-propped gliders tomorrow and wondered if anyone had any tips etc? Got my BMFA card to hand in case anyone needs to see it.
  17. If they reduce the fee later in the year then I withdraw my comment. Always happy to be proven wrong
  18. It's ludicrous. I don't know any other insurance (and let's face it, it's the main reason people join the BMFA) that works like it.Edited By Simon B on 17/02/2016 13:56:34
  19. Thanks Denis. I'm actually looking for the whole mechanism rather than just the wheel and forgot to put this. Could a mod change the title of the thread for me?
  20. I'm trying to find scale tailwheels for my Nijhuis FW190 and 72" Spitfire and would like something off the shelf. Does anyone know of anything that might suit? I'm finding some phenomenally expensive 1/5 scale ones, but the sizes I need seem few and far between.

    Hornby at risk?

For the record, I'm in my late 30s, build models and own a Playstation 4. Is there a pigeonhole for that? Edited By Simon B on 12/02/2016 11:31:57

    Hornby at risk?

If I was a kid considering getting into our hobby and saw the numerous threads blanket labelling kids, I think it'd put me off!
  23. If my local store (Cambridge) was anything to go by, Hobbystores suffered from terrible stock levels unless you were into RC cars and the prices weren't very competitive. As a result a lot of local flyers simply went to other shops like Inwood that could actually sell them what they wanted.Edited By Simon B on 24/01/2016 13:21:12
