  1. Hi folks I have an electric Ava glider , quite alot of carbon used to make these. The 35 meg arial is positioned between the back of the wing and the top of the fin. The Rx is a new bog stnd 35 meg Futaba 7 channel, Recently on 3 occasions I have lost control at around 50 ft high and range of 400 - 600 yds. Not sure if this is me, or could there be loss/interference of signal. , the motor a brushless Hacker was on in all 3 instances.   I fly at a field where there are several hangers, radio masts, freqy control is strict.   The pundits at the club say i am flying too far away and becoming disorientated, they could be correct. The question I have is the low altitude combined with the distance likely to effect the quality of the signal,   Value anyones opinion on this before I spend money on 2.4 radio gear., or keep my altitude up higher at distance ! Thanks Derek   ps new email address " [email protected]"
  2. Physics not my strong point, I have changed my motor in my Mini AVA e to a Hacker 20 6XL and a 4.41 Gbox with a 15 x 8 A/naught folder. The glider does not climb so well as it did, basically the prop is turning at 1000 rpm slower now. So I am considering increasing prop size to 16 x 8 (recommended by Hacker) .   Does the diameter of the prop bar make any difference to performance ? as its a folder there is a minimum size but does an increase in prop bar dia help or hinder ? Cheers ! Derek
  3. Hi Ian   Tried this, works very well nice stable 12v o/p from a 400 watt psu,  I did have to apply a load onto the 5v rail, 2 hrs work and no cost with a freebie pc being scrapped. Nice one!
  4. Hi Hamish i have had a couple of EPs found it easy to fly with power off. I found that the basic 600 motor set up gave a very poor climb rate. If you are happy with yours, fine, if not I re motored mine with good results. I have put an emax 2815 (970 Kv) outrunner motor in with a 60 amp esc and   a Lipo 3s 1 P 2250 mah power pack and a seperate NiMh receiver pack., coupled to a 11 x 6 Graupner folding prop, the climb is quick and almost vertical, ( I only use 1/2 throttle mostly)   Those 3 items cost me approx £60 from Giantcod RC., the prop cost £20. If you get to the stage where you want a much faster climb and the ability to penetrate into wind this set up is good for me. Any questions email me direct at [email protected] be glad to help. Good luck
