  1. Hi Going off my memory of the review model I increased the aileron differential by 2mm or so,and programmed in an aileron/rudder mix of 5%.I had the receiver battery as far forward as it would go and still had to add lead to get the C of G correct. This gave a much nicer feel to the aircraft and totally eliminated the skidding into turns that were prevalent beforehand. The Thunder Tiger 91 that I fitted was definitely too powerful, and as I said in the review,I think the 72 will give a much better balanced flight envelope.
  2. We do quite a few reviews for RCME down at Tyldesley MFC,and the experience of the reviewers can vary between expert flyers and guys who have only just passed their "A" cert. The question of who does a particular model review seems to be "does that model tie in with the ability of the flyer" I've done a couple of reviews, along with Brian Nicholl and Brian Rottier, and none of us might be what you would call expert flyers, just average clubmen. And then we've got members such as Andy Ellison,Rob Stenhouse,Richard Fry and Liam Swarbrick,to name just a few,who can all get the most out of a model.Their ability to analyse what a model is doing in a particular manouvre far surpasses mine for instance, but I think Ronnie has got quite a valid point. What they might consider as easy and not worth commenting on,a beginner might find beyond his ability, both in the build and subsequent test flights.
  3. Hi I've just received a letter from Meridienne Exhibitions thanking Tyldesley MFC for their support, and informing me that ,regretfully, they won't be continuing with the show due to a lack of support. I find this a great pity....what should have been an oppurtunity for us to showcase what we can do in the North of England seems to have been let down by a general lack of interest, both from clubs and trade.Yet again there were only ourselves,Bury, the LMA and Barton CL who could be bothered to attend. As for a trade presence, where were Webbies,Barnstormers,Vulcan,et al. I'm really disappointed.
  4. Hi I've just finished packing the car with the models that I'm showing at the Northern Modelling Exhibition,as we're erecting our stand this afternoon. We've managed to get the same spot in the hall that we had last year,so we'll be easy to spot right near the main entrance. Tyldesley MFC should yet again have an excellent stand, with a range of planes highlighting all that is best in the RC aircraft world, from Turbines through moulded gliders and onto trainers, with maybe a smattering of warbirds and pylon racers thrown in as well. So come along if you can over the weekend, for a look at the planes and a chat to our members. We'll be glad to see you and show what we do as a club.
  5. Hi Steve I love my Acrowot [built-up] and I couldn't wish for a nicer motor than the Saito 72 that I've got fitted. It's power output seems too suit the airframe particularly well. This is my 2nd Acrowot fitted with this engine......my first one met it's demise in an unfortunate disconnection of brain from thumbs, subsequently picking up Tyldesley MFC's "crash of the year"Oops!!!!!
  6. I'm now retired, but I worked in the Middle East for over 13 years, and then spent 22 years up in the North Sea.I used to love flying, especially out of Schipol enroute to Abu Dhabi, and even originally in the Tiger helis going offshore from Aberdeen. However, after 9/11 it all changed, with officious security officers all too ready to make your life difficult.I now don't fly at all, taking our holidays either on the UK mainland,or getting a ferry from Portsmouth. I must say that when flying out to Abu Dhabi everyone I worked with avoided Heathrow and British Airways like the plague. The airport is awful, and BA staff have always seemed to have the attitude that they were doing you a big favour by letting you fly with them.My favourite airlines were KLM,Cathay Pacific,Singapore Air,Gulf Air and Emirates Air.
  7. Hi Just to confirm that Tyldesley MFC will be putting on a stand again,as we did for the last show. The club's with a presence at the last show were ourselves,Bury and Barton Control Line. The BMFA had a stand, with the LMA also putting on a good show.We were,as a club, very pleased with the feedback from the paying public, and from the show organisers and thought it was definitely an event worth supporting again. So get yourselves down to the show, and we'll be pleased to meet you.
  8. well done,Dylan. Makes my puny efforts at Tyldesley pale into insignificance."Crash of the Year" AND "Maximum Stickus" for being the recipient of the most p$%s taking this year.Oh,the shame!!!!
  9. Hi, I use a product called "Sticky Stuff Remover"and it does what it says on the tin. It's available from Lakeland and John Lewis.Just wipe it on,leave for a few seconds, and then wipe off.My iron's not got much coating left and this cleans it up beautifully.
  10. I've suffered from the same problem mentioned by Peter Witherington on 05/09/11...My 54FS went deadstick a few weeks ago and on checking the engine there was no compression. On lifting the cam cover I was astonished to find no trace of the exhaust valve spring retainer collet. It must have shattered into pieces too small to see.Steve Webbs had them in stock at over £9 for a set[two collets]That should have been a warning,as I wouldn't have thought they would be a normal stock item. Last weekend, with the engine seemingly fixed and running well, the same thing happened. So that's two collets gone in a week.I'm scratching my head over the cause, and all I can think of is the valve stem groove that takes the collet being poorly machined.I've had the engine over a year, with probably 25 hours perfect running out of it,but I've now no confidence in it......I don't think I'll be buying Thunder Tiger again.
  11. I can't recommend the Acrowot highly enough.Mine's done well over 400 flights,it's fitted with a Saito 72FS and flies just great. It's an easy build, being just a box fuselage with the curves sanded in,and foam wings. It flies well in all winds, being heavier than an ARTF,and really does instil a great deal of confidence. If you want to go the ARTF route I would recommend the LA Racer from Steve Webbs.I preferred the Racer to the Super Air that I had.Just personal preference really,as they both flew well. With reference to Cymaz post...My experience of Sig kits is also good.
  12. I've just got back from manning the TMFC stand for the last three days, and I've got to agree with the last two comments.I was chatting with the guys on the next stand to ours,a model engineering stand, and also to the guys manning the model boat stands. There was no trade presence for either of them,as well. However,it WAS the first time the event has been held,so I would expect the trade will start coming once the event has proved itself. For ourselves, our run of 200 fliers and the 50 or so reviews that were printed soon disappeared,so the demand IS there,it justs needs nurturing.I was told by one of the Meridienne staff that they were very pleased with how the event had gone, and were planning on next year's event spreading into the adjoining halls.....what they need to do is contact any club that they think might be interested in good enough time to get organised with models and so on.Our stand was literally put together in less than two weeks
