  1. Not me Phil, I'm over in the desert at the moment, that airframe left here the other night to get home for the show as it has the tail painted up with the not so tactical markings.   Besides, being the Eng, things have gone horribly wrong if I'm at the helm
  2. 69 & 70 as I swear that's a shadow in the boxes below them.
  3. BEB, I understand why they've done it, but it just seems a very European way of dealing with it. Not that long ago the British Empire wasn't exactly smelling of roses either but we didn't ban the Union Flag to try and hide our bloody past (some of which is still battling on to this day in the Middle East and Africa).   Anyway, this has gone waaaay off topic now so I'll post no more on that subject, however on a subject of scale and building a scale Axis model, I think it's only right that it be fully scale and wear the correct markings of it's era.
  4. It beggers belief, the Germans banning a 3000 year old symbol isn't going to change anything, you can't delete history, the symbol has been here long before the Nazi's used it, it's original meaning was to represent life, good luck and power (probably why the Nazi's adopted it.   The word "swastika" comes from the Sanskrit svastika - "su" meaning "good," "asti" meaning "to be," and "ka" as a suffix.
  5. It's history, it happened, removing a Swastika isn't going to change any of that.   The origins are actually from ancient India if you look into it's history, just because it was adopted by the Nazi party as the state flag shouldn't really be a reason to errase it from history.   I do like the Axis warplanes, they seem almost a little more agricultural than the glamorous P-51 and Spitfire but that's what I like about them. 6. Did you see our C-17 with the 10th aniversary painting on the tail Phil?
  7. Obviously not but you don't find many planes with speed control on the control column unless you get into the depths of "backside lift".   I realise that's your prefered choice but it still just doesn't seem natural.
  8. And she still comes in fast....wow!!   Maybe an all moving tail and an airbrake would help, certainly the all moving tail to keep control authority.Edited By James40 on 19/07/2011 11:12:30
  9. Eeeuuch, mode one is just plain dirty, why would you want a throttle on the control stick, it's not natural.
  10. She looks great Chris!   It's hard to tell from the pictures but does it have flaps on the inboard of the wing to slow it down for landing?
  11. Good recommendation Shaun, the P-47 is very forgiving and a great looking warbird. Tom, are you going electric or fuel motor on this? Electric is possibly easier for a first warbird as it's less to worry about and you know there's always power available when you need it.
  12. Hey, don't laugh at fuel tank level, it's in development and I know the guy designing it!! Capacitance is a clever thing
  13. Tim, did you not fancy the telemetry option, there's some good stuff coming out soon, airspeed (great for a stall warning), altitude, fuel tank level, the list goes on. I really fancy the 8 although I've been a little concerned with the current press and recalls.
  14. That's exactly what it's for Martyn, in theory to give the connector good strength and support, the cables insulation should butt up against the barrel of the connector. To ensure the cables go to the end of the connector barrel with the insulation butted against it, they provide an inspection hole at the end. I did a Precision Termination Testing (PTT) course many years ago at RAF Sealand, possibly the dullest course I've ever done but worth it for the nights out in Chester
  15. There is nothing you can do about ice build up on the fan blade except for as you say- reduce then increase power and try to get out of the icing conditions! Engine anti-icing is only the intake leading edge ring which heated by bleed air from the engine, this is really to stop any bulid up of ice from shedding and going into the fast spinning fan blades. If you listen to a jet engine when it's not running, the blades all clatter around quite lose in their fittings, in fact I replaced 8 blades a few weeks ago after we ate a stone departing from a desert location, the whole fan blade assembly is held in by a single spring clip, the blade simply slide out of a retaining lug. Here's a piccy I took whilst doing the job, only took 2 hours to replace 8 blades.    Yes ok it's a big spring clip but that's all that is holding the fan in place and bare in mind that fan produces 70% of the engines thrust!
  16. Yup, 6kts between V-mama and V-stall, crazy. I'm pretty sure the U2 has a good autopilot !?
  17. There was an amusing story of an RAF Canberra back in the day of the U2 and Canberra having competitions to see who could get the altitude record. Above 60,000 ft (flight level 600) air traffic control does not control aircraft but the canberra pilot radio'd air traffic as asked them is he was clear to flight level 700 (70,000ft), the air traffic controller said in a cocky tone "if you can make it up to flight level 700 you're welcome to it"!  The Canberra pilot answered "Roger, descending to flight level 700" !!  How those engines had enough air to operate amazes me but they did it.
  18. The credit card is used to remove the excess epoxy Allan, you don't want or need a thick coat of the stuff so you paint it on and squeegee the excess out with a playing card or credit card.
  19. I've got the V3 Phoenix and mine seems to crash if I edit a model to different settings.
  20. In my continuing battle to secure a flying site in this area, Fairford is my next target! Fairford now comes under the "care and maintainance" so no longer an active manned airfield, it will unfortunatley only be for RAFMAA members as we are losing our patch at Brize Norton and Lyneham has closed.  Finger crossed this will work out but I do have a very good contact there (my collegues wife is the Station Comander Fairford)  As for the Tattoo, I'll see you there, you will, weather permitting, absolutely love it !!  Not sure if we're having a jet there, we're usually a bit too busy for airshows, unlike the Typhoon!
  21. Agree, although my last few purchases have been Overlander and Turnigy, both which came without any connectors fitted, some manufacturers are learning. It would be nice if the whole electic side of the market was standardised for motors, batteries, etc. Trying to locate and compare 2 different motors is a nightmare of differing stats, each manufacturer quoting different figures.  I guess it stops you doing a direct comparrison so they get away lower quality or outputs?
  22. Is the any guidance for current ratings and connectors? I usually replace mine with the EC3/EC5 connectors but often wonder what the max current they are able to maintain before failing? I've heard poor ratings for deans connectors and high current and a lot of recommendations for bullet connectors but the EC3/5 are like two bullets in one connector housing. All so confusing.Edited By James40 on 17/06/2011 15:52:35
  23. What a tragic shame and also a shame he couldn't have made it back to the airfield but there's no arguing with the decision to put her down. Fire men eh, they probably couldn't decide whether to fight the fire or go on strike!Edited By Tim Mackey - Administrator on 16/06/2011 08:44:56
  24. Heating the resin may make it go off faster? The methys works well, I leave it 24hrs to cure but you can tell it has done it's thing when the tramp breath like smell of methys disappears. If your mix is the same as mine 3 parts clear to 2 parts coloured then I mix 6g of clear, 4g of coloured and about half a tea spoon of methys then give it a real thorough mix. Paint on, squeegee off then leave for 24 hours with an occasional blow over wit a hair dryer to speed up curing slightly.
