  1. My 2017 Xtrail refused to start a few weeks ago, changed the battery ( £150) , no issues, stop start began working much more so this could be used as an indicator  of battery health if only you knew? Mind you my old much lamented SAAB had a voltmeter which left no doubt.

  2.  Four cell lipos which have a duff cell  cell  are near enough to 12 volts so can be discharged  with a bulb. I use  such old lipos as a power source for  LED day running lights on my old Triumph then dispose when flat. Nearly all vehicles now have these LEDs so I feel more comfortable that I can be seen by car drivers, always a worry on a bike.  I once put a lipo in a bucket of water then pierced it . It boiled away for a while under water, showing how difficult  to extinguish they are. Just the once!

Reminds me of the one about a surgeon who amputated the wrong leg after the patient had bad crush injuries to his left leg. He apologised profusely but then told the patient he had some good news - they had managed to save his injured leg…

Or the bad news , we have amputated the wrong foot,  -------- the good news is the man in the next bed wants to buy  your slippers.

  4. As I have said before converting to electrickery the main problem is enlarging the tank bay  to fit  a battery up against the motor mount , otherwise the cg is too far aft. My Christen Eagle had a wide cowl so managed to fit a battery transversely , the cg was spot on without ballast.

  5. Thanks  Ron. Just wondering if this could be adapted  to depron?  Balsa veneer is stuck to foam cores with PVA , or perhaps use water based varnish .  I do use vinyl from the local sign shop which makes the wing almost bomb proof but brown  paper would be cheaper and also sandable and would take emulsion .  Worth a try any way

Two hundred and eighty quid.....wow that's a lot of dosh, so over a grand for a full set. Worth taking out tyre insurance I'd have thought - only a tenner or so each on the sort of tyres that I buy but I take a chance and don't bother. Obviously dearer on specialist and expensive deluxe EV types, but a moron with a pocketfull of self tappers and a powerdrill could easily do a lot of damage. Set of four mid range tyres for my Mondeo was just a tad under £300 a year ago including a free alignment check and adjustment - a different league.

I'd have said the screw in the sidewall was certainly vandalism - right through Bibendum's mouth and an even bigger kick knowing the tyre would be not repairable - very worrying .

Kwikfit quote £30 each for insurance on tyres between £250-£300 including malicious damage (must be reported to the police and recorded) - other tyre fitters are probably similar. Worth considering given that it usually covers punctures and pothole damage.

I have a rather jaundiced opinion about most insurance, other than essential such as house and car insurance, the companies try not to pay out if they can.

Last year got a wood screw in a front tyre, too near the edge, the fitter said for a plug so bought another tyre, an all season as usual.   Few weeks later, blow me,  had the same in the other side so sent off for a packer of repair screws which screw in from outside. Added a touch of POR to help things and it has been 100% air tight, I have individual sensors in each wheel so can keep an eye on pressure which gives a bit peace of mind , tyres and brakes,  really not best to cut corners but this fix seems a good product!

Got a couple of hours in this morning, lovely blue skies, but the light NE crosswind made it far coder than it had any right to be, for the first day of the meteorological spring.  Flew both the Seafire and the Spitfire PRXIX and they looked ace against the blue sky, apart from when the PRU Blue did it's job and made the Spitfire all but  disappear.😮 Also did some single channel flying with the Super 30 and a post repair test flight for the wee SEMFF Zero, which it passed with flying colours. Just seconds after I landed a single Typhoon came over the adjacent field  at very low level and motored up into the Cairngorms, where he spent the next 45 minutes cavorting about before going home to Lossiemoutn for tea.

Paint over the PRU blue with PRU PINK

  8. My old boss was a wireless operator in '44 and '45, one of the ones he used to come out with was about the RAF pilot who was court martialed for  chasing a WAAF round the station accomodation when he had no clothes on.

He got off by quoting Kings Regulations which stated " An officer may dress according to the sport he is engaged in"

  9. Looked at the blurb for Glass, all a bit over the top for an over the top price, I find the Virgin TIVO  box a boon as I can record and then fast forward  all adverts  or just simply  mute until over. I think I developed  a bad reaction to  to ads during lockdown  when no new ads were being produced and got sick of the monotony.

  10. This was on Radio Scotlands Out of Doors  program this morning so thought I would put it on.

In Scotland sack is pronounced sek, plural seks

Man went  to B and Q to buy bin liners so went to the woman at the help desk and said "i'm lookin fer rubbish seks"

She screamed and pushed the panic button so he got escorted out protesting

  11. As  a private buyer, for some time I have bought at around two to three years old when the hump of depreciation has begun to level out. Looking ahead buying an EV at that age I would like to know the state of the battery as type of use,ac or dc charging,  and being left at 100% charge is being reported as affecting life. Is a dealer going to report this? How would you find out to verify? It would greatly affect the value.

  12. Just googled Flying Legends to see that it is cancelled, no reason given. After the superb display last year I was committed to attending , must be some local problem.

On the other hand Duxford is theming 80th anniversary of D day so might be worth the long trek.
