  1. Ah Colin, another fantastic model. Good flying. How did you attach the wheel covers please? Happy New Year Graeme
  2. Thank you cymaz & Piers. What threw me was the statement "last weeks free plan". My December RCM&E hasn't arrived yet and January 2017 is out I believe. Frustrating! So I will just have to wait. merry Xmas Graeme
  3. Merry Xmas Ray. I love your Das Ghosten Flugboot. Heaps of character. I would love to build it.You mention last weeks free plan. Where do I get a copy please? All the best Graeme
  4. No need to be sorry Colin. I didn't intend to prevail upon your busy life. I know you have other projects on the go. I have the Peter Nicholson 52" wingspan Traplet plan of the Spiteful. As my preferred model size is in the 1600 (63" to 1700mm (67" wingspan I intend to have the plan increased to about 1650mm. But I'm not ready to go down that path just yet. I want to get the FW190 built first. So thanks for checking that for me. Yes I intend to add a little more scale detail to this kit as I usually just get them into the air as quickly as possible. I have a bit more time now to try a bit harder. I'm pleased that it flys well. I have a couple of spare engines, (prefer ic although I have several electric) so now just a matter of getting into the build. I am keen to get it flying. Again thanks for expending your valuable time. Graeme
  5. Hello Colin & FW190-D lovers, Back in September 2014 I mentioned that I would be retiring about Xmas 2015. Well it happened in April 2016. Kathy & I then had a month in Europe and 13 weeks in the UK. All good fun. When we arrived home in September I was enticed back to a little part time work, 2 days a week, 4 hours a day. Not a stretch. So I have some spare time for a project. So while I await your plan (?) for a Spiteful, no pressure ha ha , I have dug out the Mick Reeves FW 190. I bought it about 20 years ago, maybe more. I have been considering retracts and looking at the HK electrics. You mention that the Mick Reeves legs are not long enough for scale so what should they be? Also do you know what degree of retract I should get? Thanks for any help. Graeme
  6. A couple of summers ago, I stupidly wrecked the wing tip of my Black Horse Chipmunk, the 64" one, while landing. Me and landings,!!! sigh. So I thought I would have a go at rebuilding the missing 150mm. I need to somehow make two missing wing ribs. I have rib 3 counting from the tip. So I thought I would just photocopy it and then reduce it to the sizes I want. Would this work or is there a better way? Thanks Graeme
  7. The Staudacher flew beautifully today. The only minor trim problem I had was while inverted, I didn't need any down elevator at all. Tail heavy a tad maybe? Other wise fabulous, which surprised me. All held together and flew as always. Very happy lad.Cheers Graeme
  8. Ah. I thought it would include the pictures in the body of the post. They are in the 6 photos on the side. Thanks Graeme
  9. After lots of your good advice from the Forum, I have tackled the problem and she is ready to fly again. The forecast for Thursday is good. It looks ok from a distance, a bit rough up close. The only slight concern I have, apart from breaking up, is that the tail plane is not quite lining up with the main plane, about 3 mm out of alignment. I thought of packing up the main wing but thought I would see what happens first. Maybe a bit of trimming will fix it good enough for my mad flying. i have even figured out how to include pictures for your perusal...I think! See how we go. Thanks for all the help.
  10. Oh No! Not the lovely Spiteful. Hope he builds another.
  11. Thanks Dennis for attempting to absolve me of stupidity. However it was my own silly fault. One end of our 70metre strip (its seems very short at times especially when I'm trying to land my Spitfire) drops away to a gully and it gets very turbulent there especially when the wind is from that direction. I landed into the wind, (as you do) towards the gully a bit quickish, and with the end of the strip and the gully quickly approaching I stupidly pulled a bit of up elevator. Then things happened very quickly, well so it seemed to me ('m getting on a bit and my reactions are not what they used to be) It jumped back into the air and the breeze coming up the gully got under the wing. The Staudacher went up at about a 40degree angle, came to a stop about a metre in the air and dropped onto it's tail. What a crock! Thank for the warning Dave. I checked and there is no oil ingress. Another quick question. A mate reckons I should use aliphatec resin or Deluxe Super'phatic. My problem with those is holding it all together while it drys. I think cyno would be easier. Thanks everyone for your help. I'll jam it back together, glue it up and hope for the best. Cheers Graeme
  12. Well that was quick. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. This forum is great. I have had this plane for 12 years and except for the occasional scratch and scrape it has never been damaged till now. It is my all time favourite and i want to hang onto it. Its an Ace R/C Staudacher 60, I don't believe they are made anymore, and a wonderful flyer. Until 2 years ago i had a Saito 90 in it but upgraded to a Saito 115. Really good fun! It has snapped into 2 clean parts, jagged balsa edges and a good 90% fits perfectly. I intended to do as suggested by BEB and Cuban8. But then i worried that it would not be strong enough, considering the silly aerobatics i sometimes get up to. So i thought i would place a balsa doubler across the joins as suggested by gangster. However i cant figure out how to get the doubler nice and tight against the fuse. I can glue one end of the doubler ok into, say the rear section then slip it into the front fuse.My lovely wife Kathy suggested i drill a 10mm hole through the fuse and thread cotton/string through the doubler and pull tight. This could work but maybe the doubler is not needed ......but i think there should be something.Kc suggestion is a good idea too. Glue it all up,then cut bits out and replace with new. I think i will take the plunge, cyno it and see what happens. Again thanks all for your input. Graeme
  13. Bad flying resulted in a bad landing which resulted in the fuselage breaking clean away just in front of the fin. Balsawood fuse, arf any suggestions please? Thanks Graeme
  14. If it's the Hornet, I will buy, if the Whirlwind, I will consider it. I have never had a twin and was considering a scratch build. The kit way would be so much easier. For the single I would love a Spiteful/Seafang but I suspect there would be little interest. Go well Graeme
  15. Hornet for me too please. Rarely seen but lovely aircraft. Cheers Graeme
  16. Supermarine Spiteful/Seafang, Dh Hornet, ME262, Hughes H1 racer, Zlin526, 1600 - 1800mm. Thanks Graeme
  17. The plan I recently bought Colin, is the Pete Nicholson 52" span first published in RCMW in March 2003. I was intending to resize it to 1/7th scale (about 60". However 1/6th scale would be about 70". So if you ever make your plan available I would love to get hold of a copy. Do you know the size of Bernard's? I seem to remember seeing a video of his and it is terrific. Again thanks for bringing a little known aircraft to life. All the best, Graeme
  18. Gee Colin, I do like that. Looks as though it flys very well indeed. I thought you must have moved on from the Spiteful as you have been full on with the Chipmunk. I intend to build one myself, (you have inspired me), but have about 6 projects on the go including the Chipmunk. I have bought a plan which I intend to resize to 1/7th scale, 60" Plus Kathy and I are off to Europe/UK for 4 months from the end of April. Yes we are going to Duxford Legends and Cosford so it'll be awhile before I get to it. Retirement is on the horizon which will help so maybe next year. Thanks for building it. It is a plane that I love and something a little different. Cheers Graeme
  19. Well, I found the Peter Lowe way of installing Robart hinge points. Similar to above but using cut down screws. RCME September 2009, Thunderbolt build. Cheers Graeme
