  1. It was the BMFA test, I just did it out of interest really. Disappointingly some of the expected answers seem be based on an incorrect understanding by the test authors, So to pass the test in at least one case you have to give an answer that's factually incorrect.
  2. Thanks everyone. Actually "ex" hang glider pilot nowadays. But yes that's what got me into aeromodelling again, when I was a kid any sort of radio control or even just I/C engines were way out of my budget. So now I'm an occasional model flier using our fields at home. I actually did the online test which is pretty trivial really, but doesn't achieve anything for a non-BMFA member. That stuff from X-Jet looks up my street. And I'll check out the other options. Not sure what to do with my two existing models. I expect someone would want the Fun Cub, but my much crashed and modified electric glider is really just a horrible aeroplane now. I only fly as some sort of masochist challenge.

I've dealt with 7day shop long ago, although I notice they now have pretty rotten feedback on Ebay for late delivery, defective items or not genuine etc. FYI I need these cells for a wildlife camera, manufacturer says not to use rechargeable but the dealer guarantees it will work with Eneloops. And I need them fairly quickly or it's going to cost me in Duracells. So I think Plan A is to try Vapextech, hopefully they'll work. If not then it will need to be Eneloop from one of the UK based dealers recommended above. We have loads of other things used AA batteries so the Vapex won't be wasted in either case. Thanks again.

  5. I'm not registered, and I'm on the fence at the moment. Aeromodelling isn't my main hobby, but something that is great fun to do at home or in the past on the hill when conditions were unsuitable for hang gliding. So at the moment my two electric models are grounded. One option would be to go sub-250g. There may be some challenges building or adapting models but that might be part of the fun. My much electric glider with 1400mm wingspan weighs 600g in its current form, so it looks possible that something 900mm span or so could be put together. Anyone else thinking along these lines?   6. Hi, over time I'm trying to replace our low quality or ancient cells with decent one. Just now there's a new requirement for 8 AA cells, so time to buy some decent ones. I see that fake Eneloops are now rife, in fact looking on Ebay just about every seller has bad feedback reporting they supplied fake. So it looks like it might be a waste of money buying expensive cells but ending up with junk. Can anyone recommend suppliers who are 100% certain to supply genuine? Alternatively am I better with Vapextech which I would expect less likely to be fake, Thanks, Tony S
  7. Well I picked up the Turnigy model that appears to be a clone of the device also sold as "NX3 Evo". From my tests it seems like the Aux input can not only switch it on/off in flight, but can also vary the gain. Accordingly I've set the transmitter so that one switch enables what they call "Beginner" mode, and another engages "Practice" mode, and in both cases the gain is preset by a pot on the transmitter. First flight tests show that Beginner mode does a pretty good job of levelling the wings as it is supposed to, and also seems to damp the roll response quite a lot. It doesn't seem to change elevator control, making the controls feel a bit out of harmony with well damped roll but pitch still just as sensitive. I haven't tested the other modes yet, need better conditions as the current wind direction seriously limits my landing options.

  9. What was the output voltage from the BEC during those tests?
  10. For flaperons I prefer to have a separate logical channel for the flap function, for example if ailerons are on CH1 and CH5, then I'll have CH6 as the flap function. That keeps all the switch weightings and flight modes etc in just one place, on CH6. To apply that you just need +25% CH6 on one aileron, and -25% on the other, or whatever percentage suits.

The 'old' V series haven't been available for a long time! I get it .. of course the page I looked at was the one offering V series for sale, so naturally it refers to compatibility with the current V receivers. Mine are old V8s, dating from when Frsky first came out.
  12. How can the receivers have a lower transmission power? If they did then it would be impossible for them to return low and critical RSSI warnings. Could it be lower because it's going to be received by a higher gain antenna on the transmitter?
  13. I saw discussion of this issue. Does the design have the threads of the screws as the bearing and load bearing surface? That's bad practice even if the connection doesn't move. I suppose there's no possibility of screws with appropriate non-threaded length? I'd worry that the thread will chew into the brass bushing in time. Or have a single length of brass tube passing through both fibreglass parts and acting as the axle, with the screw and nut tight axially on the tube? Just random thoughts. Controls failing on a model like this don't bear thinking about.
  14. I would suspect the BEC function on the speed controller. By which I mean maybe it's cutting or limiting power to the received - maybe enough to drive the rx but not properly drive the servos. Do you have another ESC you could try, or use a separate SBEC for the radio stuff? Or do one flight, then extensive bench testing with the battery in that "second flight" state.
