  1. I think that would be a lot of servo weight Phil, seems like more to go wrong and a lot of additional wiring on the top-wing to route into the fuselage. What's the motivation?
  2. Thanks for the photos - they're great! Any more out there...?
  3. Posted by Rob Tothill on 06/02/2015 22:45:59: Hi Scruff, I'm at the same stage as you. Staring lovingly at the box of bits and pondering the challenges ahead! ... When are you starting the build? Hi Rob, Much like you it'll be a few months before I start gluing anything as I need to finish up a couple of other builds and maintenance tasks on other models first. Thanks for the links, both useful although there is definitely a need for a full write-up on building this model! The RCMF link alludes to newer versions of the Foss kits possibly having the wing cut for two servos (at least on AcroWot). Does yours have this on the Wots Wot? Mine does not.
  4. I'll add Laser to my shortlist, thanks. Any more build info out there?
  5. As of this morning I am the proud owner of an Almost-Ready-to-Build Wots Wot! Surprisingly I haven't been able to find any comprehensive build threads/photos for this model on the Internet so if you know of any please post. Engines I plan to install a glow four-stroke, but I will need to buy one. I'm looking for good aerobatic performance sufficient for rolling circles and nice high stall turns with a little bit to spare, but this isn't intended for out and out speed. The relatively new OS 95V four-stroke looks nice and just £235 if you shop around, but is this a bit too powerful for the model? As an alternative the SC 91FS is very cheap at £140 but how does it compare in quality/longevity. I'm not too worried about cost if the additional converts into improved performance/reliability/longevity. What other currently available FS engines would you choose? Modifications My intention is to make a couple of minor modifications to the kit: Use separate aileron servos Possibly use mini-servos to keep weight down Install the elevator servo in fuselage side exterior nearer tail Secure the top wing using bolts not bands If there are any other good mods out there, and if you have photos of your kit built Wots-wot please do post them. As the build gets going I'll keep progress updated here...   Edited By Scruffmeister on 06/02/2015 18:30:16
  6. Thanks Peter and everyone else. That's very good information... I'm going to give it a try with no filters in the model - I'll let you know if it goes badly wrong but sounds like this is a perfectly well understood mode of operation!
  7. I think the hybrid of one between the muffler and the tank (pressure line) is an interesting solution - as long as the fuel is filtered during filling this seems like a nicely closed system. Does anyone actually run in this mode? Any reasons why it's a bad idea? Edited By Scruffmeister on 20/06/2014 22:07:34
  8. Thanks all - I actually believe that no in model filter could be a good option. Couple questions: Couldn't particles from the muffler pressure line could enter the tank and then the carb if there is no filter? Do you use a normal (unfiltered) metal clunk in your tank, or is your clunk actually some kind of filter (felt, etc.)? Thanks!
  9. Thanks Adrian, but doing this will cause some fairly tight curve in the tube - so to the other part of my question, how tight a curve it OK for decent flow?
  10. I'm struggling with placing the fuel filter to my OS 55AX on my Wot4 Mk2 ATRF, the best I have come up with is shown in the picture below. Is this OK? The things concerning me are: How tight a corner can you safely make with the fuel feed to the carb?   Does it matter that the tube is being raised above the top of the tank (the filter being the highest point)? If anyone has any photos of "known good" installations I could see it would be very helpful. (I'm running a two-line system for simplicity as not planning on fitting the cowl) Thanks in advance.   Edited By Scruffmeister on 20/06/2014 21:16:38
  11. Thanks, I think I'll give to OS55AX a try on a 12x7 at 20% OptiFuel and we'll see how it goes :D Edited By Scruffmeister on 12/06/2014 08:40:44
  12. Anyone flying this model on an SC52A-S? If so, what's vertical performance like - unlimited? Same question for an OS 55AX? Any other suggestions for engines that fit/balance well, I've not bought anything yet but the SC is obviously a lot cheaper so erring toward that if performance roughly equivalent? I have a requirement for unlimited vertical flight (although obviously I plan to stop at some point!). Edited By Scruffmeister on 11/06/2014 12:00:06
  13. Anyone know what's going on with the 2014 Nationals? The website still shows the 2013 date, but says 140 odd days to go? http://www.bmfa-nats.org/
  14. Nice to see some bigger models on here! Ben is that a SebArt or ExtremeFlight? Mark - what airframe is that, love the scheme - assume it's a trad build?
  15. I have heard people fly models on Horsell Common in Surrey (and indeed there may be an informal club). I can't find any info on the web or a club website that works (wokingmodelflyers.org is broken if this was it). Does anyone know where on the Common flying takes place?
  16. Any idea where I can buy the "rubber grippy stuff" - it looks like a useful addition to my work surface?
  17. Hi Kev, great build thread - this is really helpful to a new builder like me! Can I ask who makes your very nice iron with a wooden handle (not the black plastic one also in shot)?
  18. Dave, thanks for the album on the Gangster. Really helpful to see! Has it flown yet?
  19. I checked the digital scales by zeroing them with an empty jug on, then adding exactly 500ml of water to the jug. Reading was almost exactly 500g so I'm happy enough they're accurate Edited By Scruffmeister on 27/12/2013 08:57:57
  20. I re-weighed the model - and found that the Silverline hanging scale I used is rather inaccurate! Here's the re-weigh of the mechanical scale vs the digital kitchen scales. I'm assuming here that the digital kitchen scales are the "correct" ones, especially as they tally with Dave's measurements above. Fuselage: 3.125Kg (Silverline), 2.12Kg (Digital) Wing: 1.350Kg (Silverline), 0.74Kg (Digital). Allowing about 0.380Kg for a full fuel tank, we have a flying weight of 3.24Kg which seems a lot more reasonable What is it they say, check, check and check again!?
