  1. I was wondering if anyone knows of a chart showing the different torque (or combined torque) required for different sizes/weights of models, all the way from small foamy to 50cc+. Obviously the perfect chart would cater for different flying styles (aerobatics vs 3D) and possibly different torque/speed requirements for different control surfaces. If such a resource doesn't already exist, I would like to start creating a resource like this, as I think it would be helpful, but need help from your experience to start populating it so please post your recommendations in the thread below. Thanks
  2. @Olly - it's a good point. So the question still stands over what I can do with these packs and another interesting airframe even if I combine them!
  3. I have a Wot 4 Foam-E and a large number of 2300mAh packs. As much as I love that plane, I'd like to have a second airframe to take to the patch that uses the same LiPos. In an ideal world it would be something like a small Extra or Edge - i.e. semi scale aerobatic, but I've not seen anything like that for this size of battery. Any suggestions for an ARTF or BNF model for this size of pack that would be a nice complement to a Wot 4? Cheers!
  4. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css); @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css); I bought one of these parallel charge leads from HK. Clipped all the batteries in, plugged into my charger (GT Power A6-40), set the current to 0.9A (6 x 0.15) ... and then found the lowest voltage my charger will supply is 2s (7.4V) but these are 1s batteries!    Is there a reason why a charger would be programmed like this? How is one supposed to make use of aforementioned lead?   Any help appreciated.Edited By Scruffmeister on 10/01/2012 20:26:49
  5. Cheers Tim, better to check that have a fire @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  6. I bought the following 2 x 2s adaptor from Robot Birds. It takes the balance plugs from 2x 2s batteries and presents them them to the charger as a Deans plug + 4s balance plug.   I just wanted to check my understanding of the wiring of this. If I want to charge 2x 400mAh 2s LiPos on this device at 1C, should I set he charger to 14.8v (4s) and the current to 0.4A?   Thanks! @import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  7. I prefer to voltage test my LiPos just before I fly, this has always been easy down to 2s via the JST/XH lead. However, the 1s cells with Micro JST plugs (see pic) obviously don't provide a balance lead.   Does anyone know who sells a Micro JST -> JST/XH lead so I can plug it into my existing tester? Any other solutions happily considered.   Cheers.     @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  8. Does anyone know the product name of the micro hook-and-loop type of Velcro used by Horizon Hobby to secure 1s LiPos to the side of their models?   Photo attached if it helps...
  9. I don't think this is a browser issue. I have observed this across a number of browsers over time... my guess is that the site has too much traffic for the server it is running on. Time for some capital investment @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  10. Got my E-Flite Extra 300 UMX today which uses a AR6400L Rx... sadly ailerons seem to be doing something odd - would appreciate any advice? With the setting neutral (D/R, diff, trims, mix etc) the right ail has a far greater travel that the left ail in the down direction. It's also a bit jittery, esp if I put a simple mix on the rud->ail. The other strange thing was that dual-rates only seemed to affect one aileron, not both - maybe something odd on the DX6i, but I tried in both dual/single ail modes but made no difference. Also it seems like for both ail the up travel is less than the down (but maybe this is mechanical diff and intentional in the build?) Any ideas/stupid things I might be missing. It feels like there might be an issue with the servo, but maybe there is something odd going on with the DX6i I don't know about? Edited By Scruffmeister on 07/12/2011 22:52:26
  11. What size servos are needed for this model? Everywhere I look it just says "four suitable servos"!   What sort of flight envelope is possible with the recommended motor (2820/05) and 3s LiPo - does it have unlimited vertical climb?   Thanks. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  12. Steve - that custom cable builder is the answer to all my prayers! Don't worry, all my leads are locked and dual batteries on separate circuits through the regulator to Rx for power so both leads would need to unlock and fail to lose control I've used the system for a while, just need new batteries for next season and finding them with the right connector was proving difficult...@import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  13. I'm looking for a 2s LiPo around 1800mAh with a Futaba plug. I need this plug-type as this is what feeds into my regulator (x2 batteries) and I don't want to mess around with that.   Is there an easy way to wire LiPos to Futaba plugs? I have crimping equipment etc. but am pretty worried about shorting the battery. Do you know anywhere I can buy these from ready made/any nice online shops that would wire the plug for me?   Cheers
  14. Thanks Andy, brass tubing will probably do it - good idea.@import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  15. Anyone know where I can buy a fuel nozzle (i.e. to connect fuel can to airplane) to fit 1/8" tubing? Been searching for ages, driving me mad @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  16. Thanks all, will try and straighten with steam before I cover as much as possible... and hopefully the covering will do the rest.
  17. I'm nearly ready to cover my Fusion Micro, but have noticed that the elevator has a slight warp. About 4mm at one tip when laid on a flat surface. He structure is built up from ply/balsa. What would you recommend is the best way to fix, or will Solarfilm pull it into shape if heated on flat surface anyway? Thanks.
  18. Hey Guys, Am trying to decide what model to "build" over winter. I'm looking for a 90 or even 120 sized ARTF model capable of the full aerobatics book and 3D (secondary requirement). Ideally looking for semi-scale so someone like an Extra, but this is not essential. Would like to hear any recommendations for airframe/engine combos that have worked for you. (Finally... I'd love to switch to petrol and the DLE20 looks tempting (as an alternative to a 1.20 glow). Has anyone had any luck with this motor in airframes of the size I'm looking for?) Cheers
  19. Thanks again - completely agree - this is only a small model Rx but I think I'll give it a try paired with my dx6i. I tend to fly using my Futaba 8FG on my large models...   Cheers! @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  20. Thanks Pete - certainly does. Are you happy enough with yours - anything I should be concerned about if I choose to go ahead with it?   http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=11965 @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  21. Hi All, Does anyone recognise the receiver in the picture? It was originally wrapped in black heat-shrink which I cut away hoping to find a model number to no avail. It came in a second hand foamie I purchased, but I'm not going to use it unless I can postively identify it... maybe the red aerial will help... anyone?   Cheers @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  22. @Lazygit - I use both of the above. I was thinking more in terms of reducing cutting injury from smaller plastic props, rather than blunt force protection. You're right, you can't have it all @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
