  1. ah.....found the thread steve, always good to see some pics where did you get the bigger wheels from ?
  2. thanks for the replies guys....all taken on board. steve Grigg's - can i PM you about the kit since you've built it.....please ? first question - are the 2 wings permanently stuck together with 30 min epoxy then ? then i attach the aileron servo ?  i've built lots of helis but this is my 1st plane......i'm kind of frightened to epoxy stuff together in case i make a mistake and then cannot undo it  steve
  3. hi all, i've just got my 1st ARTF kit (a Seagull Swift 40). the instructions say i need :  30 min epoxy5 min epoxy thick CA glue but nowhere in the assembly instructions does it tell me what to use where ?  is there any basic rules i need to follow ? all advice welcome.
  4. i got mine from Inwood models...next day delivery  its my first ARTF kit so i'm no expert but it all looks top quality to me.
  5. OK thanks guys. the kit looks good. super sturdy landing gear, solid construction of main frame etc. scuba
  6. hi all, i've just bought a Seagull Swift 40 Trainer :  5.5 - 6.2 pounds AUW63" wing span. i want to run it on electric. the instructions say : 35mm 830 rev per volt motor (what is 35mm a measure of ?) 10 x 7 prop50A ESC 4 cell 3200 mAh battery .  i need help choosing a motor.....i would like around 100 watts per pound so would i be right thinking an outrunner around 830KV that can produce around 600 watts with a 14.8V battery ?  am i close and where do you all buy your motors from in the UK ? whats a reliable make of motor......recommendations please ? the kit will take upto a 50mm motor.  steve
  7. thanks for all the links guys. all suitable noted. i took the model along to my LHS and he told me how he would fix it and sold me all i needed for £7.....not bad i though i just need to do it now
  8. thanks for all the advice guys. i will do as instructed  i like to understand what i'm doing so can you point me towards links on, for example : understanding electric RC plane flight....or things like that.  i'm seriously thinking of getting a Seagull Swift 40 Trainer 63" wing span. i want to chose motor, prop, esc, servo, battery for it but want to understand why i use what etc  many thanks steve
  9. the motor is definitely running clockwise when viewed from the front....do you think that's why the prop was on backwards (with the writing on the back) which i'm pretty sure it was when i looked at the prop before i took it off ? the 3 colour coded wires from ESC - motor are all matched too ??? shall i reverse the motor spin direction to anticlockwise by swapping the wires around ?  thanks for your advice on this by the way  steve
  10. right, so i put the writing facing outwards...got it my model is a seagull extra 300 and the motor runs clockwise. is it ok to buy the slow fly APC 10 x 3.8 prop then ? i didn't know if there was a APC 10 x 3.8 non slow fly ? steve
  11. hi guys, i'm trying to replace the prop i got on a 2nd hand model. on the back of the prop is written :  APC 10 x 3.8 when i google this to find a UK shop i keep getting the correct prop but is says 'slow fly'  can anyone explain this ? also what's 'pusher' or a 'tractor'  thankssteve
  12. ok thanks guys. any suggestions as to where i get get these from on line (UK) :  epoxy (which one)thin zap cyano irvine iron also - how can i get 2 pieces of balsa apart that are epoxy together ??? is there a solvent or the likes ? steve
  13. i'll get a photo on tonight  where can i buy balsa from  on line ?  any advice on working with it..... Edited By scuba steve on 28/07/2011 17:04:28
  14. ok so crashed by balsa extra 300 today   the front motor mount is smashed off. my LHS says i cannot get parts for Seagull....is this correct ?  apparently i need to fix it myself....i've never worked with balsa before so: where can i buy it from what do i stick it together with (? epoxy but so many types) and if 2 bits of balsa are stuck together....how do i get them apart (without a hammer) is there a solvent i can use ?  newbie questions i know but hope someone can help. thanks steve
  15. thanks for the advice   i've just bought a 2ndh hand seagull 300 extra from a BMFA member. he showed me how well the model could fly, then transferred all his DX8 settings onto my my DX6i....the i test flew it. What a lovely model and a decent guy....there are sure some good people in this hobby.  it has a 990kv motor, 40A ESC and a 10 x 3.8 prop. i can apparently get 8 mins per 2200 mAh 3S battery. only a watt meter would tell me what its pulling at full throttle.   steve
